Confused Reviews - Episode 71 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen comedy film written, co-produced, and directed by John Hughes and co-produced by Tom Jacobson. The film stars Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, with supporting roles from Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones, Cindy Pickett, Edie McClurg, and Lyman Ward. It tells the story of a high school slacker, Ferris, who skips school with his best friend, Cameron, and his girlfriend, Sloane, for a day in Chicago, and regularly breaks the fourth wall to explain his techniques and inner thoughts.
Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week. Filming began in September 1985 and finished in November, featuring many Chicago landmarks including the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, and the Art Institute of Chicago. The film was Hughes's love letter to Chicago: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit."
Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, the film became the tenth-highest-grossing film of 1986 in the United States, grossing $70 million over a $5 million budget. The film received acclaim from critics and audiences alike, who praised Broderick's performance, the humor, and the tone.
In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film was followed by a television series, starring Charlie Schlatter as the title character.

Absolutely no remake! But would a sequel be uplifting or depressing? Hmmm...

I hate to say I’d like to see a follow up (because deep down of course I would) but I fear it’d be the “same but different but mostly the same” a lot of sequels/remakes have been doing as of late.

Much as he's fallen on the wayside (BIG TIME), i still think Noah Antwiller's "Dr. Insano Review" on the film is maybe the best "Conspiracy" video, that Ferris is a evil mastermind hellbent on controlling those around him, all in the quest for... one day off from school. XD

Cameron’s hissy fit is my favorite scene in the entire movie. I’ll go. I’ll go. I’ll go. Takes the keys out of the ignition, jumps up and down 5 times, then throws the keys.

According to the book, "You Couldn't Ignore Me If You Tried", it revealed Alan Ruck's ideas of what happened after the credits that quote "Once Cameron's father got home, well his father KILLED him. His father threw him out of the window... And I do think Ferris and Sloane got married, and then got divorced." WTF...

@@ConfusedReviews He also described what he thought a sequel would be about. He said quote "I used to think 'Why don't they just wait until Mathew and I are in our 70's and do "Ferris Bueller Returns" and have Cameron be in a nursing home?' He doesn't need to be there but just decided his life is over, so he committed to a nursing home. And Ferris comes and breaks him out and they go to like a tittybar and all this ridiculous stuff happens. And then at the end of the movie, Cameron dies."
@ConfusedReviews
@ConfusedReviews 8 ай бұрын
The nursing home breakout sounds like the exact kind of re-quel Hollywood would LOVE to make right now. Have Sloan and Ferris be married but on the rocks, Cameron’s in a similar funk as before and they can rehash all the old shit while introducing Ferris Jr or Cameron’s daughter, Cameron… Shit I shouldn’t be putting these ideas into the universe.

@@ConfusedReviews That's not a bad idea actually. I got most of this from a great video that further discussed many possible ideas for a sequel. One of which was from John Hughes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIuUqX-Yq7SeppIsi=ZpDzjApZGmC8-GMN
@brandonspain12345

@@ConfusedReviews There's actually two more proposed ideas for a sequel. John Hughes stated "Well we thought about doing a sequel, where he'd be in college or at his first job. The same kind of thing happens again. But neither of us found a very exciting hook to that. The movie's just about a singular time in your life." He'd later state that if it did happen, it would just be a lame rehash and nobody would want that. (Which is kinda refreshing to hear from somebody.) Then in 2011, a script was leaked titled "Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off" set 20 years later. Since Highschool, Ferris became a motivational speaker and spread his help all over the world. His best friend Cameron is now his manager and is still inside all the time. But despite Ferris's success, he's unhappy on his 40th birthday. Realizing he let himself go, and misses the gold old days. So he takes _another day off_ with Cameron and tries to relive his past. We also learn his sister is married to Charlie Sheen's character, Salone is now a Hollywood star and is in a rough marriage. Ferris and Cameron pick her up on their adventure. Also, (for some reason,) Rooney is STILL after Ferris for revenge. 12 pages were leaked and were bashed by everyone. It's now hard to find it. Turns out, it was written by some amateur screenwriter in the hopes for Paramount to adapt it but they (thankfully) never did.
