Conscription for women in Norway | Focus on Europe

Norway extended compulsory military service to women in summer 2016. Women currently make up about 10 percent of the Norwegian Armed Forces. All medically fit women aged between 19 and 44 years will be obliged to complete at least 19 months of military service.

Numbers have changes a little bit since this video. Standing forces are a little bit up, reserves way down. Their 2019 stats show 15917 employees, including 3320 civillian employees. Add to that 7413 conscripts that completed their terms of service. That's 20.000 military personell in total, about 1/3 in various stages of readiness (from raw recruits to those nearing the end of their 10 months of service). The home guard is at 40.000 personell, but they're not exacly a rapid deployment force anymore. They have to assemble to get their bolt carrier groups back, which adds anywhere from a few hours to a day on their deployment times.

You will not be shipped off to serve abroad unless you apply for it and is deemed to be physically fit enough to do so. Before you become a part of overseas forces, you are put through physical tests to see that you are actually able to do the job. If you're not fit, you will have to wait back home to train more or just leave the idea and stay at home all together.
