Hi Victoria, I completed my coding course right when the pandemic hit. Finished then they weren’t doing in person or on line testing. Do you recommend taking the course over or getting the review and practice exams from AAPC. I been in healthcare for 25 plus years!

I just took the exam yesterday, and did it a LOT faster than I thought. All my previous tests and practice tests took nearly the full time, but I did it last night in 3 hours and 15 minutes. I thought the 10 case studies at the end would take most time, but half of them ONLY asked for the E/M code, which I least comprehend, so process of elimination was null. I think I did alright, but I either passed well, or I missed passing by 1 or 2 points. I really don't know how I feel about it lol!!

@ContempoCoding I'd say it was pretty on par! I didn't have time to take another practice exam I had access to, but I wish I had. Still, I got my results, and I PASSED!

I took my CPC exam on Monday 12/9. I unfortunately got a 65% but it only took 2 hours to find out after I finished taking the exam. Overall my brain was mush after taking it 😂

I took my first attempt last night. It took me 3 hours and I thought about using my spare time to check my answers, but my brain was so fried.

I just passed the CBCS from NHA. Do you how different the CPC is from the CBCS with exception of Billing?

The CPC is more focused on coding, with an in-depth emphasis on ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS, along with coding guidelines and compliance. While CBCS covers billing processes, the CPC dives much deeper into the coding side, which makes it more comprehensive for medical coding roles.

So, I just passed and received my Recognition of Completion for Prof Medical Billing and Coding program course. To the qstn: I have '23 books. I'm considering taking a breather here and not take the CPC cert exam within a 6 mos period inside of '25. Will the '23 ICD-10 books still okay? or do I need to "bleep-it-up" and buy '25 books... ?

Per the AAPC website: - You may choose to utilize books from the preceding year, the current year, or a combination or both; however, only one copy of each book is allowed. - Books older than one year are are NOT allowed for exam use. www.aapc.com/support/certification-exams/which-years-books-should-i-use

While every person’s experience can vary, following the steps I outlined will definitely increase your likelihood of success. Using the official AAPC resources, practicing with timed exams, and focusing on areas where you feel less confident are all strategies that have worked for many people. Of course, your dedication and effort play a big role too!

Hi victoria. i work in med billing now w no cert. i want to get into clinical trial billing, leaning towards cpb/cpc cert combo. would like your insight if that is a good choice path. thank you for your videos.

I'm scheduled for my second attempt at the cpc exam in March. I only have the 2023 books. Will I need to purchase the 2025 books for my second attempt?

I would. Or get 2024 books. You can only use the books published the year you take the exam or the year prior. You would not be allowed to use your 2023 books in 2025.

You are only permitted to use the current year's books or one year's prior. So in 2025 you can only use 2025 or 2024 books. www.aapc.com/support/books/what-years-books-should-i-use " Since the code sets for each coding book are updated every year, it’s essential for coders to have the current year’s books/manuals to ensure accurate performance. Reporting wrong codes can lead to denied claim submissions and substantial penalization. It’s very important to get an education on the annual code set updates and to obtain new code books every year. All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets. It is strongly suggested you use the current year’s books. AAPC exams are updated every January for the new code sets. You may choose to utilize books from the preceding year, the current year, or a combination or both; however, only one copy of each book is allowed. Books older than one year are are NOT allowed for exam use. Upcoming year’s books are NOT allowed for exam use. Examinees using their second attempt in the next calendar year, will not be permitted to take the previous year's exam. Please review the allowed reference materials for a full list that applies to your certification exam.."
