Coach explains how in his views the knees thrown by Arnold Allen were actually legal and how tough it is to ref for this. The rule is more complicated than people think.

Why can’t they just get rid of this dumb rule? It causes so much confusion.

My conspiracy theory is that its in the interest of the commissions and the UFC to keep judging standards vague and poor, and referees bad and prone to mistakes, as it gives them much more plausible liability when it comes to fixing or influencing fights. There’s no other reason I can see why powerful multi- billion dollar organisations wouldn’t have improved these things by now.

The scoring criteria are actually pretty clear if you look them up. Some fights are close tho, and I agree the UFC, probably working w certain judges or commissions, will take advantage of a close fight to select a winner and push certain fighters when possible

Coach, Ontario still has the old grounded rule where anything besides feet is a grounded opponent. Should have been clearly stated before the fight and at any prior rules meetings.

Yes and it was. But when the knees connected the hand was off the ground. You are allowed to lift and knee. It was hard to see live and I understand it's not easy to ref and catch everything. The hand was very close to the ground.

The second time I had to let you know that takedowns are not just scored a “little “ if there is no damage or submissions they are not scored at all unless the rest of the round is completely even

@@lucidethos wrong. Evloev didn’t have his hands down when Allen hit him. Allen lifted up Evloev so that his hands wouldn’t be down when the knees connected. They were all legal no matter what ruleset.

I believe the knees were legal and wouldn't assume what they said during the pre fight meeting, but I've heard that Canada hasn't updated their rules to have the weight bearing aspect.

Ofc he would admit the knees are legal as well, the unified rules of MMA are very explicit for this scenario in specific

I think that knees to a grounded opponent should be legal, these wrestlers have no punishment for failing takedowns when the guy sprawls, so they can continually shoot and miss without worrying about knees to the head. The rule set is providing an advantage to wrestlers when that wouldn’t work in a real fight

Did grounded not mean flat on the floor? This just looks like cheating. A Thai fighters natural instinct would be knee someone who attempts a take down.
