I appreciate the honest review. To be fair to Matt Graham, his blade is modified and addresses all three of the issues you mentioned. Slight regrind to the blade, slight expansion to the leather sheath, and he coated the hardwood handle in buckskin. I hear the V2 version is junk (Micarta handles are in 6 pieces and break with repeated use)

+JW's BulletsNBlades Matt is everyone's fav but this knife Condor came out with is just for cashing in. Save yourself the $$$ and just modify the jungle Bowie yourself as per Matts original knife or go grab a Marbles brand Jungle Bowie (made in El Salvador 420HC) and modify it for even bigger savings. The sheath looks good but its not that great.

From what I understand you have to squeeze the middle part of the sheath which keeps the leather from pinching, which is what is part of what gives it such good retention. I think it the same type of sheath used on some Helle knives and Sammi inspired knives.

I think a finger choil would work great next to the handle to bring the actual cutting edge close to your hand. It would also change the blade weight so there is less arm fatigue with fine carving. Just some thoughts.

that tip bent the first time I jabbed it into a piece of wood, preparing to put linseed oil on the handle. Both sides of the knife tip were too sharp and too thin. I banged the tip straight on an anvil. Also, the inside of the sheath wasn't finished, resulting in a knife that sliced the inner sheath. It made me nervous, withdrawing the blade and feeling it slice into the leather. By scraping the edge around while it's partially in the sheathe helps clear out the excess leather and makes a better draw. Wingman, your idea for a choil would suit this knife well. Good call. In the end, I'd have to agree with you on this one: this knife was introduced into the market too soon. They still have some bugs to get out of the package.

Great video and great review as always Jon. I agree on all points made (well, except the handle issue; I don't have a PBK to feel the handle for myself, but like you said in the video, people with larger hands might not have problems with it, idk). The issue with the grind not going all the way back may be that way so that you can choke up on the blade for finer tasks, I'm not sure though. I think the sheath will be fine after you re-wet form it. The issue I have with the sheath is the way you have to put it on your belt (or I should say through you belt). Does the sheath come out from your waist when drawing it? It seems like it would. I would either have a custom sheath made for it, or modify the stock one with some sort of belt loop system. That's just me, though.

I am tempted to get this knife, everything about it is awesome! I am hoping you can answer some questions i have before i buy it... How does it go when doing big chopping tasks? Could it replace a machete in terms of brush clearing in a jungle scenario? Also, how is the edge retention? How long does it stay razor sharp for and how easy is it to get back to shaving sharp? Thanks alot, randy.

420 HC steel, when properly heat treated, is a very good knife steel. Buck Knives, Case (Tru Sharp Surgical Steel), as well as several prominent German knife makers have used 420 HC (HC= high carbon) for years with great success. For the average person, it is better than so called "super steels" because it is easier to sharpen, esp. in the field, holds an edge "long enough" and then some, and our Grandfathers put food on the table with it. It's easy to maintain also, being stainless steel. Now 420J is junk, bottom of the barrel. Look for the "HC". It is much less expensive as well.

I don't own this knife, but in discussing the area of blade ricasso, perhaps it is for the purposes of sharpening in the field on a rock. At least, when I have sharpened a few of my knives with puck & stone, the ricasso has provided enough space for me to not scratch up the bolster and handle. Also, as to the sheath, It would seem it is much like a traditional Kukri sheath, and if so, would require the user to learn the proper technique in removing the blade, so as to not injure themselves.

I have this knife, and the edge problem at 2.11 is not on mine, i think that was just a factory mistake with yours and so is the false edge on top that you have, it is meant to be sharpened.. for me this knife is the best combination of all things, I've had it for Half a year now, never sharpened it, and it went on some trips with me, it is still quite sharp. no chipings out of the steel either. The sheath does loosen up, i wet molded it, and it is perfect now. WC knives, the knife is light of itself, so dont take of blade weight, a finger choil would reduce usefullness, there is allready a flat bit for your finger. the only change i made is rounding of the tip by 3 tot 5 milimeters to make it even better for bow drill divids I would give it a 5 star rating. The 3 things are all factory mistakes, and the leather is just stiff cuz' it hasnt been used yet. Oh yes, wingman, change your chopping technique, the way you do it now does not look efficient to me. I love the way you do a specs rundown, and how you look at the knife from every position. and how you stay impartial, you're doing well bud!

I like the knife except for the fact that I carry a small axe. I am not drawn to large knives. This looks like a good one though. A little work with a stone will fix the blade. The blade is ground by machine I bet. You have the fix for the sheath and a little tape like on a baseball bat will fix the handle. I have never found a perfect knife or anything really. Good video

Say Heah John, Yeah, I still would like to have the Condor Primitive Bush Knife. But I also wanted a knife to team with my Battle Horse Modified Attitude. I actually found one. I had my Mad Hatter Machete made in such a way that I can use it as a large knife instead of just a Machete. I had the spine rounded for strength and comfort and a small area to strike a ferro rod. The upper 3/4ths of the blade a Convex Grind with Scandi I got the idea from Colhane a Machete Guru, After a little touch up its near perfect. I just don't like it, I love it. Infact I'm using this combo this weekend trip. Yeah my Modde Attitude I can use as my Bushcraft Survival Knife, Infact I could put it up against my BK-2 and my Ranger Afghan Oh, and my Ranger T. F. I, Yeah it's one tough hombro. But with the White G-10 Handles with Blue Liners it L@@Ks people friendly. But deep inside I know how tough it is so yeah'sur I definitely could use it in a Tactical Situation. Beefy, Ahh yeah, Robust, Oh yeah, I'm very happy I had it modified. Not only can I baton chop, but the high scandi It slices great. Two serious critirua I insist in this type of knife. But I still want a Primitive Bush Tool.,,. p

....just pulled the trigger myself....58.00 online....can't wait to try it, lots of very good reviews. I like sheath with no retention that rises high into handle and tab so you can tuck it and go. ANY quality bush knife will need personal, professional re-sharpen....to test an out of box fixed blade is pointless in my opinion.....will not show true capabilities. Good vid though.

looks like a great knife - i like all condors blades but their blade profiles are garbage - they should always be reworked - resharpened - that blade should have gone through that branch like a hot knife through butter

That flat spot in the blade just in front of the handle might be for additional safety when drawing the knife out of the sheath...and when using the knife in general because of the slippery wood scales. And because of the downward sweep of the spine and the false edge at the tip,...it does not appear to be a design that would readily lend itself to batoning wood. I noticed that you did not try that. With that said, at 71.99 dollars, I'll pass. Good review as usual Jon. AMB from Arizona. ;-)

Charles Larson That flat spot really pushes the working edge too far out for me.. I'm going to reprofile the edge when I get a chance on the WorkSharp.

***** I understand.......I'm just saying that it might have been a safety feature. Perhaps they can tell you. Just a thought. Over all, I don't like the design....better knives for the money out there. ;-)

U must have a bad hand or arm, because that chopping display ur doing isn't to good. I have the knife and it's a BEAST! I used Fero Rods, batoned with it etc. Damn near use it for everything. I replaced it with my BK-7 and thats saying a lot.

Ok funny thing I was just commenting on another channel regarding batoning being one of the major test of knives today and how I thought that was about as ridiculous as pounding the knife into a tree and using it as a step...then here you are pounding a knife into a tree and standing on it...awesome. I have a machete that I assume is exactly where that knife came from and in my opinion I think I would rather have the whole machete rather the cut down version. Either way when I first saw Matt Graham on the show with that knife I thought that it was cool and really fit his character but its just not for me.

I watched this video review of the Condor Primitive Bush Knife with great interest. I like cool knife designs. This Bush knife by Condor does look cool. But, John, as soon as you showed the audience the mess made of the knife's cutting edge, I was no longer interested. This is why I like watching these reviews. They offer a good heads-up to the consumer. And as I watched you chop with this blade, I was unimpressed. A very bad knife for chopping, it seems. The biggest problem with this Condor Primitive Bush Knife rests squarely with quality control. Someone working for Condor is not doing their job. This knife should never have been introduced for sale to the public in its present condition.
