30-50 games that you will actually play each console generation is a healthy way to collect (especially if you wait for the $20 price point), and it can lead to a pretty cool collection of top-shelf games over time.
@Nicomanism3 жыл бұрын
It never makes sense that most collectors exceed 50 or more games ; and then he or she never actually plays all say 70 or 100 games . Collect games that contain high-replay value, quality-titles, and games that are worth the money. And yes 30-50 games is a healthy library than say 440 games.

Glad to see more people are starting to turn on Limited Run Games. They've oversaturated the hell out of the niche physical game market and love exploiting people's fear of missing out. They're at least handling the Switch better than the Vita, but I tapped out awhile ago. The last straw for me was when they were charging obscene amounts for Star Wars repro carts of $5 games packed with a bunch of collectors junk.
@trisonicbrandtech4 жыл бұрын
No, limited run games packages 99-cent eShop games for $35 on Switch, they are a devilish publisher.
@Daniel-it1dp4 жыл бұрын
I felt so burned on the quality of those Star Wars repro cart CEs they made. They were the cheapest quality and very shoddy quality control. I think the quality of their CEs has tanked over the last year from my personal experience with them.

@IGamingStation4 жыл бұрын
Let's not compare Atlus Games to shit companies like LRG and Super Rare Games (yes, there is a company like that). Atlus is a small company that actually translates quirky, weird games you would normally *NEVER* see in NA. However, because these games are weird Atlus knows they won't sell like hotcakes compared to the Uncharted, CoDs, and Mass Effects. Hence why production for Atlus games is so low, it isn't to create rarity. if anything, LRG is a huge offender of that putting out random numbers of a game just to market it as "rare". Plus, the artwork and time Atlus puts into their games makes owning them worth it.

My collection is now, finally narrowed down to just the GBA, DS, 3DS and Switch. I've been collecting for over 20 years now, so the backlog for a lot of my older systems was just getting to be overwhelming. I had to cut it down to the systems that I tend to play the most, and that's mostly Nintendo handhelds, nowadays. I just cut the rest of the collection down to a few nostalgic favorites, and I'll keep the systems so I can still toss in some of the classics👍

I found that over time, collecting games made me value each game less and less. I kept buying games and playing them for a few hours, only to drop them for whatever else catches my eye. I've started limiting my purchases as of late and setting rules. For instance, if I get a game, I need to either make a goal out of completing it, or get to a point where I have a good reason not to finish the game.

I find it really quite heartening that so many people are thinking for themselves and yet are on the same page about this ongoing issue. I really hope that these Limited Runs don't represent the future of physical collecting. It really does feel like the hobby has been hijacked by these opportunistic companies determined to exploit the collector's mindset. The fun has been taken out of it. The collector no longer really requires any specific knowledge, it is now merely a question of buying what these limited companies tell you to buy and when they tell you to buy it. It's a horrible practice and business model of artificial rarity, as opposed to the more natural occurring rarity which would occur gradually over a period of time. And not a legitimate collecting model that I recognise. What is worse is that some of these companies actually feel that they are the heroes, doing us all a great favour, out of the kindness of their hearts, releasing dozens of e-shop type games physically per month, which are mostly often poor psuedo ironic 'retro' games. And then there are those comapnies who have the nerve to claim to be archivists of games by giving games physicality. Except of course they frequently re-release games that already exist physically and have done for years, Psychonauts etc, or they will even just produce 'repro's' of games, Star Wars etc. That is not 'preservation', it's just a cynical and hypocritical form of cashing in, exploiting and ultimately betraying the hobby and the collectors.

I agree with the Saturn stuff. It’s even gotten so bad that Japanese import rpgs are even getting expensive. They used to be the most dirt cheap because you needed to know Japanese to play them but now people who aren’t even able to play the game they just bought will pay like $40.

stopped collecting back when the ps4 just came out..felt like I already achieved my goal of collecting on the 360/ps3/wii/psp/etc. now I no longer have my collection( since I realize its just collecting dust and feel bad that all those games will never going to be played again) nowadays I just rent/buy(cheaply on PC) them that interest me and move on. I honestly am soo done with the toxic collection aspect of people upping the price...another reason why I lost interest in collecting is because Nintendo's Super Smash Wii U release with the Wii u GameCube port connection being sold out for its only purpose to be resale for higher margin is what got me out of it

@eiadtarabulsi4 жыл бұрын
The legend of KZbin is back and making videos once again. Pete, you've been sorely missed. Welcome back my friend. Happy New Year by the way. Having said that, the video game collector's market is a difficult one to get into, in particular when it comes to collecting rare and expensive titles. Limited edition versions don't exactly help matters. A lot of retro consoles are difficult to collect for due to how pricey the games are. The Sega Saturn, Panasonic 3DO, Neo Geo AES, N64, SNES, GBA are just a few examples. Gamecube, Atari Jaguar, TurboGrafx-16, NES and certain PS2 releases are quite pricey. Even certain PS3 games are hard to find as well. Of course, another major issue is in regards to limited edition releases, which have around 1,000 copies, which I believe is the minimum print run. It could possibly be 500 copies. There are certain people who will take advantage of the situation by purchasing 3-5 copies. By that point, the games are hard to find. They'll keep one or two copies for themselves and then they'll sell the remaining copies for 2-3 times as much as what they originally sold for. Gaming is a fun and enjoyable hobby. Its something that a lot of people grew up with then they were kids. Nostalgia is a big part of the hobby and understandably so. Unfortunately, the nostalgia and fun of playing video games and the hobby of collecting them is being ruined due to the aforementioned scalpers. Then again, there are a lot of video games out there that are legitimately rare and hard to find. Either way, its difficult to get onboard. Otherwise, thanks once again Pete for the great video. Welcome back. Its good to see you again!

CELESTE was my physical to digital revelation. I waited so long for Celeste to come out as a physical release that I desisted after waiting almost one year and bought the digital at a discount. Months later the physical release was announced at around 6 to 7 times more expensive than the digital. On the other hand, Axiom Verge has a charity donation for the developer's children from buying the physical release. That time it even felt better to spend more on the physical release. I buy physical whenever is cheaper than the digital version

Stopped collecting about every home console system. I completely sold off my Famicom/NES stuff, SNES, SMS, Saturn etc. I kept the games I loved and that I had the most nostalgia for on my Playstation systems and Dreamcast. Prices were getting out of hand (especially Saturn) and I also fell back in love with Sony and Nintendo's portables. Vita is the only system I guess I'd consider myself a "collector" for. Those physical limited print games, and import Asia/Europe region English releases really did start to kill the fun. So stressful and overwhelming after a point. Some say it was a necessary evil, but now there seems to be new releases every week for the home consoles. Thankfully there are only about 6 physical print ESRB rated Vita carts that are set to come out. I can't wait to get back to completely casual collecting. Still I've got to say for the indie games that came out for the Vita I enjoyed most of them and found very little I'd classify as shovelware. Despite all the stress I'm glad I stuck with Vita.
