Cooking mission of making my Brother eats Bitter gourd by removing it's bitterness! | Traditional Me

මෙදා පාර ලොකු තාත්තගෙ කොරටුවෙ සරුසාරෙට කලු කරවිල පලදාව, දැක්කම ආස හිතෙනවා. පහුගිය රස්නෙ දවස් කියන්නෙ පොලවෙ වතුර තියෙනව නම් ගස්වල පලදරන්න හොඳම කාලෙ. ඉතින් කරවිල කොටුවත් කරවිල කරල් වලින් පලබර වෙලා. ⁣මම කඩාගෙන ආව කරවිල දවස් දෙක තුනක් යන තුරුත් ඉවර වුනේ නැ. කඩාගෙන ආපු දවසෙම අමු කරවිල සම්බෝලයක් හැදුව මිසක් වෙන මොනවත් හදන්න බැරි වුනා. අපේ මල්ලිත් කලු කරව්ල වලට වැඩිය කැමති නෑ. සුදු කරවිල වලට වැඩිය ඒව ටිකක් තිත්ත නිසා ⁣මං ඉතින් වෙනස් විදිවලට කරවිල හදල බලනවා. පෙලක් වෙලාවට ඒව නම් මල්ලි කාල බලන්න ආසයි. බිත්තර සාරු එක්ක හදාගත්ත මිශ්‍රණය ලොකු කෑලි කපාගත්ත කරවිල ඇතුලට පුරවල මං දවල් කෑමට වෑංජනයක් හැදුවා. මල්ලිනම් කරවිල හදපු එකට එකහෙලාම විරුද්ධ වුනා. ඒත් රසම රස බීම එකක් හදල දීල ගියා. අපේ රටේ වැවෙන අමුතුම පලතුරකින් තමයි ඒ බීම එත හදල තිබුනෙ. ඒ තමයි සීනි කැකිරි. අපි පොඩි කාලෙ ඒව කන්න හරිම ආසයි. පුදුම වැඩේ කියන්නෙ ඒ පලතුර ඉදුනත් කිසිම රහක් දැනෙන්නෙම නැති තරම්. හැබැයි කිතුල් පැනි චුට්ටක් එක්ක මුහු වුනාම ඉස්මතුවෙන රහ නම් කියන්න බැරි තරම්. අපේ මල්ලිත් සීනි කැකිරි කන්න හරිම ආසයි. හැබැයි කැකිරි කන්න ආසාවට නම් නෙවෙයි, පැනිකන්න තියෙන පෙරේත කමට. හැබැයි සීනි කැකිරියි පැනියි වගේම ඒකත් එක්ක අලිගැටපේරත් නියමෙටම ගැලපෙනව කියලත් මල්ලිම තමයි කියල දුන්නෙ. ඒ මල්ලි හදල දීපු බීම එක නිසා. මොන දේකට නෝක්කඩු වුනත් මල්ලිගෙ ලෙන්ගතු කමත් ඒ බීම රහට එකතු වෙලා ඒක තව තව රස වෙලා කියල ම⁣ට දැනෙනවා. ඒ හින්දම මං මල්ලිටත් කන්න පුලුවන් විදියට කරවිල වලින් තවත් මොනව හරි හදන්න හිතුවා. කරවිල කඩල දවස් දෙක තුනකුත් වුන නිසා සමහර ගෙඩි ඉදිලිත් එක්ක. ඉදනු කරවිල අමු කරවිල එක්ක එකට තිබුනොත් අමු ඒවත් ඉක්මනට ඉදෙන නිසා මං ඉදුන ගෙඩි වෙන් කරල තියල තිබ්බා. ඉතින් ඉදුනු කරවිලයි අමු කරවිලයි ඉදුනු මාලු මිරිස් කරලකුයි එකට දාල මං චිලි පේස්ට් එකක් හදන්න හිතුවා. හකුරුත් එකතු කරපු නිසා කරවිල වල තිත්ත රහ හැංගෙනවා. ඉදුනු කරවිල ඇටවල රතුපාට සිවිඩ්ඩත් එකතු කලාම ඒකෙ පැනිරහත් ඒ චිලි පේස්ට් එක රසවත් කරනවා. ටිකක් වැඩි පුර තෙල් එකතු කරගත්තම වැඩි කාලයක් ඒක තියාගන්න පුලුවන්. මල්ලි නම් ගොඩක් ආස වුනා. ඒත් මං බලෙන්ම වගේ කරවිල වෑංජනෙත් කොහොම හරි කැව්වා. ආදරෙන් නදී ♥

It’s good to see bitter melon as we call it here in Australia, cooked in another way. The Vietnamese love this vegetable & there are many dishes made from it. It’s the signature dish of stuffed pork mince into a bitter melon to make soup for our Vietnamese new year that every family cooks. They love it for its bitterness & medicinal benefits. Translated from Vietnamese to English, the vegetable means “this will pass”, hence it’s mainly cooked at new year to see the past year end & to bring in the new year. Maybe I can try your dishes one day. 🩷🩵
