His channel and his life, if it bothers him it’s okay for him to counsel his fans so they can do better by him. My fav music KZbinrs just quit because their younger fans (and probably older too) started being uber negative about the smallest things and it got to them. Unless you are in their position and have their temperament then you may not truly understand how any comment can get to them. Just blocking doesn’t mean they can block out the fact they read it and it stung a bit. Now multiple those stings over time… I’m with Bricksie on this 100%. It’s needed. I read the comments and it’s really annoying for me too.

As someone who has over 11+ years experience on KZbin....please, take constructive criticism as it's meant, but remember that 99% of viewers don't have a clue how to run a channel, run a business, make an entertaining video etc etc. I get handfuls of negative comments DAILY, telling me what I've done wrong, picking apart my mistakes, complaining (of course I get a lot more good comments too). The YT block feature is great for the worst ones as they never know they are blocked and can still watch and comment, but it's hidden. Apart from that, move on from the type of comments that complain too much and do what you know is best. Hope that helps with some perspective, not meaning to be preachy about it! Does he also criticize channels that flip houses, cars, or go on luxury trips full time? It’s your job because you’re smart and hard working enough to have made it happen. Your response was well thought out and measured. I hope that parent watches it and realizes how short sighted they are in their criticism. I think you have a great mixture of building, education, buying and selling. I have learned a great deal from you and it has resulted in me (and my staff) building better houses for our customers. Now, instead of just houses, we build the house with the lot it is on...i.e., we added trees and grass and bushes. This has completely changed, in a positive way, how we finish each build. THIS is because of you! Thank you and it is still nice to see that influencers such as you read and speak to the emails you receive. Keep moving forward! I don't think the comment was made with bad intentions but out of genuine frustration with the channel contents, and it's good that Jordan addressed it. TBH, what he does on the channel can seem excessive and may portray the wrong picture. Jordan knows exactly what he's doing financially - and this in itself can inspire and help people - but only if he communicates it well, as he did in this video. He doesn't have to share his business model, but I think it can make his channel more valuable for the viewers.

I don't understand the monetization side of KZbin, but the 'Haul' videos leave a sour taste in my mouth. Ridiculous amount of money spent sprinkled with enthusiasm. Idea of buying TWO sets for parts just goes past my comprehension and budget. I get uncomfortable spending over $130 CAD on a set. But, the effort you make tweaking off the shelf sets admittedly I think is a hook I do like... I convinced myself if I got the 3-1 red fox set, I could get some other pieces and turn that fox in to a dog that matches mine at home, a cavalier king charles. I'm going to make that happen, and I think you've influenced my confidence that I could do it. One last thing... Oilers suck. 🙂

On spending, as long as its in your business budget or your personal family budget what you spend is a non-issue. You've built a successful business, part of how you do that is with buying products, so that you have the material to make the content that drives your business. What you are buying is not wasteful consumerism. It's part of doing business. Lego is also recyclable, sellable and giftable. It's not typically contributing to a landfill issue.

LEGO quoted in one of their year end reports a couple of years back that 108,000+ adults around the world run full time businesses solely from LEGO separate from the number of employees at LEGO so I don't think having so much loose and sealed LEGO is unique at all. Just because someone is not making KZbin videos doesn't mean they are not running successful LEGO business and are LEGO enthusiasts who own mountains of LEGO themselves. LEGO say around 40% of those adults got into LEGO business following their LEGO hobby. KZbin or other social media platform earnings supplements income faster to purchase larger amount of pieces, studios, equipment etc etc. But there are thousands of creators on multiple platforms so I don't think being a LEGO KZbinr is unique either, in fact and I say this as no disrespect to Bricksie but despite making more and more content Bricksie is receiving less and less views year on year. With a portfolio content from the past and continuing to make videos with views decreasing that is the biggest sign of all if the content is not what the viewers want. I don't defend what the gentlemen said at all however there is some truth in parts that viewership is declining and people may not take the time to comment but simply take the time to click other peoples content. I think the gentlemen's angle was more that when the channel started it was purely from a hobby perspective but now the buying, selling and essentially the commercial side of the content is the predominant part of the channel now, which turns some people off.

Jordan this is an incredible video. Thank you for sharing your journey and addressing comments like this in a thoughtful manner. When I started watching your content, I will admit that I had to take a break because I found myself getting jealous at your LEGO hauls and purchases. I think that I wasn't fully grasping the fact that this is your job. Like you said it is abnormal for an average person to have a collection such as yours. But part of why people tune into your channel is for all the latest and greatest from LEGO. We want to see you review sets and do hauls because it helps us determine if we're going to buy certain things for our own collections. I also want to say that your channel has inspired me to build outside just following the instructions. Seeing your techniques for building landscapes or even just transforming play sets into modular buildings for your city has inspired me to do similar things with the sets in my collection. All this to say, keep doing what you do. I'm always looking forward to the latest updates.

I would like to respond to Jordon's comments: 1. I am in America, things might be viewed in a different light if you re from another country. 2. I am old enough to be Jordon's grandmother given that my oldest grandchild is 30. Perhaps he and Mrs. Bricksie are a bit older but I suspect not by much. 3. I value anyone who has taken on the challenge of being self employed. 4. Not having a secured income from paycheck can be amazing in terms of you are your now boss, or horribly scary in terms of will I, and my family, have enough to survive the good and hard times financially? 5. The advice given on this specific video is spot on, and many young, middle age and even older individuals should take heed in putting away for the future. 6. At no time during this video did I hear Jordon state that all is a free and everyone should have what he has in terms of Lego. Good gosh wouldn't we all like to have all that is in the studio? Yet; in reality do we all have the ability to rent a studio, or build a home that has space for such and endeavor? I would so no. 7. Given the concept of the comment, and I do respect the person's right to comment in a respectful manner. It appears as if it is a case of wishing or trying to compete with the "Jone's". If one is not familiar with that concept it boils down to a bit of envy of what your neighbor has and you do not. 8. Jealousy is very ugly and I would truly hope that is not the hidden agenda of the person who wrote the comment. Teaching our children our values, yours may vary from others, is the most important part of being a parent. Teaching the child to understand money, that no it does not grow on trees, that one must save for a specific item, even if it is the $8.00 Lego. In closing about a month ago I was in my local Target browsing the Lego aisle. A young mom and her son were there as well. He wanted a set that was over his allowed budget. Mom stood firm and was not going too buy that set. I showed the young boy that with his budget and the sale he could buy 2 sets at his budget amount. Both sets were in the same theme, City and of police origin. He was not going too budge on what he wanted. I simply said well this is a big decision you only have so much money. He looked up and down the aisle. Meanwhile the mom turned to me and said thank you this is what I am trying to teach him. In the end I walked away and went to pay for my items. While I was checking out the young boy came up to me showing me his 2 sets instead of the big set. Well done young man, well done. So very sorry for the very long post. I did want to show full support for both sides, Bricksie and Jordon!

While Jordan seems like our buddy next store, he is not! He is running a business and part of that business is entertaining us. No part of entertainment or business entitles us to pick apart his business, life, motivations or morals. It is easy to feel so familiar with public personalities that we place them into our world but doing that will leave you disappointed, at some point. As for the creative side of that comment... I think the person is referring the fact that all building are Lego sets if not doubled, tripled... Pretty much teaching the kids that not only do you need to buy sets to build a Lego city, but you need multiple of them to get something as pretty as yours... I think that comment resonates for most Lego content creators that build their own cities, where the city is essentially just a big ad for modular sets instead of creativity...

Thank you, Sir, for sharing all of this. You went above and beyond to explain to someone who is not as lucky or resourceful as you are as a small business owner, husband, father, content creator, and Lego fan. The comments about being a fast food channel and builder are horrid. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. You create more content than just a LAN member posting the free stuff he gets from Lego. The time and energy this took to address was time away from family and other things you love.

Tbh I tend to agree the “MORE MORE MORE,” thing surrounding Lego creators. The content is super entertaining to watch, but you can’t lie. It’s hellllla dystopian. 😂 (but honestly, I’m participating in the consumerism as-well by watching it, so I’m not saying I’m morally superior). As far as that commenter’s criticism of your building style, that’s simply untrue. Art has always, and will always be subjective. Another point - pokemon KZbinrs are farrrrrrr worse with this. So don’t be too hard on yourself! it’s not like you are showcasing a scam. Also I kinda get the sentiment - it’s your money bro.

On balance I think the commentor Made some good points that was probably a collection of thoughts from multiple platforms that was unfortunately vomited out on your page. I also think you response and reflection was very well said and thoughtful. Overall, I took from this that viewers want relatable content which means that can to some degree imitate what they are inspired by, affordability is a huge component of that. But also viewers need to be aware that this is a career for the influencers and it requires them to invest heavily into bringing good content and entertainment, that may mean that they have to buy more and also that they have the means to buy more.

You hit the nail on the head in your explanation for buying so much LEGO. You buy a "wholesale" amount of LEGO to run your business (whether for your city related videos or selling), same as any company would buy wholesale products to sell as a part of their business. Anybody who thinks the amount of LEGO you buy should be seen as normal, or that you make it seem normal are simply clueless.

Millions of people watch and love your videos but a down side that is there will always be people that don't agree or like what you're doing. Sometimes you just got to let people have those opinions and not put too much stock in it. You know the kind of person you are and the kind of work you put out. It speaks for itself. Hi Bricksie, I hope you read THIS comment. I understand how it gets in your head, the comments, its the hardest part of your job. However, I have more to say. Youre channel isnt necessarily marketed as a "Watch me build lego" But a "Review lego sets, both old and new and add them to my collection" which I LOVE about your channel. That person was here to see otherwise, which there are other channels for. You do your job incredibly well, and you DO teach the youth GOOD stuff. You teach them to find something they love to do, and make something good come out of it. If anything you strongly teach the saying "If you do something you love, money will come on its own" which you do!! you buy lego and sell lego to buy more lego haha. You and your channel are amazing and transforming lives, truly. I love you, your family and your channel, and I hope you continue keeping hundreds of thousands if not millions entertained. Think about that. you may have 10 people disliking your content, but then you have us, the thousands who support you. Good luck in life Bricksie, we will be with you every step of the way

Mrs. Bricksie EXCELS at that, but that isn't the point of my comment. I'm only 9 minutes in and I feel like you gave entirely too much thought to that one person. I think this video was completely unnecessary. There are going to be people out that there that voice negative comments and statements on what you do and how you live your life based on the content you provide. However, you shouldn't have to go on a rant over it. If a content provider out there is doing things that I don't like, care for, or have any interest in, then its the viewers choice to not subscribe or view such content. I personally have no issues with how you live your life, how you spend your money, the amount of LEGO you own, etc. I think you are a very good content provider and wonderful human being. That being said, I myself have backed off looking at each post you make and have even unsubscribed (as is my choice) in that I no longer care to view these videos based on my life direction. That is my choice and the choice of anyone out there.

But I do offer this - I do think your “LEGO haul!!!” videos have gotten more frequent, and as much as I like watching you excitedly behold the PAB walls, I would also like to learn actual building techniques from you. Not just SEE what you’ve bought for the city, and then done to the city, but HOW you did it. I want to learn. 1. Wouldn't worry about the comments on your build style - every builder has their own style and I love to see variety in channels. Your building technique is great for seeing how lego sets can be integrated into a large city display, and sometimes with minor modifications. To your point, other channels spend crazy amounts to landscape and moc... Also watching you build you put a lot of time and effort into making the builds work, so definitely not "fast food" style! 2. You touched on it, but can't stress enough the process and time it takes to get where you are. People who start watching the channel may think it's an overnight thing... you've been at this for years! 3. Keep doing what you're doing and sharing your lego passion with us fans!

Hi Mr. Bricksie when I saw this video I just had to share my thoughts I have always been very passionate about Lego. When I discovered your KZbin channel a few years ago, I immediately fell in love with your content and everything you do. I've been following you since day one like many others, what this person have said is not true. Everyone's Lego journey should always be exactly how they like it and want it to be. I love your city and everything you've done with it, but you have also helped a lot of people. You've made videos showing people how to create things they wouldn't know, for example, like your videos on how to make mill plates Which I watched constantly to learn how to make them and I only learnt that from you which I thank you very much for that. I wouldn't have known without you. Don't let people get you down. That is just the internet for you. Without your videos being in my life? Life just would not be the same for me. You have a beautiful family and a great life. Don't let anyone get you down. You are the best in my opinion and always will be . Lots of love to you and your family. From Luke in the UK. I will always support you buddy

I love Lego too. Unfortunately I've come to realize that the accumulation of all the Lego pieces in the world is obscene. I have a certain amount of Lego for my grandchildren and I switch it around when they come to our place. It seems to work.

It's only obscene if we think about it in a negative way. People can be healthy with regard to Lego (and toys in general) if they appreciate what they have and don't allow their passions and enthusiasms to enslave them to the point of addiction and ruin. It's quite safe in comparison to some other hobbies and pastimes. It's been greatly therapeutic to some adults, particularly those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (including some war veterans).

One of the issues of your profession is that it opens you up to all types thoughts, points of view, and opinions . . . but with that you also get their jealously, fears, frustrations and what they believe you should do. I’ve been watching you for years, and I also started collecting Legos and of course we all can’t collect in the way and manner that you do but that’s part of the fun watching you. But never have I ever felt you have pushed buying Legos or pushed living and / or spending like you do. For you Lego is a business and most of your audience understands that. The fact that you buy and sell Lego the way you do is a business expense and again we understand that. Sure, once and awhile someone can go crazy and spend more than was needed but who doesn’t do that?? But honestly you never come off as buying unreasonably or without a plan or advocating doing that. Hang in there, keep doing what you’re doing and let people like this person you are talking about worry about their life. You haven’t done ANYTHING wrong or even slightly wrong. Lastly, it's not your job to teach someone's children financial responsibility and don't feel guilty for your success.

There is some valid truth to what that commenter had to say… You sensationalize the haul videos as spending way too much because you “went overboard” and “lost control”, when the reality is, you meticulously plan what you are going to buy, how much you need to spend, and how to make a profit from what you are buying in support of your business. Ultimately, your videos influence your viewers to seek out that dopamine rush and emulate the irresponsible “out of control” spending aspects. Unfortunately for the average viewer/kid, there is no profit or business value to be had from copying what you are doing in your haul videos. That’s the part that’s ethically questionable….
@alrinaleroux9229
@alrinaleroux9229 Күн бұрын
People (including children) need to develop and use their critical faculties and not blame others for their spending habits. Do we blame advertisers for advertising? Bricksie should be allowed to do his work the way he chooses to, without people keeping him responsible for their own lack of control. If people can't control themselves when it comes to toys, how will they react to negative peer pressure (drink and drugs and other vices)? This is a Lego channel. People who want to vent about "dangers" can choose more appropriate targets.
@mzpiggy
@mzpiggy Күн бұрын
Yes, for example, if a cigarette company purposefully uses cartoon characters and fruity flavors to market cigarettes, which in turn attracts young people to their products, I do pin a portion of the responsibility on advertisers. Lego is in part funding these mass consumerism videos to influence customers, it’s purposeful and solely aimed at profit making. I also agree that consumers and parents have the most responsibility over themselves, but it takes a community to raise generations of children. We should all do our part…. Are businesses free to conduct themselves as they see fit, for profit? Apparently so. If given a chance to do better, should they? I would hope so. It’s fine to say the channel is for adults and they want this content, so too bad, but the fact of the matter is, Legos are toys made primarily for children, and there’s no doubt that children are watching this channel. You can rationalize this any way you want, but even if he didn’t ask for it, Bricksie is a role model for them…

Your entire city is inspirational, and it does require a lot of hard work that we don't always see in ~20 minute videos. What I think is dangerous is some of the consumerism on whatnot where you have the show runners yelling at people hyping and hyping it up trying to drive sales. Versus your shows are more chill, interactive, and give insight into things. That is a great window into how you operate. Personally I'd love more detail into HOW you do things, like yesterday's video, a light more focus on the decision behind the awesome way you tilled off the market village road, As that was a unique technique that I haven't seen in many places. You do so much custom, that and document so much, its great. You almost need Mrs Bricksie to read the comments and filter them, as I know the internet can be hard on things like this, but I do think as you said its the effect of years of hard work.

Bricksie is both a man and a company. I watch daily just to make sure I can contribute to your building the city with my view so you can keep earning to keep building, and I enjoy your reviews too. You have a really wholesome channel and I am glad it exists because it helps me not to overbuy since your city helps me feel like I enjoyed some of the buildings I can’t have. I build because it’s part of my self-care, and collecting, sorting, looking at my sets, building and rebuilding, keeping a tracking, and playing…it’s all things that keep my mind busy and decompress, so this person probably doesn’t have this need or maybe they fulfill it with something else that is more affordable. I used to do origami before I got hand issues. Lego is easier on my hands and offers all the aforementioned activities. To each their own Bricksie, keep making the art. It inspires me to make my Harry Potter village. I don’t feel guilty at all that I use a small city to stay sane and have something to look forward to. It’s a great creative hobby. Chin up and maybe if negative comments get to you every once in a while send little reminders of keeping the comments respectful and kind. I think you can pin a comment like that when you upload your videos.
