There is no slavery in Islam- only prisoners. There is no ransom in Islam- only bail. One thousand four hundred and fifty years ago, when Islam came on the scene, it nullified and negated the concept of slavery. No ruler or progenitor was allowed to treat his subjects or offspring as his slaves. Every individual was bestowed with well-defined rights; the ruler and the ruled, the progenitor and the offspring had to live within the limits prescribed by religion; no one could transgress those limits. Islam was the first religion to name every man and woman equal in the sight of God. Everyone was born free. There was no slavery system in Islam until pagans started taking Muslims as slaves- those Muslims who were not protected by powerful tribes were captured and sold to enemies who killed, tortured and persecuted them mercilessly.

islamic writers or scholars claim that these non muslim women prisoners of war were distributed among the muslim soldiers for their safety or to save their lives or to provide for their sustenance. so it is humanity. but their claim is completely false and unreasonable. because if you see those authentic hadiths, you will understand that they avoid the main points by making tricks. reasons firstly, Azl (birth control method) is applied to these women according to the hadith, so that they can not become mothers of children. because if the child is born, she can not be sold or ransomed by returning her to her family. at the same time, companions used to have intercourse with them and perform Azl (birth control). So that they can be sold to another person or to their family to collect ransom after used. what kind of morality it of religion. i tried to explain the hadiths in brief. secondly, if it is for the safety of women prisoners of war then why are they separated from their husbands after being captured. according to shafi'i and maliki law their marriage will be dissolved. because it is in authentic hadith. (very clear here for the purpose of distinction). opinion first of all, now think if someone wants to capture your sister and release her with a ransom. secondly dy doing azl(birth control) if sold to another person after intercourse. thus she is repeatedly sold to different men (after the end of a certain period). now think how much the repeated selling can add to the emotional pain of a woman. physical pain is more terrible. thirdly, her right to be a mother has been destroyed by(azl) birth control. If that seems fair to you. then there is nothing more to say. injustice has been done here...with these hadiths later the Imams of for school(Madhhab)made laws..as a result of which this tyranny continues till the ottoman period. allah is fully responsible for this. allah could have provided them with permanent security during the time of the companions if he willed.

But it is not true translation. ıts word for word translation is;"the person(female) who has got your words(oaths)" It means;The person you employ for a certain fee or commitment.

First of all, there is no evidence that they were being tortured (CNN, BBC or any other kafir sources do not count). Secondly, the basic rule in legal rulings is that everything is halal unless proven otherwise. Not the other way around where I have to search up evidence for it being halal. In fact, there's a well-known Hadith that says something like "do not hit you wife in a manner that you would hit your slave". Also, why would u refer to the person u discussed with as a Muslim in parentheses? Are u takfiring them just for making such a statement? May Allah truly guide us aameen.

God allowed Muslims to take captives only in wars-and that too under complex rules which included that prisoners of war must be treated gently, and must be fed the same foods his captors ate, must be clothed in the same fabric, and lodged in a similar housing. And it drastically restricted war, by allowing enslavement only in a war fought against unbelieving and unjust enemy. In no other way could anyone be enslaved. At the same time, Islam raised the status of slavery to that of a free man; and opened many ways for their emancipation. In Islam, no one was permitted to have sexual relations with their slaves. However, in countries throughout Europe, North America and Australia, it was a commonplace occurrence and also sanctioned by government laws to sexually assault their slaves, especially the women, which was practiced in a mass scale and completely legal until a few decades ago.

@@jennydbeme it is said that Maria the Coptic was a concubine of the Christian king of Alexandria in Egypt, and was sent among other gifts to Prophet Muhammad pbuh, as a reply to Prophet Muhammad's pbuh letter calling the king to Islam. Prophet Muhammad put her among the status of his wives, she beared for him his son Ibrahim who died around the age of two, prophet Muhammad was heartbroken but practiced patience for the sake of Allah!!! He treated Mariah so dearly that some of his wives were said to be jealous of, anyway Allah knows best, and we have to follow the example of our prophet in any situation that others might not agree with, as we should never say that we know or could be more passionate or just than Allah and the prophet!!!

Abu Said said, "We went with Allah's Apostle, in the Ghazwa of Barli Al-Mustaliq and we captured some of the 'Arabs as captives, and the long separation from our wives was pressing us hard and we wanted to practice coitus interruptus. We asked Allah's Apostle (whether it was permissible). He said, "It is better for you not to do so. No soul, (that which Allah has) destined to exist, up to the Day of Resurrection, but will definitely come, into existence." (Book #46, Hadith #718)

salaams Jimmy. I am no scholar but have recently been reading and thinking of this and just wanted to offer some advise in case I may get some reward from Allah. Unfortunately when the prophet hits the ground 1400 years ago, slavery is rampant in the society (worldwide actually) along with other major problems like alcohol. Getting rid of slavery and alcohol occured in stepwise fashion. If you try to ban such things over night without convincing people of the reasonings, you drive those practises further into darkness where it occurs with even less regulation as we saw with prohibition in the USA which led to alcohol that blinded people due to inability to find correct ingredients. If slavery had been banned in one night we would've had human trafficking and people doing more to hide their slaves. How would you get rid of it? The muslim approach is to slow down getting new slaves,such as conquering towns and turning everyone into slaves being prohibited, and incentivizing freeing slaves. For example if you break an oath, you have to free a slave. If you have sex while fasting, you have to free a slave. Many sins require freeing a slave. Also it is important that if slavery exists in a society running islamic law, there should be rules for it. America had no rules so slaves had no rights. America had no problem going to Africa and turning people into slaves for no reason, but that is not allowed. Eventually even the prophet's wife Aisha said it was difficult to find a slave to free! Anywhere that islam is practised eventually you will dry up the slave class. Today human trafficking for sex and sweat shops in China are modern slavery and there is no way out and no rights. In islam a slave had to eat from your food and dress from your clothes and they could make a contract with their owner to buy their freedom. Unfortunately enslaving people is something humans do and it is better to have to rules than not to limit suffering. I hope this helps.

And what human rights has been denied to the lgbt community, when did sodomy become a human right, you would not be here if your parents practised sodomy. The existence of the community is based on people who did not practice sodomy. i am sure you love animals too, when is the wedding mate or would you deny them their rights.

@@darksheikh because ulema always justify what was done in the past. I watch videos of concubinage and huri (spouses) in jannah and they give examples of verses in Quran, thus justifying this way. As a woman, it is hard to understand why would islam allow slave women to be used as an object while men also have wifes. And since most ulema are men, they belittle our concerns as women and they sey "do you question Allah's orders? That is what he ordered so stop whining" These topics cause lots of women to question islam unfortunately.

Me and my friend actually have been trying to find answers for 3 years but everyone says the same things they don't understand our question exactly. If I can't find the answer I will stop searching and try to forget it. I will do as the ulema say. Not because they say it but because Allah is the most just, most merciful and I trust Allah's judgement. Bu ı fear for my friend because she can't just forget it she keeps thinking about this.

@@rumeysa4686 you have problems with this because you are comparing the times we are living in with those times. The situations and environments and the attitude of people are very different from now. They perceived things in other way. I'll give you an example. Many people in the West would say that hitting a child is abuse. People who have been never hit would get shocked by witnessing someone being hit. I have been hit by parents, but also teachers in the mosque. But I don't consider it to be abuse necesserily. As a matter a fact the teacher who impressed me the most in a positive way was a teacher who taught me religion in the mosque. And not the teachers in public school who didn't hit. I consider this teacher one of the kindest teachers I had in my life even when he has hit me several times because i didn't learn my homework well. I knew he didn't to abuse but to motivate us to do our best. Things you would think is abuse will be experienced in a different way by people who are used too certain things in life. It is all about how people treat each other and what the intentions are of a person who has power over another person.

Hello Paul and Justin. Thank you both for this excellent information and very usefull for my study. A very very important topic. I have been searching for something similar on youtube for a while. Highly appreciated. Could you please shed light too on the so called Barbary "slave trade" which basically were prisoners of war (and not chattel slavery) and send back after ransom was paid. Back and forth people were captured in the mediterranean region, incl Balkan muslims by Italian Catholics. Somehow this is (still) being abused as "evidence", using orientalist art most of the time to back this up. Basically a projection of their own shortcomings. I really hope you could make time for this too.

According to that argument, the North African Muslims did not send slaving expeditions north to Europe with the specific intent to capture and sell slaves. And according to that argument, the states of North Africa were in a state of war with Iceland. So they had a legitimate reason to capture Icelandic civilians and sell them in their slave markets. That argument is on thin ice.

One who makes a covenant in My Name, but he proves treacherous. 2. One who sells a free person (as a slave) and eats the price, 3. And one who employs a laborer and gets the full work done by him but does not pay him his wages.' This was a breath of fresh air. I had been seeing so many comments and posts by muslims arguing for slavery and insisting there is nothing islamically, ethically wrong with it but rather only those with liberal values would be against it. It was so painful to think that there are muslims advocating for such oppression in the name of the prophet and God instead of seeing that the prophet pbuh established an ethical trajectory towards abolishment of slavery.

It is morally good in the context of war, it wouldn't be abolished permanently as a war could happen, but why you found it painful wasn't because you have some moral truth in you, but its literally because as is done in every damn culture and century, the dominant ethic has conditioned you into its made up commitments, and so your intuition is tailored with what is indicated to me to have the disgusts and acceptance of a liberal, so what makes some right or wrong is linked to those false values, this is like when a racist Muslim suffers doubts because the dominant ethic at his time commands that blacks should be treated under whites but the Quran and Sunnah say otherwise so he gets disturbed and seeks a justification that suits his racist values and becomes relieved when anything shows a sign interptable to that, I shouldn't be so harsh, but I'm sick of Muslims not doubting these diseased ideas that they are so readily ideaolgically molested into submission, just ask yourself this, why is non consensual harm wrong, why is undesirability wrong, where am I getting these ideas of right and wrong, does it necessitate that just because something has no harm its good or because some country is tech savvy its morally better than those without or that a country with more wealth is more moral, why, I reject this all and I find it all irrelevant to moral judgement rather I want my disgusts and acceptance tailored to Islam and I want to get angry when someone mischarterises Islam, but I find most Muslims are just relieved that Islam can fit into liberalism and are only angry at those who object to that, isn't that pathetic

many people who are poorly versed in matters of Quran often cite a verses of the Quran to justify their false belief that unwed relationships with slaves is permitted in Islam. This assumption is unwarranted and completely baseless. Not a single verse in Quran mentions that unwed relationships with anyone, be they be free men or free women, prisoner men or prisoner women, is remotely permitted. The word “amah” which means female slave or the word “’abd” which means male slaves are not mentioned anywhere in the Quran as to legalize sexual reations with them. However, the word “malakat aimanukum” mentioned in several verses alongside the phrase “azwaaj” which means wife, according to some scholars the word “malakat aimanukum” meant “the female prisoners among your wives”. This verse was emphasizing the point that in order to marry a free woman, a man had to pay a certain amount of dowry to make sexual relation permissible with her, but in case of female prisoners, upon marriage and consummation of the union which could be ascertained with the birth of a child, the prisoner was pronounced to be free, and hence emancipation was considered the dowry and monetary gifts were not required. Marriage was freedom and freedom was dowry (in case of female prisoners).

A dowry payment is to be given according to what is acceptable (وَآتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ) How did the Prophet SAW marry Safia RA and Juwayriyah RA, who were captives of war following a war between the Muslims and their tribe? The most reliable accounts states that Safia RA became a Muslim and the Prophet freed her and married her with the knowledge of her tribe. Safia RA had great love of the Prophet and became a devout Muslima. In the case of Juwayriyah, she accepted to marry the Prophet and also became a believer. Following her marriage and conversion all her tribe were freed. The practice of engaging in sexual relations with a slave without a marriage contract is NOT mentioned in the Quran nor is buying and selling slaves, other than when Yusuf AS was sold into slavery ( a practice of ancient times that Muslims unfortunately inherited).

This is incorrect. One doesn’t need to marry his slave in order to have intercourse with them. This s clearly established in the Quran and in the Sunnah. If one wants to marry a slave, first the slave must be freed and then the marriage contract can be done. *A wife can't be a slave* . Also, *no muslim can be taken as a slave* . If they accept Islam, that doesn't mean they are free, but the Prophet ﷺ didn't wage war on other Muslims since *they were the main group of Muslims* besides the Sahaba the Prophet ﷺ sent to do Dawah. It seems like you missed these verses and ahadith: وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ [٧٠:٢٩] 29) And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَ‌ٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ [٧٠:٣٠] 30) Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed," The Sahaba used to have intercourse with new captives after battle. They were not Muslim, they were the enemy and as stated, free muslims can't be taken as slaves nor fought unless in certain conditions. Here is a good hadith: sunnah.com/urn/512590 Abu Said al-Khudri said, 'We went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on the expedition to the Banu al-Mustaliq. *We took some Arabs prisoner, and we desired the women as celibacy was hard for us. We said, 'Shall we practise coitus interruptus while the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is among us before we ask him?' We asked him about that and he said, 'You don't have to not do it. There is no self which is to come into existence up to the Day of Rising but that it will come into existence.' "

Also the hadith you quoted is one small part of the story. Banu Mustaliq were captured by Sahaba BUT Prophet SAW married Juwayirah and freed all her tribesman. What they wanted to do was not what happened and they freed all of the woman. Also final point, right hand possession is not a free right to have relations. The Quran says that woman also have right hand possession. It means to work as a servant for a period of time until they are released. I hope that is clear brother.

Otherwise, he is to be punished (i.e., if there is no proof that the hadd punishment for zina may be carried out against him because he does not confess, and there are not four witnesses, then the judge may punish him and stipulate a punishment that will deter him and others like him). So to summarize: Islam came during a time when slavery was common (in a form different than what we associate with the slavery in the US that was based on abuse and racism) and when Islam came it's one of the things it came to reform and phased out by encouraging freeing slaves to earn a reward or to give them their freedom and facilitate their freedom over a period of time. In addition, no avenue for getting new slaves was available, so eventually slavery would be phased out of a society and economy completely without causing too much economic trouble for anyone evolved by forcing immediate changes on anyone. And then there's the treatment of slaves vs freemen: all were to be treated equally and none should be overburned and slaves were supposed to dress in the same way as the freemen and eat the same food they ate. I think it's a very ethical way of dealing with a problem that's already there. Just because a religion mentions a thing you dislike doesn't mean it came and introduced it, sometimes it addresses a scenario that you might not be unfamiliar with but has happened in the past and might happen again the future. God is all-knowing, He teaches us how to deal with problems we encounter. Those who are critical of Islam were yet again projecting their own history onto a different tradition.

True. It might be because slavery is part of human life in one or another. For example, in WW1 German women turned to prostitution to support themselves because so many of their men died. They would have been taken as slaves in the pre-industrial era. So which one would be preferable? Not only for women but for society as a whole? There's also debt slavery. Sometimes I think of how Western govt legalised prostitution in order to protect the prostitutes from abuse. Right now the world has millions of modern slaves in terms of debt and labor. So will govts legalise slavery in order to protect the rights of these slaves? I don't know. I mean Islam has a full fledged system of laws and rules regarding slavery but the West never did which lead to chattel slavery.

Abolishing slavery uses at that time is the same thing that abolishing gasoline uses today. It is in some ways harmful, but is it was a necessity and strongly implemented in the international global trade and economy. We can't abolish gasoline right away, but we can find, explore and install limits and rights for decreasing the harm of it. Same thing with slavery back then. The prophet Muhammad is like an activist for ecology today, but applied to slavery. You should remember that the first Muslims, the first people that followed Muhammad (sws) was the poorest people of Mecca including a lot of slaves. As matter of fact, one reproach that the authorities Pagan of Mecca addressed to Muhammad (sws) is the fact that he urged slaves to stand up against their harsh conditions. Slaves who became muslims also became less obedient to their tyrannical masters.

She suddenly start to put restictions like putting forth hadith about: if the woman does not like the sex,she cannot be forced for sexual intercourse. Or putting cloths between the two bodies with a hole for the sexual intercourse. By the way,i am empath and not a narcissist. I must say that your understanding of slavery and Islam is some how compatible with human rights which is great, the only thing that I hope you did is that it would have been better to base your understanding and opinion on factual Islamic laws and teachings and giving examples from how prophet Muhammad pbuh implemented these teachings! Matter of fact, slavery wasn't encouraged to be abolished, actually the way slavery was abolished in KSA and Egypt is quite an example that it was done based on secular understanding rather than religious understanding and Al-Azhar opposed that abolition strongly.. what I heard from you that in Islam slaves are better treated than in other religions but .. they're still slaves brother! And the hadith you referred to that there's no difference between an Arab or a foreigner except for who more pious, etc, yeah right .. but that's before Allah, amongst people there's a master or the owner of the slave and there's the slave and they're definitely not equal .. The problem with historical discourses and modern times is that often in applying the historical discourse to modern times we don't take into consideration an understanding of both historical and modern societies. We need to look at concubinage in the broader historical contexts in which it was practiced outside of a merely legal framework and understand why it existed and what function it served. IF we understand that we will realize that concubinage never seized to exist and that the historical ascription of concubinage with slavery was incidental to a certain period and region but was by no means the standard or norm globally and even within Arabia. Many of the Abassid Caliphs had concubines instead of wives, and the concubine was by all reports as equally royal as any wife would be, with the exception of a few rights given to wives. In fact, until this day scholar until this day scholars are unsure as to whether the wives of the Prophet were all wives or if some of them were concubines. Also, the problem with modern scholarship on Islam is often that they don't view the law as scaffolded. Islamic Jurisprudence evolved over several centuries, whereas the base laws are founded in the Qur'an. If one wants a nuanced understand there must first be a critical reading of Quranic law on its own, then a reading of how the Ahaadith are used to interpret such laws, and then how the jurists engaged with the evidences to evolve their science relative to the times they lived in. That does not happen. If you engage in an exercise like that you will see that the concubine had half the punishment for adultery than the free believing woman, and that the concubine was allowed to be taken as wives absent the amount of wealth needed to wed free believing women. When you follow the arguments around the topic of the Qur'an a few things become clear: 1) A concubine didn't have to be a slave (because the terminology for slaves and concubines are different) 2) A concubine was considered to be a class below the free believing women. 3) Wedding a concubine (literally to have sex with her- Nikah) was not preferable but was exceptional. 4) A concubine was not held up to the same moral standards as the free believing women. IF you put these together you will realize that the concubine was actually a woman from outside the patriarchal societal construct (which is a precursor for modesty) and who given her lack of understanding the culture of the believers and the incidence of circumstance (having to work with men in the fields and what not) was more likely to stray and hence had more leniency on her. And also, given the frequency with which men slept with women of their households (that were not their wives), the Qur'an makes the concession that doing so consensually was to be seen as permissible, but nevertheless frowned on (again because the issue of proximity/ relaxed dress codes, and the possibility of that happening.) When we apply this to the modern context, it's not unlike what happens in most societies today.

I think it actually makes a more damning case for Islam if, as you suggest, you do to go back to the origins and original intention under Islam. The Hadith talk about soldiers being turned on and wanting s3x with captives and permissions to pull out early to avoid pregnancy. These incidents informed Islamic law. And yes slav3s were not punished the same way due to their lesser status and agency. But I don’t see how this is a huge concession. You say a slav3 concubinage was outside the patriarchal society. How? Her duty is to give s3x to a man who owns her as property. You can’t get more patriarchal than that. Speaking of dress codes, there are also reports about sl@ve women being punished for covering their bodies like believing women. You say it’s not unlike today but it couldn’t be further from today if you tried.

First, the Qur'an doesn't allow for forced sex (rape), and condemns it in strong terms (24:33) arguing that even when marrying the concubine it must be consensually done. I did not argue that concubinage was outside of patriarchal norms, I merely stated that a concubine was a woman who didn't understand necessarily what it meant to be a 'wife' within patriarchal norms and hence couldn't be punished in the same way. Women were identified by dress code, and it would be conceivable that a slave was not to dress like a free woman. Again we are conflating slavery with concubinage but there were also many societies in which concubinage had nothing to do with slavery. Economic structures changed in this time. Could you call a person who lives hand to mouth and has a job a wage slave? There's a lot that should be looked at. I can't imagine that all the many times the Quran talks about "what your right hand possesses" could simply no longer apply. I also don't really believe slavery is non existent. I think we also have a different understanding of slavery today than what they had originally envisioned by allocating rights to slaves. It appears to me that society naturally evolves classes of people, and one class that exists would always be the slave class, whether we call them slaves or not. If the Qur'an is read through the lens of what naturally occurs amongst humans a lot of it would be understood.

@@ninjadebruyns8577 Just to be clear, I am discussing slavery within Islam and I acknowledge that we have the concept of slavery and within this concept of slavery in Islam, there is also concubinage. I am discussing the issue islamic concubinage here. I also agree that rape is forbidden in Islam and yet female slaves did not consent to sex with their owners. Clearly this is also rape, yet Islam did not classify it as such. I do you get your point that the working poor could be classified as “wage slaves”, and could benefit from compassionate treatment. However, unfortunately this argument is often raised by Muslims who would like to whitewash the horrors of slavery. Really slavery is about the ownership of a human being as property. They are there to buy and sell with no human agency of their own. For some women in this position, this extended even to having no agency over her own body and who she has sex with, even whether she can become a mother or a wife. That’s far more than just wage slavery. The point is that that it’s better stamp it out with better human rights and opportunities not just better rules on how to on exploit people.

@@wanderingstar5270 I understand and I agree that slavery has a terrible history. Yes, men weren't always held to account because it was taken for granted that a man could sleep with his slave. How is consent anyway determined? Humour me if you will for a minute ok? Would you not say that the minute the Quran gave slaves rights that it was no longer 'slavery' proper. It doesn't make sense for the owned to have rights over the owner. One would imagine that the owned shouldn't have any rights. I decry the notion of sex slavery to begin with and I personally do not believe there is any place for non consensual sex in Islam. However, I can acknowledge that a person without agency may feel 'forced' to have sex with their master and simply see it as part of the 'job.' This is where sex with slaves to begin with becomes problematic. How is consent really established if someone doesn't have rights to begin with? Hence, I see the Qur'an actually doesn't encourage concubinage or sex with slaves, and asks that men rather restrain themselves than do that. In my reading of the text, it is evidence that sex slavery was not on the cards. Rather, it was more or less along the lines of a man having an affair with the woman working in his house and that being reluctantly accepted as legitimate in the event it happened because it was not the same as debauchery (which is forbidden). In the case of the 'affair' it would have involved flirtation and feelings, and so it could never have been classified as rape.

Nor can she refuse sex within that slave / master arrangement. I think you might want to look at what happened at the time of Muhammad and in the early days of Islam to see that slaves did perform sexual duties for their owners and it was not these love affairs. We don’t have unfettered rights in societies. I can own a dog but I don’t have the right to beat my dog. That doesn’t mean my dog has rights over me. It just that my right to own a dog comes with a set of responsibilities. It’s the same with slavery.

I think Ali ibn abi talib (ra) or one of his early descendants had a Persian concubine and I always assumed she was Zoroastrian. Also in the battle of Awtas weren't the prisoners of war pagan and not kitabi?

Would like more clarity on Concubines: I thought this is haram because in the Western meaning of the word this is like , 'living together' without marriage, so it is like, 'fornication' which is forbidden. So are we sure that these verses have not been misinterpretated ? I think Islam expects the marriage but the name of 'concunine' remained stuck inorder to distinguish the 'Prisoners of War' people from ordinary source.

The thing that handicaps us mentally as Muslims is that we presuppose that the derived laws are the laws of God, when clearly they are not. Now, the derived laws are of course useful and relevant in that it informs us about the historical engagement with the legal tradition and the way in which they sought to regulate their societies. However, not unlike modern legislation that is made and renewed constantly, that was true for Islamic law in the past as well and if you look closely in many Muslim countries is still true today. At one point the predominant view one Muslim country was that a woman needed her guardian to marry, but when so many guardians prohibit their daughters from every getting married and it resulted in a crisis in which most people are single, they tried to circumvent that an adopt a different legal opinion in which they then said that adult Muslim women don't require a guardian to get married. These things are dynamic and relative and we seldom see it that way.

I have read Muhammad al Jibali’s books before. I have a question regarding the “the right hand possess” of a war captive woman. A married Muslim man is allowed to “own” this captive woman and have sex with her. This seems to contradict how strict Islam is with Zinna/sex outside of marriage. Would a married Muslim woman be able to have sex with a war captive man she owns? If she cannot, this does not seem fair or logical- this seems like a double standard. Please explain this matter.

I think that this matter should be revised. Because it seems that the Quran indicates that u can't have sex.with a melek yamen unless u have a contract with her A marriage like contract. So if thats the case this would solve ur objection which I found very logical and I asked it to myself previously.
