swedish food is diverse but there are 3 dishes that I really wanted to try,
and with a little time I was able to get together a small menu for a day in the life of a swedish person.
today's dishes are
kalles cavier, bread and boiled eggs.. a staple in many kitchens and a well loved favourite! i had to give this one a try, even though I was a little scared!
for lunch we had, raggmunk med fläsklagg, which is a potato pancake fried until crispy topped with crunchy bacon and a big spoon of ligonberry jam!!! pankcakes for lunch?? not a strange thing in sweden, they often eat pancakes for lunch every thursday of the year
and for dinner we have Fläsklagg med rotmos! a braised and cured cut of pork served with a root vegetable mash!
it was a lot of fun to prepare everything and I hope you give some of these meals a go!

And the kaviar should be DECORATIVELY put across the eggs in a pretty sinus wave pattern

Allspice (kryddpeppar) and AllKrydda (mixed spices and salt) are two separate things. So that is probably why it was a bit salty.

Yes when I saw Piffi Allkrydda 😬 you should have mustard to that also 😊

​@@CodeySimon I can see how allspice can get mixed up with allkrydda. But, piffi allkrydda is a spice mix, while allspice in Swedish is kryddpeppar. You usually put whole pepper corns of allspice (kryddpeppar) in a dish like this. Also common in some stews.

I'm a 48 yo native Swede, grew up in and around rugbyclubs so that might explain my vocabulary 😀 Yes there is a rugby series here, albeit a lot smaller than in the 90's. Played for 25 odd years here in Sweden . Obviously came across a far bit of NZ'ers. Hell, my coah was even from Waitotara. Always found you to be a really likeable bunch.. Except for the man with the offside leg...mr. McCaw ;-) Love seeing you lot mucking about trying classic Swedish foods. Many of the dishes I grew up with and love. This is my first video seeing from you, so you might have tried it before, but you should really make: - Inlagd sill - Toast Skagen - Ärtsoppa med fläsk - Stekt sill - Kroppkakor Love seeing the content, and I have to say that I'm dying to eat a traditional Hangi, it looks absolutely choice but I haven't had the chance to try it. Anyway...keep up the good work guys.

haha I definitely marmite eating runt! its the greatest! you swedes do have some good humour much like us! thats so cool about the rugby, we for sure have some similar cultures and I find it easy to get along with swedes as well, but I think you might be going to far when you're talking about the best rugby player in the world. It was fun to try some new foods , and because I took so long to reply to your lovely message, i am now writing down the foods you mentioned and will try them in my next video. :) thanks the chat! talk to you after I try these foods :)

If you get the opportunity, try knäckebröd, like Wasa husman or with a bit of butter and then caviar ontop. Doesnt have to be a video. Likewise try some other kinds of bread with caviar, such as Skogaholms Limpa or untoasted toast such as originalroast, with some hardboiled sliced eggs ontop and then caviar or none. And as mentioned, put a small dab of caviar ontop of an egg and take a bite, then repeat with another dab until done. Not sure why there was butter on the raggmunk, never seen anyone do that tbh.

You doing stuff wrong makes me realice how strange some of the swedish food might be to someone coming with an outside view. I would love for you to share the recepies you use. Love this series!

Hahah yes some of them are strange for sure! But a different experience is always nice! I think in the next few videos I will try to cook and share some of the recipes! So stay tuned! :) hope I can do you proud

Dude, you're a natural when i comes to cooking! U got everything right except for not slicing the egg, but mashing it on top works just fine! The Raggmunk with fläsk looked delicious!

Late answer, I know. But you can actually buy Kalles Kaviar in IKEA and if I dont remember wrong, you can buy it in Cerny Most. If you have not looked, try and see if its there. Its very common to find it there in most of the world.

You can absolutely mix some fil into the mix, slight variation in taste, a bit sour a bit thicker. But works.

loved this codes, laughed a lot. interested why you are in sweden... i see there is a video explaining so i will watch. i've been making croissants from scratch which had been enjoyable but hard. maybe try it and see how they turn out?! nicks xx

Good selection of dishes! It seems like you use butter in both the rotmos and on the raggmunk, which makes the dishes uneccessary fatty, and not according to the traditional recipe. In these dishes, definitely avoid butter as the "fläsk" and "fläsklägg" already contain a lot of fat. If you bake cinnamon buns, though, butter is much preferred over margarine 😋

Great kaviarmacka! 1: Press harder with the cork, its not completely open 2: As with surströmming, less is more. Not as much less, but its a lot of taste. 3: The eggs compliment the flavour making it less strong. Cheese works good also, classic swedish cheeses like herrgård on top also mildens and compliments the flavour. (4:) Weird things that are good with kaviar. Spinach soup with half eggs (classic swedish dish) is even better with kaviar. Avocado is great with kaviar. Aaaand. Banana is actually good with kaviar (if you like kaviar I guess)

toast Skagen is deffinetly a great dish from Sweden :) and alot of times it is used as a starter. of course, you gotta do swedish meatballs with brown sauce, potatoes/mash, lingon berry jam and the lightly pickled cucumber :)

@@CodeySimon Paltbröd med vitsås ( bechamel ) stekt fläsk & kokt potatis. Paltbröd Is hard to find in stockholm but easy to fin up in north of sweden, But at Ica they often have it frozen. And one other favorite is Stuvade makaroner med stekt fakukorv

I must say my ocd makes it difficult to watch your videos since they are riddled with mistakes. Anyway the reason the caviar looks like a worm is because you didn't punch the hole in the tube all the way in. It is supposed to have a star pattern. You should also have mustard with fläsklägg. Also just look up the pronunciation of our letters åäö. Otherwise, glad that you try.

You should have Swedish turnip or rutabaga in America for rotmos. And smoked fläsk is not the same as bacon and to raggmunk you should have rimmat fläsk. And raggmunk is not a pancake, it's more like hash browns with pancake batter.more course ground potatoes And Kalles is the worst kind of caviar we have, really bad quality of caviar. And most often you have sliced eggs on the bread and then put caviar on top

Smoked fläsk, is the same as bacon and rimmat fläsk. Just some diffrence in how they are cooked and prepped. Its from the exact same piece of meat. All 3 of these are just as good to use togheter with Raggmunk. The beauty of Swedish food, its made by poor people to make use of everything that was at home.

@@rickardsvensson7097 nu va du dum på riktigt. Det är klart att det är samma köttstycke som används. Med din logik skulle det gå lika bra att använda kotlett då den finns i rökt form som kassler vilket är samma som kanadensisk bacon trots att den är rökt mycket mindre och med annat träslag.. Rökt och rimmat fläsk är 2 helt olika saker som råkar vara tillverkade av samma köttbit bara. Och vårt bacon är lättrökt sedan skuret i väldigt tunna skivor. Sen sa jag inte att det inte kan va gott, jag påpekade att traditionellt är det rimmat fläsk till raggmunk.
