I get asked so much over on my Instagram about my coneflower collection (52 varieties and counting 😬😂) so I decided to make a dedicated video to them. From my tricks to establishing them, varieties I have, disease issues you might encounter, to beautiful companies for a dramatic display.
Any questions drop them below and I’ll be sure to answer them for you!

I removed all of my doubles. Bees like singles so much better. So much fun to see all of the activity. Bonus is the goldfinches that eat the old dried out flower heads.

This is why I only buy singles, I love watching the bees and other insects on my plants, not to forget the finches and other birds loving the seeds. Nothing better then in winter seeing the stalks sticking out of the snow with birds eating the seeds. Juncos scratching in snow for fallen seed too.

QUESTION!!! Wow btw, I had no idea there was so many different coneflowers! Thank you for sharing that! I love all coneflowers, they have always been my favorite, but I lost my purple one that I grew from seed last year to some kind of small white worms that invaded the roots. I just bought the most beautiful orangey red one about 3 weeks ago and noticed the color was getting drab. There are vertical cuts in the main stem. Would anyone know what that is and what to do about it? I sprayed it with soap and water but I have no idea if that will save it or kill it. 😢

Heavy damage from earwigs and Japanese beetles this year, but, just did a heavy cut back of blooms and noticed I had too much mulch- lower leaves were in the mulch and rotting and attracting the earwigs. Scraping away mulch removing any bad foliage allowing airflow and light and heat down low hopefully will help get a new flush of love.

Wondering how you could tell that the first flower you showed was asters yellow and not the mite. Was it the deformed petals? I'm never sure which is which.
@GardenEvolution
@GardenEvolution Жыл бұрын
So asters yellow generally shows up in the cone part and starts “growing out”. Where as the mite usually eats the petals and your just left with a cone. It’s still viable to beneficial insects and to birds just doesn’t give ya the pretty petals
