I disagree, it’s not completely silent he’s just doing it too hard. It’s a lot like the when the French don’t pronounce a letter at the end of a word. it’s like you form your mouth into the shape to make the J sound, but you don’t push enough air out to actually make the sound properly.

Ed Lo the H and J phonics are not close at all. The J sound that he’s referring to is similar to the J that Spaniards pronounce. The Salvadorans, Hondurans, and Nicaraguans share similar slang but the pronunciation is different. ES and Honduras sound especially close. Then further south the accent changes. The Nicas, Ticos, and Panamanians. The Nicas and Ticos share a large slang vocabulary but their accent is totally different.

Ed Lo yes they do. I live in Los Angeles where it is heavy with Salvadorans. The S sounding like a J is not common on all Salvadorans. I think it’s only a certain region of El Salvador that speaks like that too. Standard Nicaraguan Spanish sounds like Venezuelan. I always get confused with Venezuelan. My family does as well. And if you look at Nicaraguan Spanish videos you’ll find Venezuelans day we sound like we are from Caracas.

You are so cute dude. And your accent makes you even cuter. I wish you talked more about yourself. Anyway, yo he estado enamorado con espanol desde que empece aprendiendo en colegio cuando tenia 11 o 12 anos. ALL of my teachers were native English speakers who learned Spanish as adults (should be illegal...) and had horrible accents. Pero por casi 10 anos trabaje en restaurantes, siempre con personas hablando con acento autentico, mostly people from El Salvador and Puerto Rico. My Spanish accent is a lot better than other Americans with beginner-intermediate Spanish fluency who didn't start learning until after puberty (supposedly if you don't start learning your second language until after the onset of puberty, you will never ever be able to fully master all the unique sounds, so you'll never have a perfect accent), pero tengo problemas con algunos sonidos, por ejemplo the "TR" in my pronunciation of "tres" has a tiny vowel sound in the middle I can't get rid of, and I feel awkward whenever a word contains "RL" as in "decirlo". My favorite Spanish accent seems to come from the far north of Spain (like chef Elena Arzak), but I don't waste my time trying to learn it. (I hate the "th" sound in Castilian accents.) When I first heard you speak I thought you were a northern Spaniard. I will never be able to speak like you. I'm from Boston; NOBODY can imitate our accent unless they grew up around it, and it's disappearing very very fast. What do you think about the different accents of English? What other languages do you speak? Do Spanish speakers consider a British accent the most beautiful expression of English, and the American southern accent the ugliest? We do!
@ConvoSpeak
@ConvoSpeak 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment and for sharing your path to learning Spanish. Sometimes it takes years to get sounds down, but as long as you are understood, you should feel confident. We as native speakers also with some words. I will little by little tell more about myself in my videos. I am still learning how to put myself out there. I speak English, French and Spanish and currently learning Korean. In terms of the English accents, I believe Brittish is quite beautiful, but after living in Arkansas, I actually learn to love the US southern accent. I believe we assign value to accents depending on what we think of the people that speak it. Thank you for the comment. I'll keep posting video and will make sure to talk more about myself.

We had a Cuban doctor when I was growing up. He spoke English like he spoke Spanish: he dropped all the consonant endings off words. His father had been personal doctor to Battista, so they fled Cuba when Castro took over. His father and all his brothers spoke much better English, and we could never figure out why his English was so much more Spanish-y. His dad had almost no accent at all. He was a workaholic doctor, so I guess all his efforts went into his specialty : )

I can't believe how Italian my grand aunt sounded when spoke Uruguayan Spanish. She was too loud. And had all the hand gestures the Italians do when talking to others . So, I'm disagree with you. My uruguayan childhood friends, boyfriends mostly had italian last name and italian facial features. Uruguay have a big number of Italian descents. We're more similar to them than to Brazilians. Unless you identify as a brown skin from Uruguay North Provinces then you will feel more identified w/Brazil.
