also, double check: Go to All Settings, search for "Turn Airplane Mode On". Look at the bottom where "Xbox Wireless" is in the off position, turn it on. Now your controllers will pair correctly with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

EDIT: I got it working. I used a different usb port. Working good, just tested out bluetooth headset and controller same time and it works. --- old message --- Some reason its not working for me. All I know is that I ordered a Seahawks Xbox controller from the microsoft website in september or october 2020. And then ordered the XBox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 from microsoft website, just got it now. So I have been able to pair the controller to my laptop over bluetooth and I also have used it over usb wire. But I got the microsoft adapter because the controller loses bluetooth connection when I use bluetooth headset. I unpaired bluetooth controller. turn the controller on and hold that pairing button on the controller for a few seconds until the light blinks fast. And on that microsoft adapter, I tried pressing the button and also holding the button, the only thing it does is just blink slowly. The controller doesn't connect.

You are very welcome, I'm glad I am able to help, AA battery life depends on what type you are using. its really your preference whether you want to use these accessories, there are a lot of good AA rechargeable batteries out there that can possible beat the power capacity of this xbox battery but nothing can beat charge-and-play when it comes to serious gaming.

Had the exact same issues as everybody else i.e. uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and controller not pairing with the adapter even though the LEDS were blinking. After reading Pyrhuss's post, even though my flight mode was off already I went to settings>>network & Internet>>flight mode, and sure enough, under wireless adapters Xbox Wireless was turned off. Turned it back on and everything works fine.

I would check your PC first before purchase the dongle. My 5 years old PC has built in Bluetooth so no need to spend $30 on the dongle. To turn on BT: open settings, device, turn Bluetooth ON, and then add/search the BT. To pair: press the small button on the left near the micro connection on front and the light should blink rapidly (mean search/pair connection).

if you have bluetooth connection directly to your motherboard it should work without the adapter. primarily this adapter is intended to connect multiple xbox controllers and accessories (headsets) simultaneously, and benefit people who doesn't have bluetooth built-in their motherboard.

@@stevbln the USB dongle is just used to connect your controller to pc/laptop, If u have bluetooth u dont need it. If u are using normal AA batteries the UsB cable cannot charge them, you will need to buy the Xbox charge and play battery to charge while plugged in USB cable

I really like it but the only downside is if your battery on your controller dies mid game or you let the controller time out and turn off, it won't connect to it again until you restart your computer. I assume it thinks that the controller is connected even though it's not because right when the controller finds the wireless adapter it turns off immediately. And i won't even have time to put the controller into pairing mode because it finds it so quickly and turns off. And if i remove the adapter and put the controller into pairing mode and then connect the adapter and put that into pairing mode it won't help because as soon as it finds the controller it shuts it down. Restarting will always solve it and it never happens unless the battery dies mid game or if it times out, but it's sometimes annoying when it happens mid game or when i have something else going on when i can't restart my computer.

That's strange...i let it time out in the middle of games all the time and it always works again when turning it on midgame...make sure the adapter is inserted in a primary port if you havent.
