For anyone asking themself how would it be possible to share connection via ethernet cable and charge the phone at the same time, the answer is rather simple. What you need is a USB-C hub with charging port, something like "Satechi Type-C Multi-Port Adapter 4K with Ethernet V2". Tried this combination and works like a charm.

Thank you soo much! I use to do an old school version of this by tethering to my pc via USB and then sharing the internet connection of my ethernet adapter. It would work, but there were problems. First, you had to have a PC on all the time for the connection. Second problem was with online gaming with consoles, there was always a NAT issue. Also, you would have to edit the IPv4 settings in windows to try and clone what the router was giving to the network. Then you would have even more issues if you had devices with a static ip. It could be a hassle, especially if it was only a temp setup. But this was like magic. I didn't realize the new settings for tethering were built in to 5G phones. Honestly, I'm getting about 75% of what I would get with My ISP. I wonder how long this will run stable. I've been running rock solid for an hour now and everything is working, even my Alexa and smart devices that have security tokens. One more thing I'm only getting 3 bars because of the placement, If I get a longer cord and bring the phone to the window, I might get the same or better than my ISP. Sorry for the "Dear John", but this really is a game changer for me and I wanted you to know how much I appreciated your tutorial. I'm using a Samsung Note 20 ultra 5G and a TP-Link AX3200 router with a generic USB-C ethernet adapter/USB hub from Amazon that I bought for an old Android tablet I use to have.👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 (gentleman's whiskey clap)

I assume you are connecting via Wi-Fi from the router to your old laptop and the slow speed is due to the old network hardware in the laptop. Of course, it ruins the convenience of being mobile but if you wanted 5g speed you just have to run a network cable from the LAN port on your modem to the laptop. The other option if you have no other devices requiring mobile Wi-Fi is to use a USB-C to USB 3 (or 2) cable and connect directly from the mobile phone to the laptops USB port using tethering. That would also give you 5g speed. (if no ISP restrictions)

There are USB dongles that have a port for your charger. Look for one with "PD" or "power delivery". If the USB dongle doesn't have an Ethernet port you can add USB-A to Ethernet adapter to it. Thanks. I have a galaxy S21 FE and I wanted to cheap out and use the 5G plan on my phone (that's unlimited) for internet connectivity on my household network. Planning on getting a type c to Ethernet adapter and using that with my router. Main concerns are latency and although the 5G speeds are good where I live (Bangalore, India - 700-1000Mbps, Jio is the provider) I feel like the USB 2.0 on the dongle would bandwidth limit the connection to 450 or so Mbps that's the max bandwidth you can have on USB 2.0. I really didn't want to pay for my 5G plan + another extra fiber connection.

(that phone in the video is using Google Fi service) 3. you can try looking in your phones network setting and see if the phone is even pulling a dhcp address from your wired network (and be sure the phone's wifi is OFF).
