I have several Condor knives and I have no complaints, I like the leather sheath they make. I love convex grinds, the best way to sharpen a convex grind is with a Work Sharp Ken Onion with the belt grinder attachment. If I can do it, anyone can

@@winneves unfortunately I never had anyone to tech me how to properly sharpen a knife by hand, I have tried to learn by watching videos but I really need someone to show me. Also I was paralyzed in my 20's (43 now), I did regain the use of my arms and legs through years or physical therapy, but I lost feeling in my thumb pointer and middle fingers. That makes holding an angle difficult, but not impossible.
@winneves3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that, but the Puck is fairly easy to as it is a about 3 inches round and you just kind of go in a circular motion along the curvature of the edge but that would be for chips or dings in the edge, for just a simple sharpening to bring back the fine edge I would use a leather belt strop since it will give in the middle and curve to match the convex.

I figured out that I needed a watch when I last went camping. I used to think that having a watch was pretty dumb because “I have my phone” but I was so damn wrong about that. Of course my phone was dead while camping and the whole time it would have been helpful to have a watch like this one to tell the exact time and play around with all the other features. Yeah just give it a 20° microbevel. The convex grind will help it go through wood. I had a couple blackjack convex knives. Not cheap. Model 12 & 14. The edge was extremely susceptible to damage and rolling. I also don’t agree with how they’re made. They’re convex ground after heat treat. They get them smoking hot on the belt grinder then dunk them in water repeatedly which isn’t doing the heat treat any favors. They should grind first then heat treat. I cut a trash bag with recycling in it very gently and lightly bumped a glass jar. A large portion of the edge broke like the blade was made of glass. I’ve beat on buck knives like I was trying to break them and they just beg for more. Buck large nighthawk is as wicked as they come.

I got two of those EAA witness pistols. The sharp un-scalloped edges on the front of the slide have destroyed many good pairs of pants. They are also extinct now. Not my pistols. I still have those but, good luck finding anymore nowadays. I also hate serrations on my knives. I've tried to argue how stupid they are to people but, I don't bother anymore. When gun/knife store people try to ask why I want the version without serrations I just say "because I do". I usually have to order that version online because stores won't ever carry the non serrated one. They don't look cool enough to sit on the display case. Serrations exit to sell overpriced knives to gullible guys who think they look cool.

A knife is meant to cut things, and chop and light wood splitting. As long as it does the job, whats the big deal. Condor knives are well made and wont set you back a paycheck. I do not understand people who blow 200+ dollars on a knife, and then hardly use it because they dont want to mess it up. What good is it then. Condor makes good inexpensive knives, they have great warranty service. I own five Condor knives. My newest is the Mini Hudson Bay knife. I also have the regular Hudson Bay knife, a very nice set. I've never understood people who want "Special" knives, and I guess I never will.

I had to put both rings behind the turret housings to get my PA scope eye relief correct on a Yugo with Master Mount.
@TacticalDoodle3 жыл бұрын
Is that a fun build? I have a desire to slap one of our yugo's into a modern version of the ZF41 optic, if it can look reminiscent.
@FunkyPertwee3 жыл бұрын
I just finished my Yugo optics projects and haven't zeroed them yet so I can't comment on accuracy, but I can say that the master mount, PA 1-6x24mm FFP Raptor, and the original Yugo-style wood furniture all play very well together, and definitely feel "modern classic", which is what I was planning for these years ago. I'm using two PA brand medium height "tactical" rings mounted on the forwardmost portion of the rail on the master mount. The rings sit side-by-side between the ocular lens and the turret housing. I have no idea how people are achieving proper eye relief with it mounted further back. I'm hoping to snag a knock-off gopro or two before taking them out so I can make a little video series about Yugo optics, since I waited so many years to make this project a reality.

Convex grinds must be stropped on a loose cloth or leather which means you can't jack them up and expect to be able to being them back. They are high maintenance and low longevity edges, but for certain bushcraft tasks they are amazing, especially feathering.
