I've played the Sega Genesis version many times. I wanted to like the SNES version but I didn't like how it plays. To be fair, I don't hate it. I just don't care for that version. Maybe it's my nostalgia getting me. Sega will be my choice for AAAHH!! Real Monsters.

@@Arjay82 Man, if you mention how bad James has gotten you get the most toxic people replying to you. A lot of them even make excuses for the plagiarism last year (and the year before). It's come to light that Mike Matei even wrote some classic AVGN episodes where he was only credited as "Help." I uses to love James but I definitely look at him in a different light now, it's clear that he doesn't really care for video games besides the titles he played as a kid that he's nostalgic for. I think the guy is depressed and I hope he gets out of his rut but it's no excuse for f***king over his friends, having others write the episodes that he takes credit for. It's sad that I had to unsubscribe because it was the first channel I ever subscribed to.

Graphics: Cropped screan isn't much to complain about. Both have exclusive animations. Tie. Presentation: Sega seems to have a slight edge. Sega. Sound: SNES does have some mixed sounds, but still has more sounds. Nintendo. Gameplay: Nice that Sega does make you lose health by simply falling. However, SNES has far better controls. Nintendo. Nintendo wins this one with a slight edge. Next game is True Lies. Great AVGN Cameo!

Regardless of which console you play it on, 'Aaahh!!! Real Monsters' is a fun and polished licensed game. It could have used a few design tweaks to make the one sitting playthrough more purposeful but on the whole it was the first good Nickelodeon game since the Ren & Stimpy games on Mega Drive and Game Gear. Also neat it was the first Klasky Csupo programme to get a game and not 'Rugrats'.

@Ratchet the Rat96 Paramount Pictures planned to make a film adaptation of the series after the success of the first Rugrats movie, but cancelled it out of fear that the movie would be too dark for kids. Pixar did come up with a movie with a similar concept to the show, though.

@@FlyingDuckMan360 I'm aware of that. If I worked at Paramount, Nickelodeon, and Klasky Csupo, I would've come up with a plot for the movie. The movie would be that its nearing graduation and the monsters have one final assignment (and its quite the toughest), scare the pants out of humans at a monster convention. Little did they know, that this was a setup by Simon and his gang of monster hunters. And so it's up to Oblina, Krumm, and Ickis to save their friends and prove that they are REAL monsters. It would serve as a series finale, where Ickis and his friends finally graduate from Monster Academy and prove to Gromble that they're the scariest monsters he's ever seen. Though they don't go off on their own, they became more of a family of "AAAHH!! Real monsters!!".

For my personal opinion, I prefer the Sega Genesis version. Even if I have to hold down the scare button and the up or down buttons to switch a character or do a move, I'm use to it. And I like how they use the same roar sound for the monsters in different pitches.

This was a great choice for a Halloween episode! Man, no one talks about Ahhh!!! Real Monsters much at all; it was cool to see you guys shine a light on this one. Game looks cool, honestly. Kinda reminds me of Lost Vikings a bit. Also, love the twist ending there. NOTHING's more frightening this Halloween than being stuck only having non-alcoholic beer, lol 😆 I'd love to see you guys compare Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past to Sega's Ragnacenty/Crusader of Centy. First off, I love those non-direct comparisons every once in awhile, like Phantasy Star vs Final Fantasy, and I think this would make for a good one. Second of all, if you've never _seen_ Ragnacenty, just have a look.... you'll see why you gotta compare it to Link to the Past _instantly,_ lol

That's due to the 68000 being easier and more flexible to work with. Besides, if we compare the size of the homebrew scene, then the ZX Spectrum and Atari 2600 are kicking all kinds of ass. And the Jaguar CD suddenly becomes a contender.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue for original SNES homebrew development is that it combines being difficult to code for with demanding a high amount of artistic skill to tap into its strengths. Anyone skilled enough to handle all that on their own is usually making money elsewhere. It's just more realistic to enhance/remix pre-existing titles or build an audio/visual tech demo that doesn't require a game engine.

@@vicentereisdacruz1915 Genesis is probably the easiest known console to program for. While Snes is the opposite, with an alien architecture. Genesis CPU was the same of Amiga computers and known to majority of programmers. While Snes CPU was used in 1 single Apple computer. Generally, what Genesis does with the CPU, Snes had it graphical and video tasks shared with multiple functions with the PPUs. Even Capcom didn't learn how to use Snes programming properly at the time. Today Snes programming seems odd to new developers.

@@3xperiment8 thanks for that information, I was looking enough to have both consoles when I was growing up. But never have to many games, just rented then. Today have only a Sega Genesis, AKA MegaDrive I'm life in Europe. And I from Brazil. In my childhood back home we have Tectoy and if wasn't then we never have any contact with official products from SEGA. The pirated software and games was much easier to find and even to rent. Today ever time there's a interested Homebrew game from the Genesis I'm back then up on Kickstarter...is expensive as was in the 90s ....but without this the console will be dead...to be in Europe help me to bought Paprium when was just a project Y... still think to finally buy another Super Nintendo....but really happy with my everdrive for my saga console....and exciting about new games for my old console. Hope when the Brazilian team finished the Mega Final Fight...we have a review in this cool Chanel Console War....pure nostalgia.....

Those sound effects on the snes are terrible. Muffled, very low quality and quiet which in some cases are barely audible. I say the MegaDrive wins by not being cropped.

I've only played the SNES version because I assumed it would have better graphics than the Genesis. But the Genesis title card screen looks much better with the character fully animated and the tapping foot. I mean, sure the projector screen flicker looks better on the SNES, but the character standing next to the screen looks so lifeless. In this case, I think the higher resolution wins over a few foreground effects. Graphics should've gone to Genesis, IMO. However, the SNES still wins this with the better music, gameplay, etc.

Thank you for finally doing Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. I was wondering when it would happen. Aaahh!!! Real Monsters was one of my favorite shows back in the 90's. Just thinking about it, it seems like only last night I was a kid watching it on Nickelodeon. TBH though, it tightens my gut that Super Nintendo won. I like the Sega version better because the action feels a bit smoother and not as loose IMO.
