Considerations when building a diode laser enclosure

Thank you for sharing your ideas. I’m a retired dust / fume extraction engineer whose hobby is woodworking. I have just purchased a diode laser recently but have not used it yet. I am learning Lightburn and researching on enclosures for the unit and happened to come across your video. One of my main considerations was to concentrate the air extraction where it would be needed rather than just generally ventilating the enclosure. And your method fits what I’m looking for. My goal is to provide a downdraught inside the enclosure but to provide large enough openings to reduce the back pressure on the extraction fan. You have given me food for thought, thank you.

Great video and will be using some of your suggestions on building my table and enclosure here soon. I just want to point out to people that are all about safety and fumes. That use of a shop vac with a Hepa filter will Not filter fumes. Hepa filters are made to filter particulates, even microscopic particulates. So what happens is it filters the dust and debris. The fumes which are vapors pass through the filter and get blown out back into your shop through the motor. You need a vapor filter to filter the fumes. A Hepa filter will not filter vapors and a Vapor filter will not filter particulates. You need a system that can do both, or something to catch the particulates and blows the vapor out of your room though a dryer vent and out of the house or garage.

My shop vac is outside the building and pulls the fumes outside. Although not ideal, it does remove air from the work area.I remove all filters and just use it as an air evacuation system. This was an old setup out of necessity at the time.

@@TheClackShack Yes I just wanted people to know about Hepa filters and Vapor filters if they care about fumes. I have in my garage a kitchen stove range hood that installed for spray panting that vents to the outside. Im going to hook my enclosure up to a dust deputy cyclone then hook the cyclone into the kitchen range hood. The cyclone should catch some of the particles so its not going through the motor of the range hood.

I bought the ATOMSTACK A20 Pro Laser Engraver and your videos have helped me dial it in. Still a large learning curve with Lightburn but I'm getting there. Doing a lot of ceramic tile engraving with Titanium Dioxide. Had a big order for a biker poker run. Made over 300 bucks doing some work for them. Keep up the good tutorials.

OK, Master Clack - first off, your video "Considerations when building a diode laser enclosure " is Perfect for what I need today as I am going forward building an enclosure for my new Falcon 2. Not only am I building an enclosure but I am also adding more ventilation - almost 300 cfm - as well as connecting to my air compressor. My question today is at time stamp 5:38 you were showing us the material BELOW the honeycomb that has the welding magnets spacing the Honeycomb. What is that material??? Thanks for your time. Lowell

For that budget, you are gonna wanna look at 20 watt or lower machines. Atomstack, Acmer and Longer are good brands in that range.

Yes, I have moved over to 4 or 6 inch fans because they are much quieter. All venting needs to go outside.
