He torpedoed Lopez's ratings as a lead-in and screwed him out of a job. And no, it was not just the studio's decision. O'Brien could have taken the midnight slot instead (which he could have done at NBC as well). I never thought that Conan was a bad fit for The Tonight Show, I thought that the Tonight Show was a bad fit for Conan. By that time it had become boring, formulaic and constraining. I first came across this speech in 2019 shortly after I had given up the best job that I'd ever had to move to a new city & find a "better life" with my partner. Unfortunately, despite my hard work and best intentions, it turned into 4 years of hell and the "better life" that we both wanted never happened. However, an unforeseen opportunity to move away from there would later come along and we are on our way to that "better life" now. Moral of the story: Not everybody gets what they want out of life. But if you work hard and you're kind, amazing things can happen. Thank you for showing me that, Conan 🙏

Solid great dude. People can say things for the sake of saying them... but you really feel and know everything he said was meant with truth, heart and soul.

For the record, I'm not a Conan fan. I find him sort of annoying. However, I think his message to his audience and how, even though he could say whatever he wanted to considering the circumstances, he chose to still be respectful and kind, shows a lot of class and I respect him for that. Things turned out great for Conan afterwards with his success on TBS and I'm happy for that. Good for him!
