So in reviewing some of your beginning vids trying to get a grasp on the varying retrieves you use with the ball jig and was wondering how much beach contour and water depth help you decide which ones you use. A brief explanation please.
@CookingandFishing5 ай бұрын
Briefly - if I'm standing on a beach, I'm gliding that jig on a tight line 99% of the time. If I'm standing on a pier/dock/boat over more than 10ft of water, I am alternating gliding and free fall jigging, sometimes in the same cast. I go into granular detail on both jigging techniques in the Virtual Course on my website, cookingandfishing.com/

Can you give me some insight as to what beaches I should be targeting …..I bought the 11 foot Dialuna and I have an assortment of gulp and Salt strong Artificial lures also… if you don’t mind leave a comment for me as to where I should be targeting these fish as I’m getting a partner of mine who’s interested in doing the same thing. I’m assuming that you were targeting these fish from May to end of June before they start heading out to deeper waters…
@CookingandFishing2 жыл бұрын
11ft is wayyy too long for this technique - fluke usually start off in the back bays/rivers early season then another wave will hit the beaches out front. It's not one big migration it's several smaller ones throughout the season, until they finally depart for the Shelf in the Fall.

Saw your 2021 gear video, you have so many setups! Is there a rod and reel combo you would recommend that would cover Piers, Surf and even Party boats?
@shore-moneyfishing19393 жыл бұрын
I would go with the 7'M Daiwa Rebellion paired with the 3K or 2500 Certate LT (low gear ratio). That should cover the entire spectrum of fluke fishing from shore and back bays/shoreline from a boat. Good luck!
@SC605863 жыл бұрын
Thank You. So for fluke fishing you want a lower gear ratio?
@shore-moneyfishing19393 жыл бұрын
@@SC60586 right. Get the lowest gear ratio if possible. That way you have more versatility when covering the bottom at a slower retrieve.
@CookingandFishing3 жыл бұрын

Two questions: Do you guys prefer a certain part of a tide or not really? I find the last two hours on the incoming to be my sweet spot from the beach. Also do you catch a shit ton of sea robins? Some of my spots are just blanketed with them, sometimes 2 or 3 following my jig into inches of water. I'm in eastern LI.
@CookingandFishing3 жыл бұрын
Tide depends on the spot and time of year, many locations early season outgoing will outproduce incoming then that flips sometime during the season usually when the water temp hits a certain threshold. Robins can be a problem but catch enough of them you can tell when it's a robin after your jig vs a fluke - robins generally swim and nip so you get a staccato rap before your rod tip loads up, and you can generally pull the jig away from them before they get the hook. Fluke, esp 20"+ fish, will inhale your jig in one go and ironically is a more subtle "tick" than smaller fluke or robins. You'll never avoid robins completely but you can avoid the majority of them if you're in tune with your jig.

It really depends on your setup. Braid , floro, any additional terminal tackle used, and rod/reel. I would start with 1/2oz or even 3/4oz until you develop the feel. Then size down.

@CookingandFishing3 жыл бұрын
We've tried Zman jerkshads/paddletails/grubz + procure as well as other scents - the results aren't even worth making a video of...if you're after fluke, use gulp - no plastisol or elaztech bait even comes close (except Keitech but you're really not saving any money using Keitech and it only works as well as gulp when the water is clean).
