Cheap Lazy Vegan Favorite hacks pre-chop everything and using the food processor to chop. My hack to you is to just slightly undercook a batch of pasta then in a container or bag, freeze with a little oil. You can reheat it in the microwave which will cook it the rest of the way or boil in the bag via kettle or in a pot. That way if you want your broccoli pasta you can just boil the kettle and microwave or (using good bags) poor water over both. Maybe a separate bowl.

Tip: freeze garlic/ginger in ice cube trays. Once frozen, take them out and put them in a sealed bag in the freezer. Then, when you need some garlic, take out a cube/s and chuck it into the frying pan as needed. Tip: freeze onions using a muffin tray. take them out and store in a sealed bag and keep it in the freezer for when you need it. Literally do this with all veges. Capsicum, broccoli, chilli's..whatever you use the most.

For breakfast I pre mix all the ingredients for muesli in a large bowl. Like oats, nuts, dried fruit, hemp seeds, flax meal, shredded coconut, pepitas, bran, sunflower kernals etc. Mix and place into a container ready to use. Then all I have to do in the morning is blend almond milk, a banana and frozen berries together and pour over muesli. It is divine.

For flour tortillas, I make up batches of dough..flour, salt, baking powder, and shortning. Mix well. Freeze bags until I want to make tortillas. Take out, let warm up a bit, add hot water, mix into a dough. Proceed. That way there is always a mix ready when I am. Love your blogs hon. I am a 75 year old woman.

This is not so much of a cooking hack as a kitchen hack. I took a plastic hanging shoe organizer and hang it inside my pantry door which is a regular size floor to ceiling door. I put 2 spices in each pocket and label the outside of the pocket. You will know if you run out or are low to buy more. Now I can find all my spices without having to pull them all off the shelf or having them fall out on my head. This also gave me more cabinet, shelf and counter space. =D

I don’t have a processor but I’ve learned you can “chop” veggies by floating them in water in your blender. You just make sure you have at least 1 inch of clear space of water above the blade and chop. I have used the onion garlic and celery water for soup stocks and sauces.

I froze tofu once, cause it came in two blocks from Costco. The defrosted tofu didn't have the same texture. Became mushy and inedible to me. I think it was because I froze it in its package, water included. Next time I'm gonna try draining the tofu and maybe put it in a Ziploc. See if there's a difference.

Hi Rose! I'm Italian and broccoli pasta is one of our to-go meals! I would recommend to throw the broccoli and a small potato (sliced) before you throw the pasta in the boiling water, just a minute or so earlier. In this way the pasta will be a bit more creamier. Ok, it doesn't sound good, but you have to try it. At the end I add olive oil and black pepper.

Freezing fresh herbs in olive oil in like an ice tray is a great way to preserve them. Where I live they can be expensive and I never use them fast enough so this is a good hack to save time, money and eliminate waste. I love the idea of putting together spice blends for frequently made meals, I can't believe I've never tried that.

Cheap Lazy Vegan right! Is it wrong that I want to either figure out a way to get an industrial dish sink installed in my house or just hire someone to just do the dishes? I feel both of those are just really excessive things to want. 😅
@quigli
@quigli 6 жыл бұрын
CAYG ftw! Even just rinsing everything as you go along makes the end so much.easier. You still see a big pile of dishes, but theres nothing stuck on them, so it doesn't look so daunting. P.S. Coming from someone who works in a kitchen with an industrial dishwasher and uses it everyday... You still have to rinse and scrub everything. It's very disappointing when you find out that those big things are really just SANITIZERS, and won't get most of the actual food particles off. Completely pointless to have at home lol. What ARE useful are the super-powerful spray hoses that will blast almost anything off the dishes before they go in the sanitizer. Now That is something I'd look into getting at home... There's a lot of overspray, though, so maybe not.

I'm the same! The only way I can do it is if I make myself a plate, then immediately put the rest in the fridge. I find I'm much less likely to get the food back out of the fridge, but if it's still there on the stove or the counter in a big serving dish, yeah, that's getting eaten.

Omg the broccoli hacks are genius!!! I actually saw a huge tub of frozen garlic in my friend's freezer a few weeks back and was mind-blown by the ingenuity. Not a cooking hack, but for weirdos like me who enjoy chopping vegetables, here's the secret for onions: don't cut the bottom part! Chop the onionl around that last 1/2 inch before the root, and you won't get assaulted by the sulfurous gas. I haven't cried from cutting onions in months! Thank you for sharing, Rose!

I have a tip for ginger which is similar to the garlic hack. I just peel the ginger, chop it into thumb sized pieces and freeze them in a bag, then when I need some I just take a piece out of the freezer and grate it into the dish I’m making while it’s still frozen! 😊 With garlic I mince it and freeze it in an ice cube tray, then take it out a cube or two at a time to drop into whatever I’m making.

I have been freezing ginger for awhile but I never thought of doing that with garlic, I just harvested some from my garden and this is a great way to store it for later use. I also take all of my scraps from chopped vegetables (ends of onions, celery, broccoli, etc) and throw them into a ziploc bag in my freezer. When the bag is full (or several bags) I use them to make my own vegetable stock which I then freeze for later use.

I love smoothies. I put banana slices on a parchment lined cookie sheet & flash freeze them (takes maybe half an hour.) I transfer the slices to a zip loc bag while they are still frozen & this prevents their sticking together. I use the frozen bananas or other fruit instead of ice cubes and this makes my smoothies taste less watered down and much more delicious! I buy berries or other frozen fruit or freeze it myself. Sometimes I freeze espresso or juice in an ice cube tray to use for smoothie recipes.

Love the idea of a "Cheap Lazy Vegan Followers' Cheap Lazy Hacks" video! My lazy hacks are: Trader Joe's Soycutash - put in bowl with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, microwave and boom - dinner. Also with Trader Joe's frozen roasted corn. Sometimes if I'm really lazy I just wash a can of beans and eat it cold with, you guessed it, olive oil, salt and pepper. One way I'm lazy is trying to minimize the number of spoons I use, so I sometimes choose condiments specifically because I can pour or squirt them out of a bottle, not scoop out. And if I need to scoop something out, that's the utensil I eat with. Another lazy thing I do is buy vegetables that need minimal prep. Microwave bags of fresh broccoli are pre-washed and ready to eat out of the bag. Same with baby carrots. And those mini bell peppers (some brands need to be rinsed, but since they don't need to be chopped it's a win). Cucumbers are easy to prep, and I love to chop one up, top with Trader Joe's everything but the bagel seasoning, and eat that as my salad (and would be the perfect accompaniment to the cold can of garbanzo beans for an easy cold summer dinner!).

I buy packaged coleslaw then use it for salads or for a stir-fry with pasta, onions, and garlic. I like the chopping fresh veg then freezing tips best. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! I already use a lot of these, like pre-mincing/chopping the garlic and onion and freezing it. I work in a prep kitchen and we actually just recently starting prepping the spice blends for stuff like that, and it's really convenient! Doing the same thing at home is a great idea. I also already throw my broccoli in with the pasta to cook it, and use the food processor to chop veg (i learned that trick from work actually) I'm trying to think of a good cooking hack but I seem to be blanking... I can pretty much only think of stuff specifically related to making huge batches, like piercing an extra hole in the top of a large bucket of liquid to stop it from glugging out and splashing all over the place lol. I guess that could be applied to smaller containers as well, but it's not as big of an issue with small containers lol. A really good (but maybe to obvious to be a "hack") idea is to CAYG - clean as you go. As soon as you're done with a dish/utensil, just give it a quick rise to get all the food particles off it. It will make the final clean-up SO much easier at the end, cause you won't have to do much scrubbing.

That is a great idea with the spices!!! Every time I make scrambled tofu it's annoying that I have to get out so many spices and open and measure them one at a time. Of course! I just mix them ahead of time so I can make scrambled tofu every day 'cause the kids love it!

Lazy chili hack: beans - I use pintos, kidneys, and black beans-, corn (optional- I do a Tex-Mex chili), diced tomatoes, tomato paste, seasoning to taste, and ...a jar of chunky salsa! This eliminates chopping the garlic, onions, and peppers. I also sometimes add some cooked macaroni elbows to make chili-mac. So good topped with the cashew parm or just nutritional yeast. I'm totally down with the cook once and eat for days meal prep!

In all my years of cooking I never made spice mixes - this is a life changer! I like to travel in my little camper van which has LIMITED kitchen space. I'm going to make a tofu scramble mix that I can take on the road! This reduces my camp-cooking spices by a third. Thank you so much for being you.

Cooking rice & vegetables with a microwave oven is a quick hack & it helps retain most of the vitamins which are usually blanched out during the cooking process when they are cooked on a stove top.

I chop a bunch of veg I like in combination that takes the same cooking time or doesn’t always require cooking - red cabbage carrot grated courgette sweet corn. And I put some in the fridge and freeze the rest. I put it in pasta stir fry salad anything 🌈

Yes!! The past week or so Ive had left over chopped up veggies and I found that I make black bean noodles ore often since it's on hand and I won't feel lazy to chop all the veggies. Also you asked why you haven't done the chopped garlic hack even though its so easy, GIRRRRL BECAUSE it's too much for us lazy people! Another hack is using two mixing bowls and put the cloves in and just shake away! I had to peel over 10 heads of garlic and this saves me SO much time!

7:23 I already do this one but I think this is the best thing ever. Same if you're a student or if you usually eat at work which means that you don't have a lot of time to prepare yourself a meal for the next day . Like just cook more for dinner and eat the leftovers the next day. Bonus, I personally believe that some meals are tastier the next day after a night in the fridge like homemade pizza, Bolognese Spaghettis etc

Well I am some what really lazy when it comes to cooking. I love making chili in the crock pot and other soups too. I love making big batches of things I really love to eat and i put them in sandwich bags and put them in the fridge for when I need a fast meal. I also have found out that cooking your quinoa and beans in the crock pot is really smart! I use that thing so much that my dad is starting to love my cooking. 1 pot not 6.

I haven't actually tried it myself yet, but I've seen it several places online- to peel garlic fast, separate the cloves, put them in a glass jar with a lid or two metal bowls, shake vigorously for 20 seconds or so and the peel should come off

Cheap Lazy Vegan it would also be awesome if you added ginger and onion along with garlic and minced in the food processor and add it to a jar and a little olive oil so that way you can spoon it into a pan when you are cooking and save even more time.

I laughed way too hard at the "don't sue me" lol I love your channel, you're really funny to watch while being very informative. I just registered to skillshare, thanks! Regarding to hacks, I prefer the "mini meal preap": sometimes I would cook double and eat the same thing for two days. I also think of my meals in advance and have a couple of quick recipes if all else fails.
