He has a really good point about lifting appropriately vs lifting heavy. It doesn’t matter what you lift, it’s how you lift it. They don’t put dumbbells on stage and see who curls the most or chest-presses the most, they pick the best physique and look at what’s on stage, not how they got there
@boz837 Жыл бұрын
Finally!!! Someone who isn’t preaching progressive over load all of the time. If you aren’t connecting to the muscle you are wasting your time. If you aren’t getting a good contraction you are wasting your time. I’ve made more progress with your videos and Information in the last 6 months than I have in the last 6 years of lifting. All bodybuilding and I stopped pretending to be a power lifter. I was killing my back with deadlifts and squats and had zero connection with barbell bench press. Thanks Mike!

He's right, I had the "more weight" menatlity. Now 4 weeks after rotator cuff repair surgery. Could have all been avoided. Now I am unable to lift any weight for about 6 months, and then it will be physical therapy weight. I doubt I will be able to really train upper body for 9 - 11 months. Listen to this man!!
@dougburrell Жыл бұрын
I've learned more from you and Jonni Shreve than anyone else regarding bodybuilding. When I was in my late 30's all I did was move weight. Did I have a decent bench? Yes, so what I ended up with rotator cuff surgery a couple years later and a bad back cuz all I did was bench. I think the problem with most guys including my younger self is we think just cuz were guys we have some innate understanding and ability to lift weights. Add the ego to that and its a recipe for injury and no growth. Now I'm 62 and finally look like a body builder. At least I get unsolicited positive comments from people on my size. That has never happened before and I am in no way close to Wycked or Shreve. So many thanks to the both of you.

Mike you saved my chest workouts after 8 years of feeling that something ain't right with my pressing. I watched your every chest video and finally know how to press, but I always like to come back to these videos. These things needs to be repeated again again and again. and you are really entertaining and you could do milion videos about chest and I'll still watch them all. So if you ever feel like "I already did that video" trust me, you can do it next 100 times and we would still appreciate it!

One of the biggest benefits of watching these videos and moving, largely, from free weights to machines is that no one gives a damn how much you chest press on a machine, so I'm never inclined to ego lift. The numbers mean almost nothing to me, but the feeling is everything.

I tried your chest training method. I like it alot. I feel a good connection. Seems awesome. It makes senses if your back gets thicker then the center of your back moves away from the rear pad. Head moves forward if you hold still. Puts you in a further stretch postion. Best technique guy ever.

I’ve taken my time, studied thousands of videos of tutorials and tips to be better. I’ve even come across some of these tips just with experience but no words to say it. When you slow down with movements and weights and just focus on the path of travel..man it’s such a difference of say.. flat vertical wrists and opposed to bent wrists for chest press, or leaning too far forward with squats, or not retracting scapula for chin ups. What I’m trying to say is, thank you Mike!! You’ve been such a great help!! Congrats on 80k!! 👊😎🚀

I knew and have been working on the "mind muscle connection," but the tweaks you suggest have saved my shoulders, and I have the best stimulation in years! I'm working through relearning the mechanics of every exercise. It'll be interesting to see where I am in 4 to 6 months. The best advice I have ever tried. Maybe one day, I'll make my way across the GTA and thank you personally. And have a go in that awesome gym. Thanks from an old guy just trying to live his best self.

Series 2. 6 videos: "If Mike did a Full Body split". Each video is day 1, day 2, day 3..... day 6. Each video really grills down on movements, joint positions, pressure direction for each exercise in that day. This would be AWESOME!!

My chest sux!! I’m 41, and every year I think I figure out new shit that going to help my chest. And I do, it has gotten better. I used to be super limited to presses that I could actually feel/use my chest. For some reason I just lose the “neurological” connection almost over night. Like my back I could stop lifting for a year, come back and still be able to really feel/use my back. It’s crazy, the neurological thing is the only thing I can come up with that seems to make sense. Might just be BS though😂. But what I’m getting at is lately I’ve revisited normal pressing machines, and I can actually use my chest now to press! Your head back to press has really helped.

Stand in front of a mirror at home and try to flare your lats. I certainly do not have large lats but I practiced it a few times until I flared what little I had. Now, once you can do that, here’s the big tip when doing lat exercises: At the start of each rep, think “flare the lats” throughout concentric. Every rep, every time. Keep good form, always, no ego lifting. My God, I finally feel sore in lats doing it this way!
