She wants? Where does she get the gall to demand anything? Her victim has a death sentence, he's never coming back. She does not in her testimony today admit to having done anything wrong, blames everyone else for her actions. Though there's a video of her admitting to the accident after being arrested while in the back of a police car. She should spend every one of those 28 years in prison, it will give her time to think about the horror of her actions.

I'd have more sympathy for her if after the crash, she immediately called 9-11 or flagged down a car and tried to get him to a hospital. Was he still alive? Did he have a chance to live? The fact that she fled, then got a bite to eat, THEN WENT GAMBLING is why she should spend every single second of that 28 years in jail.

It is her right to testify on her own behalf. Her attorney CANNOT (and certainly did not) prevent her from testifying. That being said, it is quite often not in defendant's best interests to testify. "Open mouth, remove all doubt" they often display their narcissism, callousness to actual victims, disdain for all society. She was offered plea and chose to take her chances. Her entitled disbelief SMH. No attorney can neglect to inform of a plea that's been offered. Whether she has had a legitimate diagnosis of bipolar or not, she was likely "self medicating". Drunk, high or both. Drinking at the casino, time lapse makes it difficult to prove, but jury got verdict correct. Claiming ineffective counsel (because consequences and buyers remorse) is like blaming the person who threw you a life preserver.

28 years S/P gain time, which reduces her sentence 15% for good behavior, means she will be out in 23.8 years. If she originally took a plea deal of 20 years, she would have been out in 17 years. In comparison, Cameron Herrin, who was sentenced in Tampa for killing 2 people, a mother and child in a stroller, while speed racing only got 24 years will be out in 20.4 years. Personally, I don't care what a person did after any crime. It is the act itself that should be judged, as everyone acts, and... reacts differently. It is like the difference of being drunk and sober. JUST SAYING...
