I liked where you talked about your OCD (now characterized as OCPD) and how psychologists will argue that a disorder doesn't make you who you are. I'm studying to be a psychologist/therapist (in my 3rd year of college atm) and with the DSM 4 (and previous iterations) this would've been true, but with the updated DSM it's actually incorporated a lot more "people first"/humanitarian language and characteristics because of the very "saying negative OR positive things about disorders makes people with these disorders feed off their disorders more" bit that you stated. Which is entirely true. If you keep demeaning OR romanticizing a person's mental illness, then they begin to think it's a personal fault (or an asset and won't want to seek help), and I think you captured that perfectly. Really, OCD *IS* a part of who you are (although it isn't your defining characteristic), but it's just a matter of working around it and making it so that what a person is dealing with or feeling is healthy. I know in the past, mental illnesses were stigmatized to such a degree that even psychologists would attribute them to personal faults or behaviors, but it definitely isn't that simple and the psych field has certainly caught up with that (for which I am thankful). My point in saying this is, I really love that you're open about yourself like this, because it normalizes the every day things that people deal with (like depression or OCPD or anxiety or w/e), and like you said, a person's OCD could be one of the very things that makes them observant and detailed and particular enough to enjoy things like mathematics. It's definitely a double-edged sword, and even though it was meant to be a kinda funny bit about yourself, I really liked your input on it. I'm glad to be one of the true babies. Thanks for keeping it real af as always!
