Awesome job! I want one of these so bad, but at the same time, I rarely cook because it is just me with hubby on the road. Not sure it would pay for itself for years. LOL

Solar ovens rock. The technology is so simple, why we haven't been using these for the past hundred years is beyond me. I haven't tried steak yet... thanks for the beta test for us, JNull!

I'm thinking of building myself one here. Living in a house with no AC is no fun at all. Going to do the reflectors with plastic cut to fit mirrors like you get at a Auto Parts Store for your side mirrors if they get busted. I really don't have the steady hand to glue mylar to wood i would end up with what would look like a giant shiny raisin full of wrinkles lol. I get the stuff and do it ill share the video with you brother.

so i guess that would be a sunkissed steak? That is great, so much nature provides. People seam to forget that so much was just from nature back in the old days. no prepacked meats, cheeses, etc. and they lived longer. I deff. will have to lok into a sun oven once we get our place. Stay safe, prepare, God Bless

Enjoyed your videos on solar cooking, started watching with the painting an old cooler . That was an interesting concept test, was wondering if the plastic of the cooler ever got hot enough to deform the plastic on the inside of it. I started my exploration of hands on solar cooking with a funnel cooker setup. I put up a video on my version of a Pringles can/Starbucks coffee jar hot dog cooker.... in my video I included a link to my Solar Cooking project Pinterest page that I uses to post my experimental results. Just starting to add videos there from my KZbin channel.I have broken the solar cooker 'parts' list down into 3 basic parts... light collection, light conversion to heat, and retention of heat. I live in an area that tends to cloudy, but when the sun is out, using it would be nice. The very cutting edge portable solar cookers can cost the same as a real stove, and I might be tempted, but figuring out the how to build it yourself has an attraction and the information that you have posted has been useful.

It's a very healthy way to cook. Don't need a ton of oil or fat and no carcinogens from coal cooking or smoking.

Hey, what happened to the cooler? Lol I just watched the 2012 experiment...I was wondering if you tried to make another?Just a note, these are best to do long slow cooking and if completely covered in a dark pot will heat up hotter. Ive seen bread cooked in these, hardboiled eggs (without water) and I bet they would be great for jerky with the top propped open.

Hi JOHN, I watched one of Your vids where You were TRYING to come up with a BIGGER OVEN?How many in the Family besides You and Wife? ANY-WHO? Were You able to build a BIGGER OVEN capable of handling more than just 2 people?ROCK ON!

I love your posts. Tips: Trying using cloth rags (old t-shirt etc) for seasoning the grill, so you don't leave small balls of paper towel which get torn off. Also let your steak temper, sit out for at least 40 minutes prior to cooking to let it get up to room temp for quicker more even cooking. You've inspired me to get myself a Solar Oven.

I've been wanting to try this but haven't got the time to build an oven yet. I've cooked a steak with a fresnel lens. And bacon. Works quite well.

i would love to buy one but they seem a bit expensive for what they are... like charging a hundred dollars for a hammer. im sure they pay for themselves... but still rather simple design, no special materials... expensive. perhaps at a later date...

I believe if you oil the pan before you put it in the oven it will help it heat up faster. Atleast that logic works when you lube up at the beach :P Damn, now I want me a steak. How did your homemade solar oven compare to this one you use now?

Hi Brother. I looked this cooker up before when you talked about it.To rich for my wallet. So with that said if you ever upgrade to another one can I have this one?
@themightyparthos10 жыл бұрын
I'm not horribly impressed with the sun fried steak via the oven. Maybe if you used a fresnel lens on the cast you could get that real "seared" sizzle on the steaks. I would also imagine something like swiss steak and potatoes would cook just awesome in the solar oven. Look into a fresnel, not horribly expensive and very fun!
@ACheshireCat20018 жыл бұрын
If you want cutting edge solar cooker look at the GoSun grill that comes out fall 2016 , pricey as a real house oven, but for an solar cooker that will get to 500-600°F in about the same time as an indoor oven... that is impressive... it is interesting what one can do with a bit less cost.
