I didn’t know how bad these laws are.... They desperately need to be revised. Someone getting more time for a picture than for actual rape of someone is absurd!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I fully agree. Low level stuff that's non physical or violent like having pictures shouldn't be even seen as a felony. It should be a misdemeanor where a fine is paid or they get probation. Yet our justice system is so screwed up and against sex offenders just because it's easy for politicians to use sex offenders to get votes. It all is insane and needs to be redone properly. Where those that haven't actually done anything, physical are let off with misdemeanors and able to rebuild their lives like others. On top of those that don't commit anything for years should be forgiven too and allowed to live a normal life. To all get proper jobs that's not part time if they are lucky and live where they want.

Yeah, I mean the whole pictures thing could be grey area too. Like, someone had an addiction to porn and unknowingly downloaded illegal stuff, or actual pedos hacking a neighbors WiFi so they can get the content without the trouble, or malware, etc, etc. I abhor obscenity with children but there’s always a situation where it really isn’t what it sounds like

The registry needs to be abolished!!! If an offender is deemed violent, thus a true threat to society, then they should remain incarcerated, unless a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation deems them no longer a threat. Otherwise, allow the non-violent offenders and those who didn’t, in any way, commit a crime that was sexual, in nature, i.e, taking a leak behind tree, or viewing porn (not actually touching a child), the chance for redemption, after serving their time. No other crime requires this nonsense

I feel bad for the offenders who aren’t dangerous. I feel like there should AT LEAST be an accessible path to redemption, or pardon. It would be different if this was for violent sexual predators but they put Bush pissers and Romeo and Juliet scenario people in there. It’s not right

Yep in 2006 they started putting children on there and yes a lot of the teens get removed from the registry but even though taken off that stigma doesn’t go away.

All that I've seen and read pretty much shows the same. The registry, restrictions, and laws against sex offenders specifically are insane. Some need redone while others like the registry should go entirely. It all allows no ability to reenter society in any way after serving a sentence and punishes low level offenders for the rest of their lives. Making those who possessed child porn to pay for the damages when they can hardly even get a job nor a place to live is insane. Things like that should be misdemeanors at best where you pay a fine or do community service then you can still get a good job ECT to live a life. Instead humanity and the so acclaimed justice system treats all sex offences the same. Making it were a murderer, a burglar, violent abuser, drug offenses, or mobster be able to reintegrate back into society with less restrictions. Peeing in public isn't a sex offense cause every human being has done it in their lives at some point. Humanity needs to chamge the laws and make some go away against sex offenders cause they all are causing more harm, than good. Harming the families as well as the offenders longer than it should. Making them outcast anf yet all anyone sees is the name on the registry. Not the time the crime was committed, how many years have passed since then, what exactly it was, or anything. It's all just blown out of proportion by the media, fanning people's emotions, who then blindly believe all sex offenders are the same, and yet the person could have only had a few pictures that they might not have known they had in the first place yet are unable to afford a way to prove it. Or some are charged as kids who didn't know better yet society has branded them for life. Ruining any chance to become a productive member of society and turning the whole country into a prison to which the only way out is death. Even now going as far as putting on a passport that someone is a sex offender is cruel and unusual punishment since no other offense has to do that "yet". The laws against sex offenders need to be redone, some need to go entirely, and the restrictions need to go as well. It's all insane to treat human beings that make a mistake like havong a few pictures punished forever and make it impossible to become a productive member of society again. Everyone deserves that chance and everyone deserves to be happy. Let the low level offenders live their lives happily and no more under insane restrictions as well as cruel laws that really help nobody.

@Rise Over here305 I know it's got a victim but I'm sure over time they griw tired of being in their 30s getting phone calls reminding them of something they soon realise is never gonna go away since its on the internet forever. Laws need to just accept that truth and make it a misdemeanor if that's all any person busted has. Pay a fine, serve community service, no registry, and put more effort into the physical n violent crimes.

Had a drunk piss in the parking lot of a Gallagher concert once, right in front of me, my wife and kids. I almost didn't see him in time to keep from walking through the stream. Yes it was rude, but definitely not a sex offence. I just directed my family around him and we went on about our business. Didn't call the police. Didn't make a big deal out of it.

Norm, was listening to your speech for the RSOL group and like my dad use to say if you can't say anything good about someone don't say anything. While I know the sex registry is full of holes and you are trying to use your talents, if you call them talents, you are going at it the wrong way. And yes we are all sex offenders. I even have an article on that one. The thing of it is some of us just haven't gotten caught. While I have to look at the good, bad, and the ugly of life there is a better way to your judicial discretion.

Um , I know about farms and farmers . And him refusing to register is ludicrous because he just admitted to doing a (supposedly) exposition of himself . But guess what ? He’s also a lawyer . How many lawyers do you see go to jail ? NONE . So his points are not relevant . CONGRESS IS FULL OF LAWYERS ! They band together to enact laws . This is good . Right ? But how many lawyers will go back on themselves and tell everybody else , that this is a very bad idea . I hear the supreme court’s argue AFTER THE FACT . And by that time it’s too late . Now what ? You can’t abolish that law . No one will . People get crucified over this subject ! So I have given up .

We have separation of powers. Legislation is passed and courts rule it constitutional or not. That can affect some people negatively, but our political system is built on three separate branches of government. It can be frustrating, that is for sure.

@@NARSOL so these lawyers pass the responsibility to the court . Um , in away that could be a good thing . The lawyer is let off the hook .
