@@Look_What_You_Did @ValNishino Gosh, you're both totally right. Drop glasses = blind in midair is SO MUCH better of an option. Much fairer to the pilot, doesn't hurt his self-esteem. When he crashes into a kindergarten, he can say "It's okay, I found my glasses under the seat afterwards!". 🙂

Sounds like the pilot probably has similar vision to me. Legally, I'm required to wear glasses to drive (when I got the restriction, the DMV rep told me I got one too many letters wrong), but if something were to happen, it wouldn't be immediate doom and hellfire. I couldn't read the words on street signs, but I can definitely see the other traffic, pedestrians, and landmarks even if they are out of focus, so if I already know where I'm going, I'm fine. Is it something I'd do deliberately? Not at all. Is it something I could cope with if it happened? Yeah. But also, I've got prescription sunglasses in the compartment in the roof of the car and an old prescription of regular glasses in the glove box, so it'd just be a quick reach-over to get a new pair on my face.

Is it not an FAA requirement to have a second pair of glasses should they be needed? Also, if you cant distinguish a 3+ kilometer runway from 1 mile out without glasses you should not be flying. Great job by ATC.
