Well people always seem to ignore or forget, the Genesis came out in 1989 the SNES didn't come out until 1991. So I would hope the SNES with newer hardware would be able to consistantly look better than the hardware from probably 1985-1987
@juststatedtheobvious9633 Жыл бұрын
The SNES struggles with an 8-bit databus, frequent lower resolution, and odd limitations like being limited to 2 sprite tile sizes or only 16k to control your sprites. (Sega can simply treat background tiles like sprites, if you want.) Many SNES games saved publishers money by booting the CPU into a lower clockspeed for slower ROMs. Both systems have unique strengths and weaknesses, which is why that console war was so close.
@WarioSaysSo Жыл бұрын
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 Indeed. Could likley be related to its earlier stage of system development when Nintendo tried to make the system backward compatible with the NES as they had to pick a less powerfull processor then in mind to fix that but since they of some reason did not solve it, they stuck with ehat they had picked.

Oh man! You mean you're FINALLY going to take on that 90's game classic "Gator Clock Boat?" Damn. Now THAT'S a deep dive. I LOVED that one when I was a kid, even though it took me years to get to that final boat level where you fight the alarm clock. Of course, I only ever had the stripped down Game Boy version. I hear the 16 bit ones are at least a little easier to control.

Amiga ports are always an interesting one. The Mega Drive uses the same 68000 CPU as the Amiga so you should in theory always get a more-or-less exact port fairly easily. The SNES version usually needs to be heavily reworked for a different CPU so you always get one of two things; either a very lazy, borked port or a really good one that really takes advantage of the hardware. With Amiga games, you always know that if the SNES version turns out best that means the studio making it really put some love and care into what they were doing.
@raziel8321 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the problem isn't really the CPU. Back then, Amiga games benefited greatly from the large memory and colors. The graphics were very large and detailed, often more animated, compared to typical console titles. But they are more static, because GPU limitation. Accordingly, loss of detail has been a real problem. Come from an Atari ST or Amiga with typical 1 to 4 MB Ram.... Not just the graphics but also the sound and especially samples. The consoles, in turn, had a much more specialized GPU features for dynamic sprite/bitmap content. The Amiga often had to implement these FX via software, blitter use and other "tricks". And this then had to be implemented on the console somehow. The Mega Drive was of course easier because parts of the code could be used. But a lot of the content itself still had to be changed. With the SNES it was the other way around. Less adjustment to the content, more to the code. However, the game code back then was nowhere near as complex as it was a few years later.

No Lemmings on your list? They need to do Lemmings as soon as possible. Aside from Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II this game was ported to just about everything back in the day and it sold millions of copies and I think I know already know what the results would be for a future episode.😊 Graphics: = Tie. Both the SNES and Genesis ports look the same. Presentation: Tie. Both games have little animated intros at the start and end of the game. Music And Sound: Tie. I believe this would be a tie as well as the SNES port has the better, cleaner sound effects and more of them, but the Mega Drive/Genesis has the much better sounding music that's smoother on the ears. The SNES soundtrack sounds like the band is playing in a galvanised tin shed. Gameplay: Mega Drive/Genesis as that port has 120 levels with 60 bonus levels to play while the SNES port only has 5 extra levels on top of the 120. Mega Drive/Genesis would just nudge it towards victory. First we just need two people to donate the cartridges for the show.

OMG! You actually followed my suggestion! After seeing Halloween Episodes about zombies, vampires and Frankenstein's Monster, I figured that "Wolfchild" would be a good game for an Episode about werewolves! I was a little worried that you wouldn't be able to do it for Halloween 2023 because of the break you took after the "Flashback" episode, because of the new baby. Thank you such much for getting it done for Halloween 2023! Anyway, the plot and sketches at the start and the end were alright. What I really loved was the coverage of the game itself. Loved what I saw and really felt satisfied by all the info you were giving! It also felt like a real competition to me. Like, not one-sided. Really got me wondering whether the SNES or Sega Genesis version would win! Y'know, seeing as both you and the AVGN have accumulated a lot of Halloween Episodes for your shows, I'd love to see the AVGN, preferably as his real self, James Rolfe, comment on your Halloween Episodes. I think he'd love 'em, or at least like 'em! Congrats on making another Halloween Episode! Bye!
