Fun fact: in the original “Yub Nub” Ewok song, there is a single English line translation of the last line. As it’s hitting the crescendo and it’s all the characters in one shot, the lyric repeats and morphs from Ewok to English, saying “Celebrate with love.” It always felt nice that that phrase is the Rosetta Stone of the Ewok language :)

I grew up the town over from conan, and when (1993) I heard this kid from Brookline was taking over and would have host a late night show I was full in. I loved it. For those of us who saw the original trilogy in theaters (Yub Nub included), we absolutely detest the special editions from '97. 2006 dvd set has the original Theatrical version on the bonus disks. they were taken directly from the laser disks as the source material.

Yeah, but the OG DVDs are hard-matted, so they're not even 480p because most of that is made up of black widescreen bars. The full HD, fan-made Harmy Despecialized editions that Matt is talking about are the only sensible way to watch the orig trig these days.

The Ewok song ended with "Celebrate the Love" -- which made no sense... but my friends and I used to change the lyrics to "Time to break the law" and laugh. You don't need the "De-specialized" editions if you can find the limited edition metal tin that Best Buy had. I have it... it has 2 sides for each disc with one side that has the Special Edition in 5.1 surround sound with all the CGI from those, then the other side has the original (or close to it) versions of the films that are even pre-THX. The original A New Hope even has the original Dolby 2.0 stereo on it. The laser discs are the other way to get the older versions of the films, but they're not as high of quality as the limited DVD release.

I have that set. The DVDs with the theatrical versions were made from the 1993 master tapes that the laserdiscs were made from, so they're preserving both the films and what was on those laserdiscs. They're basically what you'd have if they'd released Star Wars on DVD in the late '90s when all the studios were rushing out DVD using their laserdisc masters that don't have the full resolution or sound quality of DVD. That's why people seek out bootleg high-definition and 4K restorations online.
