The trend of Nepalese students going abroad has significantly increased over the last decade. In the financial year 2068-2069, about 10,000 Nepali students used to go abroad, now, more than one lakh students go abroad every year. Approximately 3,000 education consultancies across the country are affiliated with the Nepal Educational Consultancy Association (NECAN). Besides those not affiliated with NECAN, it is estimated that there is an equal number of consultancies.
According to the Educational Counseling Services and Language Teaching Guideline of 2073, the primary role of these institutions is to provide the necessary counseling to students who wish to study at home and abroad, assisting them in selecting subjects, levels, educational institutions, and enrollment. Additionally, they provide language training and other preparations, charging a fixed fee for these services. However, contrary to the guidelines, they have been deducting the cost of airfare from the students' documentation.

You made a video on this topic to create awarness among people. That is good but showing only negative aspect that too with superficial research is not good. 1. IELTS/PTE/TOEFL preparation class is a service to a student like any other service. Once you provide service taking some charges of it is not bad. If some consultancy are taking high fees, students have full freedom to choose another one with low and affordable fees. Nobody force them to choose expensive one. It also depends on the quality of instructor and resources. 2. Nobody force any student to apply through consultancy. Many universities encourage student to apply on their own. If student is not capable to apply on their own and ask for support then it is absolutely OK to charge for it. Again if student feel like somebody is charging them more go for another one. They have choices in every decision they take. 3. I completely agree that consultancy should tell or encourage students to get some skills that will help them in abroad to get a job. It is responsibility of student as well to do proper research about the country, city, university, courses before deciding. It is not that difficult in today's world where you can get any information in a single click. 4. Consultancy is a business like any other business. It is there right to advertise their business and promote their company. Alcohol and tobacco business also advertise their business it is up-to a people to decide whether to consume it or not. 5. In any business, investor first analyze market, growth opportunity and ultimately money he/she can earn from their investment. If consultancy are earning more then whats the problem? They have invested their money, time, providing job opportunities for many and paying taxes whats the problem in it. If you have problem with somebody earning more then its your incompetence, work on your skills first before criticizing others. 6. Some students will definitely find it difficult abroad and struggle, as their sole purpose is to earn rather than study that too without any skills and exposure. Finding jobs abroad is competitive they should also understand that as well. So they should work on training or developing skills which could make them employable abroad. Their are some students who have greatly improved their livings, did great and helped their parents from financial burden. Some students got excellent score and get recognition on national and international level. Showing only students struggling abroad is your personal propaganda. Every aspect has positive and negative. I am glad you make a video on the topic to create awareness. But my suggestion is try to be a neutral and show both perspective with in-depth research. It is up-to the viewers and audience to decide after watching your video to recognize what is good or bad. Forcing your own one sided narrative specially when people are following you is not good.

Thank you for your feedback. The primary objective of education consultancy is to provide counselling to students. According to the provisions made by the government, they can also charge fees for counselling and language training. We have no questions on this. But, the main concern is even if they could only provide good counselling to the students who are going abroad from Nepal with great ambitions would not have to suffer from depression and anxiety. When looking at the advertisements on social media, our question is why they are presenting themselves less as consultants and more as manpower. Many consultancies have been applying for students' studies to the university where they have a link, rather than considering the university that is most suitable for the student. In a business context, is it acceptable to only focus on one's profit rather than understanding the needs of the students? In the video, we have criticized not only the consultancies but also the government because the main responsibility for regulation and monitoring lies with the government. However, the government has not been able to pay attention to these issues. The role of the student should also be questioned. However, in a single video, everything cannot be covered, so it seems other aspects are missing. We will cover these missing topics in the coming days. This video primarily focuses on the type of consultancy that is ready to do anything in the name of earning money. Therefore, we always have respect for a consultancy that carries out its responsibilities and maintains professional dignity.

@@10xtnepal Is it acceptable to only focus on one's profit rather than understanding the needs of the students? ------ Again consultancy isn't not-for-profit organization, they are private companies and definitely they will seek to earn maximum profit they could possibly earn. I am not defending consultancy and I somewhat agree that it is wrong from consultancy side as well, but if some consultancy is forcing student to apply for a particular university or college and if student don't want to apply to that university, he/she can clearly object, if student himself or herself object to apply to that university, what power does consultancy have against the will of a student? As you clearly understood and mentioned in your response that this is an issue from consultancy, government and somewhat ignorance or over dependence of student as well. As a regular viewer of your content, I just wish to give you a feedback to make your content more neutral. If you had also highlighted student side along with the consultancy and government that would have been more helpful to students to realize where they are failing or if you wish to cover that in next part of video, mentioning that in your first video would have given viewer an idea that oh ok this is not a full picture there are other side to it. Also, it would have given student who wish to apply abroad in the future a gentle reminder of their role and a way to safeguard themself from struggling abroad with proper prior research. I agree with it. I myself am abroad as a student and I research about my college I was applying into, like location, period of establishment and comments under their website. I agree to the fact that consultancy tries their best to manipulate the applicants but as I’ve seen and notice the minimum age to complete 12 are around 17,18 &19, so at these age people are capable to understand and express themselves. And the main point here is it’s our responsibility to do research by ourselves rather than trusting others completely cause we’ve right to decide, agree and disagree, no one can force if one don’t like

I completely agree with you. When I took IELTS classes at a consultancy in Kathmandu, they insisted that I apply to specific colleges they had connections with. However, when I informed them that I had planned on applying to another university that offered better opportunities, they were unhappy but couldn't stop me. I chose to only take IELTS and SAT classes from that consultancy, using it as a resource rather than relying on it entirely and only paying them the standard fee that was charged by every other similar institution for the standardized tests. Paying for the IELTS classes is similar to paying for the preparation classes students take for MBBS or Engineering after passing +2, the fees vary according to the institution, they are charging according to their reputation and standards, not rigging us entirely as mentioned in the video above. This experience motivated me to conduct my research beforehand, and I was well-prepared for what lay ahead. Consultancies should be seen as a pathway to your goal, not the entire journey. Students must proactively research before and during the application process, looking out for themselves. I also have seen other students who relied entirely on the consultancy's advice and didn't know what they wanted to do, they only had a goal to get out as soon as possible and faced difficulties later on because they didn't fully understand what they were getting themselves into.

But the sad thing is even if we don't put any agent to our application we have to pay the same amount of tuition fees to college which will normally come to agent as commission. If the colleges who accepts international students will give the amount back to student who was processing by themselves then the students will be encouraged to process for themselves more.
