Three years in the automotive world means a lot. The first version of the Ford car called the Escort XR3i was very good and quite confidently competed with the Volkswagen Golf GTi - and in 1983 these two cars and competitors didn’t have much, they were objectively the best. But by 1986, when Ford had slightly updated its front-wheel-drive Escort, the Golf was no longer the same, and the refreshed XR3i didn't ride as briskly as before.
