I didn't realize a main feature of Venus was team play, which is something we will probably never do. Hopefully the individual additions were worth it.

Also a big fan of this expansion. If you like Concordia, and regularly have 4+ players in your groups this is a must have. The team play is really interesting. In the first print of this game there is a typo on a card where it says tuch (German for cloth) instead of cloth.

I love this expansion, it's one of my favorite expansions to ever come out from any board game. So good. If you've got an apha player they're the worst to be around anyway, in any game. I guess we've got a great group without pushy people. Team play is so much fun, and I think better than it sounds like in this description. But each group is so different I can see where someone could sour it.

Since you have the expansion, figured I'd ask you directly. Can Venus be combined with the Salsa expansion? I bought the "expansion" version of Venus, so i'm assuming I no longer need the cards from the base game?

Christofil Anciano yes, it works great with the salsa expansion. It’s the only way we’ve played it because we like it so much. I took the original cards and just bagged them but I haven’t needed them.

A question, can you play venus with 6 people and not co-op ?

@@MrLeanath yes. But you really shouldn't. This kind of game gets really long and boring once there are so many players. One of the good things about the team game is that it speeds things up a lot. Not necessary with 4 players, but very necessary with 6.

A buddy of mine has Concordia and I've played it 3 times. It's one of those game where I feel I don't understand half of what is happening. There's so many choices and so many ways to score points I rarely know if I'm making the best choice of moves or not, particularly when I lay out a plan and the player before me interferes and ruins the plan. I like it but don't know if I'll ever get good at it. '

Concordia is one of my favorite games but I don't think that I am interested enough to purchase this expansion. I might give it a try when it is around...

I am almost tempted to buy Venus just for the bigger box to fit all my maps and components. I literally have zero interest in the expansion but the box is big and says Concordia on it. Is that worth 70 euros? Hmm....

I have the expansion, but still did not play it. Condordia is one of my favorites. I was wondering, after your comments on team play communication (alpha team member syndrome), if there could be a house rule that the player with the most point in the winning team wins the game alone. You would want your team to win (to be elligible to victory), but still be in a competitive mood with your partner and sometimes prefer to stick to your plan instead of helping him too often.

If you'd just use the new Venus cards, probably not. But it also provides 2 new maps, plus pieces for a 6th player. Personally, it's still a weak proposition. I think I'll get nearly all other expansions first. But who knows; maybe team play is surprisingly good and when the day comes that I finally try it I'll be sorry I avoided it.

Team play does not appeal to me at all. Does this expansion have anything worth it outside of an game variant?

It has: 1. new maps. 2. a new type of action card I guess, with a new god for end game scoring (Venus). This also impacts individual play, you get 2 victory points for each province where you built at least 2 houses. 3. an alternative card display for purchasing the new cards: you can cover the base card display. It changes the cost of the cards: in the base the additional costs are always "?" resources and/or cloth. With the new display you can purchase some cards for "?", cloth and/or wine!

No, previous responder is wrong. There's individual play (2-6p, every man for himself) and team play (4p and 6p in teams of 2). There is no official solo mode for 1 player. Tom mistakenly referred to individual play as solo mode, but that's a very different thing and it's not included in the game. There are some decent variants available on BGG though.
