My muscles in my neck have been overworked trying to help me breathe and they are aggravated! They are trying to do an ablation on nerves in my neck but i think the root issue is thoracic outlet adjacent. I need to find a physical therapist who can look at my issue and not dismiss it as I have been dismissed for 6 years. I straight up showed them your video. If you have this posture please find out if you have Bertolotti syndrome. I have had this posture since I was a child. I have had severe back pain off and on since i was 10 years old. No one ever took my back pain seriously. Doctors wouldn't help and thought it was muscular. It wasn't. At 27, I had a fully ruptured L4-5 disc. It was horrendous pain and sciatic nerve damage. Fast forward 2 decades, I got a functional mri done for another reason, and the doctor told me I had Bartolotti syndrome! It explains everything. The childhood back pain, the ruptured disc, the swayback posture. Bertolotti's is congenital, meaning you're born with it. Please make sure you find a doctor who knows about this syndrome and get scanned for it if you have chronic back pain, swayback posture. I developed severe bacterial pneumonia 4 months ago and dant take full breaths. I thimk the pneumonia is related to not being able to breathe in fully.

The position of the pelvis should be considered as you said, in a kyphosis there's less room for the rib cage to expand and the diaphragm to contract but normally during breathing without exertion it's mostly gentle quiet diaphragmatic breathing. Accessory respiratory muscles are usually only recruited in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or severe kyphosis or other conditions with chest wall weakness. The lower ribs are genuinely pulled 'down' in people with emphysema.

Technically, you are very nearly correct. However, the propensity for one to reference their skull as oneself, and use as a midline reference the skull itself versus as you say, “the midline of the body.” So, at least two reference points: 1) I strive to keep my head “upright” versus, independent of my body, 2) I strive to keep my head upright and over my body. Ones body can be fairly straight or crooked but the head can also, the two are not necessarily aware. We all know people with slouched or injured posture who under or over compensate, deteriorate, and improve. Some cultures do not approve of the very open chested, uprighted head, straight ahead or uplifted gaze. So, “posture” itself has many cultural meanings and interpretations Personally, the movements of trained ballet dancers show what is a very open breathing mechanism.

Good general mobility program but the big dogs have proven that the only way to decrease a thoracic kyphosis is with fulcrum traction under load, over time. The change in kyphosis is the shrinking or tightening of the anterior longitudinal ligament primarily and the only thing that has been proven to change the length of a ligament is loaded traction ... as per the CBP protocols (Deed Harrison). Good luck with it ..... its all in Spine, European Spine Journal and Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics. Enjoy.

You won't read this but this is first time I've seen any reasonable mechanical explanation that didn't involve "you have weak x muscles you just need to exercise your back" so called experts are completely unable to think about this issue because they don't realistically care about it. Question: what are your thoughts on the trigger/ catalyst for this being a structural weakness in one or more of the vertebrae in childhood, causing the body to compensate in the different ways? I have noticed a point in my spine that appears to be able to bend more than the rest of the spine. And body attempts to use muscles elsewhere to stay upright, over time it fails to stay upright impacting other areas

I do get relief and breathe with my chest naturrally after doing the exercise, but this only lasts for a minute and afterwards go straight back to belly breathing. @@rafaelbarraza343 Yeah I fixed it. My before/after posture and xrays look like 2 different people. The posture I use today, I wasn't even physically capable of standing in 5 years ago. And my skeleton itself is permanently changed. But it took a LOT of dedication. Required commitment every day, all day long. As well as while sleeping. First I had to loosen/lengthen all my muscles, tendons, and ligaments (from calves to my neck). Then I had to strengthen the muscles. Next I had to start fixing the posture itself. Followed by having to obsessively remember to maintain the posture. And then comes the hardest part; making your brain turn it into your permanent, default posture that's maintained subconsciously. I did all the common stuff that shows up when you search. Modified toe touches, chin tucks, wall angels, foam rolling, etc.

@6:37 THIS is exactly what happens to me. But i didnt understand your explanation. When we have kyphosis and front ribs depressed down, isnt the spine moving parallel and compensating? Why would diaphram be stucked? I get lower rib pains where u showed. Plz help me understand.

Im pretty sure this is what has caused my severe TOs and nerve issues in brachial plexus. In scared about tOs survery as mine is due to posture however i cant seem to keep upright posture due nto the hocked up collarbone and tightness and firbosis tissue issues in this area causing me to be pulled forward. I was doing somewhat ok until went back to desk job few days a wrrk and now im spiralling down again fast and have downward compressions also from it in ulnar nevre and radial. Im so lost on how to fix it when phsyio makes it worse as of state im in and its vicious cycle

Hey Conor, you talk about turning your head towards the same side as the lat that is being stretched. My head massively wants to turn the other way (left) in almost all these activities. Even after I’m done w exercises and my torso more naturally rotates left, it’s difficult to turn my head right. Do you think this is a muscle issue or is this a more complicated cervical issue? Massive kyphosis on my right side, less on my left

You most likely damaged something on your right side (vertebrae, knee, shoulder) and it put you into a state of right avoidance. The left side overcompensated for the movements thus the musculature is more developed. Suitcase carry in good posture should help. ❣️

I wish you could show some real life examples of people with these issues. Not a model, a real person.
