Certain people in the government and who spend gobs of money for government officials are global warming deniers or just don't care. They will want to gut or close any agency that brings awareness to something that impacts their ability to make and hoard money, at everyone else's expense.

Mike I was wondering if you were going to make any statements about the clear value of the NWS and NOAA. Without getting too political I’m very worried about the clear and focused policy to defund, degrade, and privatize those services.
@abellawindowcleaning152814 күн бұрын
Or maybe hold at hope that they could be improved? Holding the possibility that fresh eyes could reduce cost and offer a better solution? Look at the success of the folks launching rockets compared to the national efforts.
@andysf948414 күн бұрын
@@abellawindowcleaning1528 apples and oranges. One is a government agency that provides free weather forecasts for the public where launching rockets is a means to allow another government agency to continue operating because of consistent budget cuts over the past several decades. It’s very likely, the NWS will be shut down and weather forecasts will only be available to those who can afford it.
@RadicalEarth13 күн бұрын
@@abellawindowcleaning1528 I've a been a professional first responsder in the outdoors for 30 years, and NOAA and NWS are an example of great government. Their forecasts , discussions, alerts, total body of work are literally a matter of life and death. Not perfect, but nothing is, including SpaceX. Defunding the National Weather Service when one considers the great results of NWS, presents the optics of poitical ideology soley opposed to all government, and not one based on merit. Private enterprise entering the mix of NWS is not inherintly bad, but defunding NWS and NOAA is a terrible idea for first responder, public safety and the common good.

Michael WELL DONE with your National Weather Service shout out. Critical resource. In my life I've been a hotshot and smokejumper (10 years). Avalanche Center travel partner volunteer (13 years). Ski patrol (8 years). Search and Rescue (5 years). Not to mention all my outdoor/backcountry recreation on our national public lands. I've been fully geeking out on your YT channel since I found you recently, LOVE IT (my only YT subscription) ....but my local NOAA forecasts, DISCUSSIONS, and alerts have been and hopefully will remain to be a fantastic and fundamentally important public resource. You are right, NOAA et al is where everyone else gets their wx data to monetize (that's ok to a point imo), and that needs to be understood and known. Thank you!

It occurs to me that a good way to effectively advertise this, and add to your show, might be to check several of these situated at various selected areas around the state, in real time. Just a thought.

@@PacificNorthwestWeather Lets see what happens. I am part of a government function, and (imo) we have an appreciable amount of waste in how we are funded and managed. I see much more waste in separate systems that we interact with. It becomes entrenched and seemingly unchangeable. Agendas (mostly hidden) got us here. We can't afford to keep doing what we are doing. For everyones sake, we need revamping.

I expect the National Weather Service will be privatized, that is to say: sold to a billionaire. This will happen with a lot of Government services, including Social Security and Medicare, and probably the FAA, SEC, and so on. Its happened before. The usual screenplay is that the Big Business will squeeze every drop of cash out of the service while cutting services, and then toss it back to the Government. Happens quite often with Public Transportation, bus-lines, trains, etc. The gov't takes over the Service and fixes it. I'm thinking that won't happen this time around. This time the oligarchs want people to go without- the billionaires don't "believe" in government serving the People.
