After many years of requests I finally researched and purchased with donation money a night vision option that I would equip my own weapons with: the ATN X Sight 4K Pro. You I have avoided see most traditional night vision scopes due to their high cost, heft, and bulk. The ATN 4k will still add weight and complexity but as you'll see it's manageable. Battery performance is outstanding in these models, even in cold weather.
Note this is not a scope even though it looks like one: it's a Digital NV device. Think of it as a TV screen strapped on top of you gun. A TV that can own the darkness and did in our testing. It will take some practice by you to feel comfortable with its capabilities; this is discussed.
We'll also look at the features, construction, value, IR device coupling, and most of all night vision performance on top of your AR15. We'll gloss over some capabilities like WiFi and Bluetooth app linking, ATN Radar, ballistic computations, etc because I doubt you'll use those (I didn't). Instead you'll be impressed and use its very sharp and long range capable NV imaging.
These units will be tested further but this is my current night vision device of choice and they are recommended for their relatively low price and capabilities:
