It’s a terrible situation when a fellow countryman will take advantage of his peers in a foreign land. And, still happening this day!

That'll be why I find so many old Irish penny's etc while metal detecting in the west of Scotland then 👍

Once the UK authorities finally started cracking down on the Scottish and English, they outsourced the rough stuff. Irish seasonal workers in the UK were treated like Mexican seasonal workers were in California. Except the warm and sunny elements in California wouldn't be as likely to kill as would the Scottish cold and damp.

Irish seasiponal pickers had been the UK's agricultural backbone for literally centuries. Then the Irish got too uppity and too expensive so the Scots got cheaper labor from Eastetn Europe instead.

Find the works of Patrick MacGill, who documented this life the Irish seasonal workers in the UK in the early 1900s had to suffer. _The Rat Pit_ ; and _Children of the Dead End_ They are companion stories, but I recommend reading _Children of the Dead End_ first, for reasons that become apparent at the end.

The spuds, the music, the narration, yer man's hairdresser hairstyle and mad accent. Nothing matches anything. A bit bizarre but still prefer it to anything on RTE today
