Just did a quick search... Prior to coming on the show in 2011, the bride had already lost 30 pounds as a result of weight loss surgery . Apparently she went on to lose another 70 pounds prior to the wedding. Believe it or not, I found one tiny little wedding pic, and I think she actually wore the dress she chose (altered, of course).

Jo and Al may have not even had the store when this was filmed, in the early 2000's. Look at Randy's hair. It has gone considerably grey since then. And do you honestly think that a bride in the US has to go across the Atlantic to find at least one bridal salon that caters to the plus-size bride? You seem to have not any confidence in the US. And lots of plus-sized brides who have lived in the US have somehow found dresses for them. The world exists outside of TV.

Also they can't stock what the designers don't make. As a big girl I think most of us have said NO BIG FLOWERS and yet big flowers are STILL a thing since I was a child and Im get close to 60. So sometimes it's not the stores but that's what the designers give them.

Seriously. not one of the dresses she came out in was flattering for her figure. I hope this beautiful bride found something else/had other options not shown in this clip. Also I'd think a consultant who knew even the first thing about assisting a bride with a too-small sample wouldn't let the client pick a style they weren't positive was available in the correct size. All the same, congrats to the bride and I hope she's doing well.

What a lovely and generous friend to pay for the dress! And yes I agree that Kleinfeld is rubbish in providing the experience and selection of dresses that all plus-sized brides should enjoy, regardless of size. Jo & Al are amazing ... and they run a small boutique in the UK. Kleinfelds like to boast the have "the largest selection of wedding dresses in the world." If that is true, then extra shame on them. The average dress size of women in the US is somewhere between 16 and 18 (taking into account that retailers keep on changing the numbers on garments so that women 'feel better'). Most women are far away from 4 or 6. Kleinfelds should really be mortified at their failure to get it so wrong for plus-sized brides. Every bride wants to feel special, not only on the day, but through the entire experience of getting engaged and doing all of the preparation. The brides and their loved ones walking through a bridal boutique, should only have a very positive experience.

Jo ad Al have a specialty plus size store. They spend all their time looking for designers that cater to plus size women. Most of the clients at Klienfields are wealthy young women- the demographic most likely to be into all the health things- in one of the most in vogue cities in the world no less. They aren't going to stock lots of plus size dresses when they will be hard to sell. I though the dress she picked was beautiful and very flattering and Vera was lovey trying to help her out

Firstly these are older episodes, one can see that Randy's hair still had color whereas his hair right now has gone considerably grey. Also it is mentioned in some episodes of this season and its spin off that back then there are only a few designers that would make dresses for their plus sized brides. They were one of the few who do cater to ot but only limited as not all designers do for auch brides. Secondly, if you have been watching the newer seasons, they have more dresses that cater the needs of plus sized brides. And third, you can't make a bride travel all the way to Britain just to by a dress unless said bride is super rich and can afford to so.

For what it’s worth: all of my aunts (my mom’s sisters) had beautiful dresses they loved, and they were ALL plus-sized brides! While i was shopping for mine just last week at David’s Bridal, I actually saw so many plus-size designs, including on display on mannequins. I’m not plus-sized myself, but selections have really changed! It’s certainly not perfect, but please think of your dress as something special that will eventually be made to fit YOU!

I love all the comments mentioning how every plus-sized bride should go to Jo and Al's in the UK. They are great but they are across the Atlantic ocean! This was a beautiful choice. What a stressful situation, though. The consultant knows her stuff and knowing she'd have a plus sized bride as a client she should have looked into those kinds of things before the appointment. I do think that all the consultants need to attend a training about catering to plus size brides, tall brides, brides who might have apple shapes or brides who want different coloured dresses/looks. I think/hope that many designers are including larger sizes in their dress range.

And this a really old episode, before many salons (and designers) started targeting plus-size markets. It has gotten a lot better since the early 2000's when this was filmed. I don't understand why you don't think that there are perfectly competent plus-size, bridal stores in the US. Do you really think that these few bridal salons we see on SYTTD are the only ones on the world?

Well... The Honorary Brides Made is paying 5K for a dress that doesn't currently fit the bride. That does not include all the alterations, etc. Lemony Snicket's! What a series of unfortunate events. Was there a follow-up to this? Was she able to get into the dress for her wedding? Did she lose the weight? Were the alterations made. Did the sales person lose her job for making such a huge mistake in such a prestigious salon??? This place just does not cater to plus sized brides. Their dresses are not flattering to the full sized figure. I think the plus sized brides would be better off to have their dress custom made and could do it for a lot less. I sure hope the beautiful bride wound up with a very happy day and Best Wishes to her.

Strapless gowns are best for smaller-chested women or women who are not plus-sized. The fact is, if you're plus-sized it's very likely that your "girls" are going to be on the larger side as well, so if you choose a strapless gown, in order to keep the girls in their place, you have to go with a tight strapless bra which effectively pushes your girls up to your neck making you look larger. It's just not flattering, and you're gonna spend the entire wedding uncomfortable and then your self-esteem issues kick in and you wonder if the people are just being polite when they say something nice about how you look. If you're plus-sized, try something more classic than something you've seen on smaller brides just because THEY fit the strapless option. This is in no way meant to be offensive to anyone, and without a doubt, go with what makes you feel comfortable. This was meant only as a thinking-outside-the-box suggestion.

I am an older plus sized woman, and I absolutely hate when they put plus sized women in strapless dresses. The only exception is if the bride carries the bulk of her weight on the bottom, think pear shaped. Has anyone else noticed how these strapless dresses push all the back fat up and over the back of the dress? It almost makes the bride look as if she has breasts on her back, or just a huge roll of fat. I am not trying to body shame anyone, and do not ever want to hurt any person. I am just saying to please look in a mirror at how the dress looks from behind.

I tend to agree with you. Big breasted women cannot pull off strapless. There's always a gap in between the top of the dress and the boobs because there's no straps to hold up the dress and if you try to tighten up the chest part it just squishes everything. Big chested brides need straps.

i look hideous in strapless as I have slightly broader shoulders and i am not plus size. I would much rather the straps as it is more comfortable. I would feel so uncomfortable pulling up my boobs all the time as I do have bigger breasts. The third dress was nice if it didn't have so much going on at the bottom back back but I would have picked one with sleeves.

the only mistake the sales person made was making sure the dress came in her size from the manufacture. Klienfields does not make this dress the designer does. But I do agree with the point that they only care about brides who are slimmer.

That means most people in the United States who would be shopping for a wedding dress would be fitting into a size 22 to 24 bridal. You can think what you want about people's sizes and how that relates to their worth. But I believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful on their wedding day and a bridal shop that is supposed to be one of the best in the world should Carry sizes that reflect the population. I am short (5'2) and a 14-18 in regular clothes depending on how they are cut, brand, etc so I would probably be a 20-24 in wedding gowns and for multiple reasons including modesty I would not be looking for strapless or tight mermaid styles; definitely something with a higher neckline and at least elbow length sleeves, no low back even though most of my problem is in the stomach area.

@@pamfink4052 I have sewn for a woman your height but even larger with a stomach problem area as well. Get an empire waistline (it fits under the bust) with a full skirt. The empire waist can accentuate the bust--pad your bustline if you dare--and the fabric underneath can cover the abdomen. I think it's a romantic look. Don't go cheap on the material. No polyester nor nylon for you! Buy a silk gown. It pays. Good luck!

I remember Christy well because on a later episode when the dress has arrived and she comes back for her fitting appointment, she has lost so much weight that the dress actually needs to be taken in! I was really happy for her but the dress wound up being way too large for her and needed considerable alterations to make it fit her properly.

Most of these lazy land whales need to go on diets and exercise programs. In general, women weren't fat years ago. They took pride in having trim figures. High end stores are mainly frequented by middle/upper class women and that's an incredibly health conscious, image conscious and health educated demographic. Obesity levels are just not high enough to financially warrant having a huge selection of dresses for that kind of niche
