My mom used to do this she would thaw a couple days in the fridge and then she would put it on the stove top overnight on low , in a giant pan of chicken broth and spices and she would cover it in foil and it would simmer all night and she would check on it every two hours. And then the day of Thanksgiving she would actually put it in the oven and the early morning hours

I found this video easy to follow. This is how I fixed my turkey for Thanksgiving 2023 and it came out perfect!!!!! So I’m planning today for this Thanksgiving. I came back here today to watch your video again to make sure I can do this since I’m not able to practice.

Great. Hope its another good one I just make sure not to go to big and if it's a notably bigger bird I add 20 minutes or so to the cook time. Best of luck!

Exoman, i have to tell you my new nickname "turkey Master '. I followed your instructions, my bird was 22 lbs so i cooked it for 1hr and 10 minutes at @500 degree's just like you said and people came from miles around to see and taste my gobbler😂🤟.my girl's mom said i would get salmonella. She ate the most! One thing i Always do is cook the bird breasts on the bottom. It is incredible Sir. You and farm girl got it going on. Great recipe. God bless. Ron in Orlando Florida.

Great job! Thanks for pointing out the extra cook time for bigger birds. I wish that I had mentioned that this is not good for the big ones over 15 pounds or so. You are cleaver enough to have figured this out, kudos!

I've been on a quest to cook a turkey where it's not dry. My wife always says turkey is dry no matter who cooks it. I'm going to try 180F overnight instead of the 500 for one hour then turn it off. I tired that before it came out dry.

One question. So 500 degrees for 1 hour then turn off the oven ?? My house is very cold the oven gets very cold right after I turn it off. Do you think the turkey will cook through the night ?
@exoman2 жыл бұрын
Sandra, that is a great question. Maybe turn the heat on over 67F for that night if you can. We keep ours house about 68 overnight and it works every time.

But, how many hours does it actually need to be in the oven?
@exoman2 жыл бұрын
I'd say at least 5-6 hrs. Doesn't really matter, if you sleep through the night like the average person. A small medium sized bird is done and the oven is warm, not hot, when you get up.
@AimeeMarsh-m5yАй бұрын
@@exomanI sleep weird hours so I was wondering the same thing. I have a 20lb bird. If I go to bed at 6am what time should I wake up and take it out of the oven so it doesn’t dry out? 6 hrs later?? I want to set my alarm so I don’t over sleep.

Seems to work best with turkeys in the 12-13 lb range. I cooked a 19lb bird at an hour and 20 minutes and it worked nicely. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@exoman Mine was 11 pounder and this is what happened. I followed your instruction. Two hours after the bird has been turned off and cooking in the oven, my nephew came and put it in the warmer section of the oven so he can cook his bird for the whole night. Of course, I did not find out until the next morning. Make a long story short, mine was fall off the bones delicous, oh, yeah, his was also delicious!

6 minutes of “turn oven to 500° for hour then turn off” 🤦

I have to try this next time. My method is to cook the turkey overnight a at 170, then when it is within few hours from dinner time, I raise the temp to 375 for 1.5 hours.
