I liked your comments on blade edges. It took over a month to get a shaving edge on my SCHF9, spending 15 to 20 minutes a day sharpening it on the coarse side of an Aluminum Oxide stone. It keeps its edge remarkably well, even batoning through Mesquite and Texas Live Oak. I'm glad to see Schrade is putting decent edges on their new knives. Quality steel is a BEAR to sharpen. I'm considering purchasing the 51 after viewing this video. Thanks.

Thanks for the review bud! I was just sitting in my wheelchair watching your review and found your review informative and believable. There are some people out there doing reviews that you cannot take seriously because it looks like it's the 1st time they've ever touched a knife and should go back in the house and play video games with their significant other that they have never met, you know what I mean? But, I think you know what you are talking about or at least enough to do a good review. It's hard sometimes to purchase something online that you haven't seen in person yet. Good reviews help with that, so thank you. Being young on disability makes me poor, and I can't use knives, since I can't use my arms, so even though it's reasonably priced I still have to save up & have them in my house to drool over and daydream about and let anyone use them as long as they return them. Have to find some ways to entertain myself. Anyways, great review

After watching the first release review in Feb. I ordered two, one for me and one for my son. The blade coating is flawless, the weight is perfect for wood processing, the spine is wide enough for good solid baton action without splitting the baton. The diamond stone is traditional for sharpening but they might consider a sharpening system like on the BG ultimate pro sheath with the "V" block and bevel guide, makes sharpening the edge in the field mindless. The plastic liner used in the sheath has a bad habit of going off center when inserting the blade and you have to double check yourself when sheathing or the blade will penetrate between the nylon webbing and liner. So what I ended up doing was heating the top of the liner and opening it up to a wider bell that catches the blade tip and guides it to the center of the liner. Maybe a better sheath that is identical to the BGUP sheath except for all the orange. Like a full Kydex sheath with the sharpener on the tip would be cool. The belt loop with the snaps on it so you can remove the sheath from your belt with out hassling with your belt is an excellent feature, real easy to put onto backpack waist straps, so if they decided to make a Kydex sheath they should make the belt loop open on the bottom like the Mora sheath. BTW, the reason I upgraded to the SCHF 52 from the BGUP is the pro is a bit to short and a bit to light for survival needs, a survival knife needs some beef to it like the 52 has. Just a few things I think they should hear about at Schrade.

Fine review video regarding the Schrade SHF 51 & 52M. Here at Alaska Raft Connection - Alaska-BushRafter, I assess lots of outdoor gear pertaining to boating Alaska’s remote waters (mild to wild). Boating-wise… I evaluate rafts, catarafts, kayaks, canoes, sportboats, and hybrid inflatables and things like solid frameworks and essential on-water accessories. Concerning camp gear… I consider items significant to the accomplishment of a float plan, and what kit is dependable vs. failure in a true wilderness self-reliance trip --- whether it be experts or novices. I enjoyed your explanations and demonstrations as well as agree (tho' my sight unseen as of yet) on personal thoughts for the Schrade's (essentially) well founded updates to the excellent 36 & 37 knives. I have put the Schrade SHF 10 stainless , 26, 36, 37 carbon, and 37M stainless, (in essence aside from the 10 blade design being shaped quite different from others having mostly task equivalent steels other than the stainless and geometry features including updates to scales/handles) through rugged practical-side of field reliability testing. Continually with Schrade of lately, I am remarkably pleased/impressed with the overall capabilities and qualities of the knives. All of the models mentioned above provide complete straight out of the box package for just about any multi-role utility in a rugged bush blade. The pricing is unbelievable for what these knives exemplifies. I’d relate that at 3x the price for any of these, I’d still own any or all of these blades. --- Thanks for your time - Brian

I think one of these will be the next blade on my list.I love the all around shape of the knife, handle/blade.Its very similar to the bk2 becker which I was going to get until I found out the bk2 handle is skeletonized. This severely compromises the strength of the knife. Are these knives solid in the handle? It makes a huge difference.I need to be able to trust my knife 100%!

Great review on some great budget blades! I'm also a fan of the TPE and I have noticed that as I use the knives the TPE looses the outer surface and begins to mold to my hand very naturally. The new handle designs are a great improvement over the F36 and F37 knives, I love the "J" hook on the pommel!! It seems like a long wait to finally get these knives in my hands but it was worth it!

Im a novice with knives, however i have a KA-Bar from 15 years ago that I'm still using and love everything about it, from the balance, the leather sheth and just the overall feeling it has in my hand. Can you recommend something more modern that would be similar to the Ka-Bar, that i can have while working in the yard and just to have on my hip when doing some bushcraft / car camping. These knives look awesome. I really like the 37, so I gotta get my hands on that SCHF52 or 52M I might have to get in touch with Andrew to see if I can get at lease one of them to review before they're on the market.

The video is right. My SCHF52 is geat and they are a great value too. I even did a little review on it with a video titled, I'm happy I got two great knives, and spent less than $50.00.

Nice video. Thank you. I purchased the SCHF 52M about three years ago. I paid 56+ for it. Now I come to find you can get them for under 40. Oh well, I like it. I kind of don’t understand why you’re wearing gloves, you may not always have your gloves with you. I just have a couple questions. What is the best device, or way to sharpen this bad boy. It really isn’t that sharp out of the box. In fact, it kind’ of sucks. Overall, it does seem quite sturdy. I’m thinking about wrapping Paracord around the handle, ‘cause I like Paracord. And it’s always good to have some I think. And also, the shesth is made out of polyester from what I’ve been told more times than nylon. I prefer nylon. The only way to really know is to clip off a piece, melt it, and smell it. Dead giveaway if you’ve ever cleaned carpets for a living. Polyester being the most widely used product for carpets. Plus, the bead of the melted polyester, plus the smell are a giveaway. I definitely prefer nylon. If you know what I’m saying about it. And the coating on the blades are a black ‘powder coating’. Thank you for your time.

That SCHF51 looks like a great, all around camping/survival knife. Just a beefy piece of steel.

G'day Jon, Another great review. Loved the stepping off the log test. Apart from the handle configuration they remind me of a BK2 and a BK7 that you don't have to mess around with stripping off the coating and replacing the handles as a matter of course. Over the past year or so I've been impressed at how Schrade have picked up their game. These look like super serious; heavy duty bush/survival knives and as I've already got a great customised BK2 I'll be be looking seriously at getting a 52M. Shame you still got to find decent sheaths for these puppies but at the probable price point that's no great shakes. Thanks again for your time on these videos. I don't do social media so could you please do a quick video when these come onto the open market?

Almost there. Remove the ramp in the back, kill the jimping, remove the choil, and straighten out the back end for a good striking/ferro rod striker tip and we're 90% there. Make it Scandi and Schrade won't be able to produce them fast enough

Torn between the Micarta and the TPE handle. Is it worth the extra money for the Micarta?

Thanks. I am not the "easiest" on knives and I have read that the micarta can be brittle. Gonna play it safe and go with the TPE...for the first one. Thanks for the input and video.

Will be getting the SCHF52 straight from Taylor Brand here in a few days to replace the brand new SCHF37 under a warranty issue. I just received the SCHF37 yesterday, March 30, 2016 from a retailer store. When I got home, my first two tests was one, will it cut paper...yes...two will it baton like all the tests I have seen here on KZbin and like on their (Schrade's video) website...well yes and no...I batonned a split log for firewood that is over 3 years old...and then I went to split a limb about the size of a soda can and about a foot long, same age as the split firewood, and the knife broke in half!! Now again this was the SCHF37...Schrade is going to make it right, in fact they are sending me a SCHF52!! I hope that the 1095 High Carbon Steel is better now in the 52 than it was in the 37.

+Wingman115 just an update. I did receive the SCHF52 and I am very well pleased with it and with Schrade's customer service. I have posted a video on my KZbin channel showing my review of the SCHF52 and in that video it shows the pictures I took of the SCHF37. I really like the feel of the grip, and the overall feel of the entire knife.
