I was working as a QS for 5-6 years in Construction and Interior Design Decoration Fields. Before becoming as a QS, I ever wanted to work as a Site Engineer. Chances gave me as a QS only. As a QS, I knew site experiences are important for estimate and cost control. So I hope your channel might give me as a virtual Site engineer experience. I believe it will help me to my future career.
@SITENG2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you won't go on site this channel will definitely help you, as you will see how the works are looking. Try to go on site anyways as on some jobs there are QS in the site office so this way you could also see the site and that would be the best👍👍

I'm am going to go through all of your videos -1st to most recent. My experience: • 2 years' setting out, engineering and management experience on £30-100m Reinforced Concrete (RC) residential and commercial projects over the UK (schools, hotels, and accommodation) - sub-structure & super-structure. • 2.5 years’ experience surveying on £30-170m projects in various sectors (residential, commercial and railway). • 2 year’s experience engineering/managing pre-cast concrete unit production. • 1 year establishing control networks on the railway, monitoring and doing as-builts. I'm in precast concrete manufacturing at the moment, but I want to get into residential housing and back onsite doing groundworks and drainage et cetera which my experience lacks. I have experience with bored piles in Glasgow, but my site engineering experience is mainly on superstructures. I have limited experience in demolition. I've experience robotic and hydro demolition. Your videos will be good to learn and refresh from.

Hi Calum! With your experience there won't be a problem to get to residential. You will quickly learn all these 😁 Hope the vids will help you and let us know here how it's going 💪

Hello , I’m looking for some advice . Currently I’m 19 and a full time bricklayer on site with all c and above GCSEs and looking to get into building surveying or setting out . I was just wondering how you would get into setting out courses and which one is the best to do .
@morganwilliams96354 жыл бұрын
I want to get into building surveying, but also worked with a surveyor who would set out buildings , is this what setting out engineer is
@SITENG4 жыл бұрын
Hi Morgan! The best for you would be finding a job as a chainman/engineer's assistant and you don't really need a course for that. Try to speak with engineers on your site if it's possible. There is always need for young, willing to learn people, especially if they have site experience already. Stay in touch, when I am back in UK I'll try to help you.

Hello Siteng, I am a groundworker and I'm looking at starting a career in setting out. I have come across schools offering 2 weeks intensive courses for setting out. Is it OK to start off from there or I need to go back to school to start all over again. Thanks
@SITENG4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! I wouldn't go back to school to start again. You have site experience and that's great. The best for you would be to start as a junior /assistant engineer now if you can, as this will be better than any course unless your employer requires some kind of 'paper'. When you start and you like it, than you can go back to school while working as some companies provide this.

It is hard with holding MSc in civil engineering to practice as setting out engineering. Hope to see UK make it Mandatory to have minimum bachelor degree to practice as Engineer than we can have decent job as right now our positions goes to those who are in interest of PM or other party etc and no law at the moment to back up and protect licensed Engineer in UK so lots taking advantages to abuse the title of Engineer
@SITENG4 жыл бұрын
Hi David! Sorry for late answer. That was surprise to me that everyone can work as an engineer here in UK. This gives huge opportunity for all people interested in construction. In great part my channel is designed for those people and I always say that all you guys should try and take the opportunity as elsewhere there is no chance to work as an engineer without a degree. UK gives you a great opportunity to work first and than you can always work on your degree if you like it :)
@TheMrasimqureshi3 жыл бұрын
David, I read you reply with interest and was surprised to learn as a holder of second degree of MSc in Civil Eng. that you are unaware that people working in the construction industry are actually Engineering Technician who do all the main setting out and the technical work to get the project off the ground to completion. The title of an Engineer is a misnomer as the actual Engineer is a designer of the project. The Site Engineer is the convertor of the design from the design set by the Engineer to its fruition which is the exact replica of the designed product. Without the Site Engineer then the actual designer will be setting out his own work to bring it to full completion and this is never ever going to happen in real life. The Site Engineer is not the designer but he has to be able to read and work from the set of instructions given by the designer to create the building or road as he had intended it in the first place. I am MICE with the grade of Engineering Technician after my name and I am a senior Engineer on the site and the controller of the main work in progress. In my opinion there is very little difference in the two disciple of Engineering as the one cannot do without the other. But some body has to design while another Engineer has to bring the design to completion. If you ask the ordinary Joe Public then the person on the site is the real Engineer even though he did not design the project. Thus you have a Design Engineer and a Professional Site Engineer who are both working towards the same goal. Thus the pressure on the Design Engineer to create a working design which is possible to build on site. The Institution of Civil Engineer in London has recognised the work of Non-designing Engineer who have contributed just as much as the actual Design Engineer to bring the design to a successful conclusion and these people are graded as Engineering Technician who are as important as the Designed Engineer in the industry. Greg, of this channel, is a professional Site Engineer, just as I am, but it does not mean that we have to design the whole effing thing from the scratch and then build it to satisfy it. Please see what I am trying to message you. I know many Experienced Site Engineer who can transform the site into a brilliant working platform to complete the project on time and follow everything to the latter as per the designed specification. With the latest smart surveying equipment and setting-out tools that the life is made absolutely sweet for the Site Engineer to carry out his work very accurately and in time. The latest Leica equipment and all the GPSs are there to help you to achieve the final aim. The introduction of the laser in construction is almost god sent as it has made life so much different and easy on site to help the Engineer. In the drawing office, the Designer is drawing everything on Auto Cad, which was unheard of thirty years ago but this is how designing is done nowadays. In fact, the Site Engineer is more aware of what is required on suite then the designer himself. They both work in tandem to do the same job. You are either a designer in the office or the site man on the site doing the same thing. I am degree educated Engineer on site but I am fine working on the site and it does not diminish my education and the responsibility into the ground. In fact, I have to be super alert of anything the designer has done which is not working on site and it is my duty to convey the message to him about it as soon as possible before the work comes to a halt. You need your academic qualification to be up to scratch to design your project but you need a lot of hard work to work on site plus your knowledge to bring to the fruition of the design to a completion. Just remember that the Site Engineer is not the designer of the project. I rest my case here.
