I stop eating. For me I think it's both the deciding what to cook AND grocery shopping that stops me because doing it is enjoyable and I love the cleanup. But also the pressure of my partner almost... expecting me to cook for us both by myself. Idk. I find myself eating the same meals for an entire week and then my partner will be like "I think we should switch it up" and all of a sudden I'm stressed all over again and fall into not eating at all. It's been over a decade... and I'm actually in tears watching this video. It helps tremendously to know which parts I hate and now I can tackle it with much more intention and confidence. I can't thank you enough.

I don't like cooking because I eat half the food before its done :( And I like the instant gratification of having my meals now rather than the long torturous wait for it to cook and then be half gone before its even plated

I seem to have a hang up about cooking for OTHER people, rather than cooking for myself. When I was in school and lived alone, I had very little issue with simple, repetitive foods (pan fried frozen vegetables, boiled eggs, things like that). A little while later, when I moved in with my partner, I felt paralyzed by something similar to performance anxiety. I feel afraid of being judged for lack of skill or creativity in the kitchen. (Also, frankly, I think I'm afraid of filling some kind of maternal or caretaking role for someone who I firmly want to see - and want to be seen - as equal.) It all snowballs into a giant aversion to doing anything in the kitchen, and I'm not entirely sure how to disentangle it at this point.

I used to hate meal prep, but a few things that made it more bearable: a crock pot that would cook for me while I’m at work, an instant pot that cooks. I’ve also invited friends over to do a group meal prep and that was so much fun. When I traveled to Greece I went to a cooking class and it inspired me to prepare some new foods that I really enjoyed. I listen to comedy shows while I’m cooking or a good audiobook.

And now every time I try it's just so hum drum. So your point about just looking at it as another thing you do to take care like brushing your teeth really helped me. Thank you so much.

Cooking use to give me a lot of anxiety. No one cooked in my household growing up. My parents made a lot of frozen pre-boxed food that was full of sodium. Once I got past the anxiety, I still didn't find joy in it, so I started making a new dish from a different country every week, and this has helped to make cooking fun because I get to try a new dish every week. I make it in bulk so I can enjoy it all week. :)

There is no need to cook. Very simple preps are healthier than complicated stuff. My partner wants me to cook and I hate this. By the time it is ready I am not hungry any more and horribly bored. The fish I put in the pasta sauce and the veggies did not really need to become a sauce....It is really affecting my relationship

I actually love shopping and cooking, and I’m really good in the kitchen. But that’s public cooking for family and friends, like a performance. It’s my public face of food. The danger is after I’m on my own-my wife is asleep, or I’m at home alone. Then the food becomes the enemy. Thank you, by the way. I’m struggling. I used to have the metabolism to hide the binging, but not anymore. Most people who even touch on the make perspective don’t seem to connect. Just downloaded your book and it’s wonderful.

I love cooking sooo much. It’s what got me out of my orthorexia. It went from “clean” to authentic and flavorful. It was so healing. It does get tiring to figure out something interesting and appealing every night! And I like going out to restaurants for Inspo, connecting with people and to catch a break. I don’t much like cleaning though lol.

Hi Sarah, First of all, I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for your videos. I've started watching them a few months ago and it completly changed my relationship with food and with my body. You changed my life, litterally. Watching your videos always make me feel so calm and like "I got this" ! For me, the most difficult part about cooking is the planning: I never know what I want and I never know how to include my daughter's taste and needs in all this. I feel overwhelmed when I'm at the super market. There's so much stuff and I don't know what to get. Or I look at the vegetables and my mind goes blank. I don't know what to cook them in or with and they don't look appealing... Does anyone feel the same? Maybe someone has some tips?

One of my personal faves with veg is to toss them in some pesto and roast. Delicious and very little effort! For preparing the veggies : I buy them either frozen, or in can (with no oil, no sauce). The only exception I make if for spiralized zucchini (I'm too lazy to spiralize them myself). If veggies are raw (frozen, spiralized zucchini), I put them in a bowl, add water, and ccok them in my microwave on "sensor" mode. If they are in a can, I rinse them, then add either cooked chicken breast or cooked fish, or tempeh or tofu, everything in a dish, seasoning, oven. Done. Hope this helps !

I hate cooking, and even more doing the dishes. Now I have one solution : I use only preparatory dishes (Tupperware, etc) and dishes that go into the dishwasher😀 Having food already preppred is really challenging when we are deep into the BED, but, curiously, i never binged on food that I had prepped, cooked (aka spent time on), always on ready to eat items🤔

So relevant, have been there a few years ago. What helped me was to ask myself what I really wanted to eat and free myself of a judgement and wanting to eat perfectly all of the time. It started with an app on the phone where I wrote down some ideas for lunch, dinner and snacks I wanted to eat in the next following 3-4 days as well as the shopping list. I always try to see what ingredients I already have home and how to build recipes around it. For the meal ideas I absolutely adore Hello Fresh free base of recipes and a phone app Yazio that has several options including vegan, high-protein and also tells you calories and nutritional content of the meal. I scroll through the recipes when I am having a dilemma what to it and it does get me out of the funk, even when it is trying several new recipes every week. It does get easier and more routine over the time because you eventually figure out what you like, what tastes good and what seems to work with your nutritional needs and your time. Meal planning and meal prep needs to be done ahead of time for me when I have relatively less stress and more times on my hand

It's complicated. For me it's that I hate cooking but feel shame over my food choices because the narrative in my mind is that my choices are bad for me foods. BUT, what I warm up or put together is all I can manage physically. I have such a deficit of energy because of my autoimmune disease that microwave foods are usually all I can handle. I do get a lot of my groceries delivered and I love that it's gotten simpler since covid made it a thing. The already prepared meals is something I've tried but I didn't really like the flavors, and the cost was difficult to justify. The last tidbit is that we're a house of 3 that has to be satisfied. We have vastly different tastes too. I cook something usually every other day and microwave the other times. I don't like the quality of microwave foods but they're easy. I'm not satisfied with how I feed myself, but I feel it's the best I can do. I'm trying to not be so judgmental about it or myself.

All the issues you brought up about cooking I've never even thought of. At the end of my videos, I say, "Be kind to somebody today." Your words have given a new meaning to "be kind." For me I hate the planning and have so much trauma around it. Basically I was referred to a nutritionist when I was a teenager and I had to bring weekly food diaries of what I’d eaten. I remember one week she was going through them and I had a tuna sandwich one day and a chicken one the next, and she said to me to make sure that I am getting variety in my diet and to not eat the same food groups every day. Because I’m autistic and have back and white thinking I took that as thinking that if I have bread one day I can’t have the next so my weeks since then have been filled with doing meal plan after meal plan ensure no food groups were eaten on the same consecutive days. I still have this mentality and it fills me with dread having to do a meal plan so I just end up having a cereal bar for breakfast and crisps for dinner and then whatever for tea. I wish I could stop this black and white thinking. I think it’s because I want to create the perfect diet plan but I still haven’t found it in my forties. Thanks so much for the video 😊

This helped. I didn’t realize that I kind of hate clean up - I love when things are clean, but dread dishes - I add music or audible to help with this, sometimes. I love cooking. I prefer simple recipes. So… I tried one of the meal-kits delivery services - it has been very helpful - I am more comfortable in the kitchen, now. I enjoy novelty and yummy flavours, simple recipes. The meal-kits helped me have a better idea with portion sizes. I personally don’t find it cost effective, so it isn’t a long term solution. But, fun! I want to make a food plan, but find I am overwhelmed with this. Do you have any more strategies - I’m new to the channel, so you may already have a video. Thank you! This gave me some things to consider. 😊
