The late Chris Williams on drums. Severely underrated, even just demos, the guy was good.
@michaelr.48785 жыл бұрын
Cool. Thanks for the info. I came here to ask if it was Williams or Christy playing on this demo. I knew that Richard Christy joined in 1997..but also that Chris Williams started the year 1997 in the group. So I didn't know which guy it was. It is just a fairly lo-fi demo..so a lot of the distinguishing habits and go-to fills that you can usually use to tell drummers a part are not present here. The way I see Death and Control Denied is that if Chuck deemed a musician to be good enough to play with him, then he is a top notch player. In my opinion as someone who has played guitar, piano and bass for 25 years, Bobby Koelble is the best player Chuck ever had in the band (player, as in of all of the musicians..regardless of instruments). His educational pedigree alone could tell you that. Lots of good players teach guitar lessons. But he is a university professor. hehe Just imagine being an 18 year old guitar student walking into your first music class in your first year of university and you see that your teacher is Bobby Koelble from Death. It would be insane.
@morganfarlie5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelr.4878 I did not know this information about Bobby! This explains why I was SO incredibly impressed with Koelble when he played with Death DTA in 2014 at my local haunt on the 13th anniversary of Chuck's Death. MAN I love learning more and more about Death/Control Denied/Chuck.
@michaelr.48785 жыл бұрын
@@morganfarlie Ya dude, a lot of people don't know about his legit jazz background or his education and job. A working jazz musician who loves metal. Along with teaching and gigging, you can also hire him for wedding and stuff like that. I found the DTA lineup with him, Hoglan and Steve D. to be the best by a mile.

From the 2011 remaster liner notes by Shannon Hamm: "At the end of 1995, after Death had completed the Symbolic tour, Chuck decided that it was time for Control Denied to become a reality. I had just joined up with Chris Williams, Scott Clendenin, and Paul Payne of Talonzfury when Chris was offered an audition for the new up and coming Control Denied line-up. Chuck was impressed with Chris and officially tagged him as the drummer, they recorded three songs together for reference and I was thoroughly blown away when I heard them. Chris quickly recommended me as the second guitarist and passed on some old Metalstorm recordings for Chuck to check out."

I LOVE the internet. The more and more I discover about Chuck's last few musical movements the more I am ABSOLUTELY convinced that Control Denied was in fact a TRILOGY of albums, beginning with The Sound of Perseverance and ending with When Man and Machine Collide. What do YOU, excellent poster, think of Chuck's remaining work and its potential release?
@DaveOJ5 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's the case. Chuck was pretty much done with Death in 1996. Some of what became TSOP would have been on TFAOE.

@@VARVIS_ THANK YOU! The more research I dig into, the more I'm convinced of this. I'm glad he released TSOP and TFAE the way he did because we got 3 more classics on each (Flesh and The Power it Holds comes specifically to mind) that weren't part of the 96/97 10 song demos that lead to half the tracks on each album. That doesn't even take WMAMC into account. I'm so glad you agree!

Hey dude nice work, I had already uploaded this demo song, but I didn't realize it was on the "A Moment of Clarity" bootleg. Everything is clear now, thanks for the information. Although The Sound Of Perseverance reissue is awesome, they could have included this one too.
@LycanWitch8 жыл бұрын
+PatrickINgames Yeah, it's a shame it's not included on the 2 or 3 disc reissue of The Sound of Perseverance, however it's probably due to the reason stated above; It was hiding on a Control Denied rehearsal recording. But whatever the reason, due to this, this makes this version of Spirit Crusher the one and only Death rehearsal recording of a song that remains unreleased (officially) to this day.
