Interview: Dirty Honey on New Album, Aerosmith, and Gene Simmons' “Rock Is Dead” Claim

After taking rock radio by storm with their 2019 singles "When I'm Gone" and "Rolling 7s" off their self-titled EP, Dirty Honey are back with their eponymous full-length debut album. The Los Angeles rockers' music comes with a gritty swagger, with musical nods to iconic acts like Aerosmith and AC/DC.
With Dirty Honey set to properly record their full-length debut, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, throwing a wrench in their original plans. Still, they soldiered on and recorded a hard-rocking eight-song effort, which has just arrived.
Heavy Consequence caught up with singer Marc Labelle and guitarist John Notto over Zoom to discuss the new album, the current single "California Dreamin'" (not a cover of the The Mamas & the Papas song), the influence of Aerosmith, and their reaction to Gene Simmons' oft-stated claim that "rock is dead".

Gene didn't claim there was no new rock bands. His statement was the music business is dead for rock. Dirty Honey have no record deal , that was Genes point about the new rock scene. It's easy to look into what he was talking about.

While we can look into What gene was talking about, his comment was "the music business is dead for Rock" Could that be why kiss is doing a farewell tour? After all Gene Simmons is 72 perhaps that's why his Viewpoint has changed.

And dirty honey may not have a record deal, but if you can hit number one on the billboard charts without one you're a hard rock band like they are that is a rare and genuine thing! they're proving they have what it takes record deal or no!.... the music business is not dead for rock it's just become more cutthroat as everything has you must now prove that you're a valuable commodity before they're going to give you anything and that includes a record deal.

Gene is SO senile he actually thinks KISS was a full ahead accomplished rock band. Nah....they were just a circus act; guessing- I think they made more money selling merch than they did albums! Dirty Honey OUTROCKS Kiss, period. And Gene can't handle it. He is so wrong re: the state of rock, etc.

As far as Rck is Dead, No Way!!! Maybe that brand is not going to keep going. That was coola long time ago. But no so much now. Rock like everything else moves around and up. I think it's hilarious that Marc doesn't find Gene Simmons very interesting doesn't really like him as a person and thinks he's cynical and very out of touch.... actually we share the same opinion except for the fact that I've never met Gene Simmons. I think Gene is a little jealous because his time in the music business May be coming to an end, while bands like dirty honey are just starting out and it's their time to go out there show what they can do and prove that we all know rock is not dead!
