I used to meal plan (and want to return to it). I would plan out the week for breakfast and dinner, and then for lunch it would be "planned leftovers" which were what was left from a previous dinner I'd make extra of something for dinner, which would heat up well in the microwave, then would have it for lunch at least once that week, or would freeze it in portions to have later. Sometimes I would freeze whole meals in a container, to be heated for lunch at work, for instance I would make lentil loaf, mashed potatoes and onion gravy, and divide them into several containers. So it was like getting a frozen meal from the supermarket to heat up, but I made it. :) It was also less work than making several different meals to bring for lunch, since it was many portions for the same amount of work. :)

I have that black & white cat on a cup 😻 I usually go with what’s on sale in the store. I really enjoy the basic Japanese meal of rice, miso, pickled vegetables, and teriyaki meat or tofu. Looooove salty miso soup 😋

I started using what I have before going to the store not long ago. When I moved recently I realized how many products in my pantry were out of date. Wasted a lot of food and money. Now I'm trying to use what I have before going to the grocery store. You used the "best bang for the buck" phrase correct. I have a similar phrase for you " I'm trying to get my money's worth". I moved from my parents house to live with my now husband, so when I was at university I already was cooking for two :) But I cannot really remember what I cooked back then hahaha. I found it hardest to switch to cooking for a child as well, since my regular dishes she couldn't eat or refused to eat. And right now getting back into teh routine of school and cooking for that. Looks like you had a great time in Atami. Looks like a wonderful area :)

I'm glad you got to vacation with the family! Looks like everyone had fun. Yes, you used "bang for your buck" correctly. I actually tried a tofu dish from a local takeout a few weeks ago, I wasn't disappointed, but I think the tofu may have been overcooked a little? Does firm tofu have a sponge like texture once cooked? I could write about meal plans and recipes all day long from my point of view but I'll try very hard to be brief. In general, I try to keep the house stocked with basics: carrots, celery, onion, garlic, tomato, cucumber, squash, potatoes are the things I use constantly. I've just started dipping my toes into pre-cooking things like ground meats or roasting chicken to store for future meals vs eating as dinner that night. So far so good. I leave them lightly seasoned. Salt pepper very basic so I can build from there. As far as how I build meals, truthfully I'm constantly thinking about how I could use something up or if an idea would turn out good. Day to day though I pick a main: ground beef, shrimp, pork chop and build from there I try to have a carb/startch and at least two non carb veggies. Ex: Roasted pork loin, Mac and cheese, Brussel sprouts, and carrots. The dishware is absolutely beautiful. I know it can be difficult to take a minute to make a meal pretty but I feel like it's worth it. I ate off a real plate today with an actual breakfast! It was amazing.
@MiwasJapaneseCooking3 жыл бұрын
