Yeah, after 21 yrs, I don't even want to be with him. Nor do I love him. At 65... he is emotionally vacant,resentful and selfish. Who needs this shit?

@fullgallupfarms I really hope you'll be able to break away sooner rather than later, especially if you feel that strongly about him, which is totally understandable! I want to add that many of them stay abusive, not to mention miserable, after they stop drinking etc and too much harm has been caused anyway. ❤

I’ve been with my spouse 20 years and he’s been on drugs and alcohol almost the whole time . I’ve been lied to so much by him about everything and anything I don’t even know my ass from a while in the ground anymore . Or what’s up or down . I feel so lost and just broken . I’ve actually accepted that he’s choose his cocaine over me and the kids so I’m gone . Just saving money behind his back so I can leave !

Thank you Amber! I’ve been listening to your videos for over a year and they have helped me to keep my sanity and gave me the tools to help get my husband sober. He’s now 75 days sober! Before that, there were months of trial and error with relapse but it was a part of the journey to where we are today. Thank you for your videos and guidance for families that love and want to help addicts!! You are a blessing!

Great tips! Also, to keep reminding ourselves of these because it is so easy to fall back into it especially if you have been dealing with it for so long. Thank you Amber!

43 years married. I still love my wife, but I don't like being around her after the second drink. Same shit every night. Leaving is not an option. I'm not giving up 1/2 of what I worked for my whole career.

You can’t take care of yourself. They watch you taking care of yourself and they don’t like it so they destroy anything you do to try and take care of yourself. I decided to go all out and decorate a Christmas tree this year. When he saw how happy it made me- he got drunk and ripped it from its frame. This is just one more example of an alcoholic. After he destroyed the tree- he put his sights on me. He grabbed me by my head and shoved me to the floor then threw me out in a rain storm. I slept in my car that night. I woulda called someone but he also stole my phone. The criminal justice system can’t fix it, counseling can’t fix it- only you and prayers can fix it if this behavior looks like your story. But you gotta get out.

I’m still gone from him. Been two weeks. Course it hurts. My heart is broken but hearts heal. I’ve been through an awful 17 year experience. Listen to me ladies and gentlemen- YOUR ALCOHOLIC LOVED ONE WILL NEVER EVER EVER LOVE YOU MORE THAN THEIR BOOZE!

My husband says he wants to stop drinking the hard stuff but he can never stop drinking beer!! So I guess he really won't or doesnt want to stop any of it ):

Going through the same thing. At first, he said he won’t touch any hard stuff but slowing down with a can of beer, and if he can’t stick with that, he’s considered going to AA. 3 days later, he told me that i misunderstood about all that, he meant drinking hard stuff once in a while. Whatever, I don’t want to deal with psychological manipulation because it’s unhealthy for my mental health. I’ll just let it be.

What about an alcoholic ex spouse that only uses Soberlink the 25% of the time he has the children? There is concern about continued drinking the other 75% of the time when the children are not with him. Is that set-up a bad idea? Is that just putting a band-aid on the problem?

@@amnabid My and I separated because her drinking was way out of control and she would destroy things get violent and try to smear my name every chance she got, I had to remove her from the home because she was harming my kids. after being apart for some time she swore she cut back on drinking so that the kids could visit her. When they came back upset looking like their souls were drained she lied. Drinking never slowed down it sucks to love someone and know you can't do anything to help them because every effort you make is met with opposition. We have been married for 18 years and I feel completely drained and hollow inside these days.

Having a hard time with #3 😟. If there's already a lot of distance in the relationship, won't me switching to doing my own thing push him further away?

@megsley
@megsley 9 ай бұрын
at that point it's the addicts choice to keep away from their loved ones - if they don't want to be a part of family life then that's their choice. you can't keep putting your life on hold because the addict doesn't want to change.
@Romiegirl-jq4rj

Then you get blamed for abandoning them or being “cold”, acting like your roommate etc etc. There is no right move the non addicted spouse can ever make in their eyes. Not to mention even more distance and feeling like they aren’t even a part of your life affects intimacy too. I didn’t marry my buddy .
