Wow, this seems like tons of work! But exciting too! You must have learned so much. I love all the animal drawings.

Excellent!. I went to university (in England) for 3 years and have a degree in Games Concept Design. The 3 years cost about as much as one year in FZD. But we spent more time doing 3D work and not drawing and there was NO design theory or application and the staff had never work as concept artists. The course was a BIG let down for me and others doing it. I think the one main thing that people need to study themselves is direction and structure. secondly i'd say having feedback. I'm really glad you've shared these because now I've got some structure to follow to improve the flaws and gaping holes in my education :D. Please don't worry about the time of the video, it's all helpful stuff, especially the "boring stuff" XD Thank you. I'm looking forward to the final year :D

What uni did you go to? I’m looking at applying and want to know if it’s worth it
@aaronh5606 жыл бұрын
It's probably better now based of feedback we gave. The best thing about uni, is that it gives you the time to really concentrate on your goals without having to juggle everything else like work and money etc. You have the time to develop the skills. I went to staffordshire University, Based in Stoke-On-Trent. You' might be a bit late for applying for this year though. But you might be able to get a clearing place.
@IIxfirexII6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, I was either thinking about either teeside or Staffordshire and it’s hard to find recent reviews about the school, I need to take a trip there and have a good talk with them before I decide, and I won’t be going this year it would be for starting next year September

@@aaronh560 I got accepted onto that course but chose another instead and sometimes wonder if I made the wrong choice, its interesting to hear your perspective. I really don't think schools in the UK have a solid grasp on how to teach concept art/illustration as a degree yet, I did a one year concept art masters and they didn't really teach us anything, they just said 'Design X amount of characters' and pretty much left us to it without lessons in the fundamentals, whilst stressing how important the fundamentals are.....if they're so important why not heavily integrate teaching them into your fucking course haha, the benefit of the course was definitely all the free time but not the teaching

I love this one a lot and I would even want to join it. It seems so much fun to quickly burst yourself into a managable but really enjoyable project and then have to present it. Projects about evolutionary biology, game level design, fantasy giants and a theme park all but in a matter of weeks has to be super fun and diverse. Good luck with managing everything you do and keep being the way you are; awesome!

I have been working as a professional artist for 6 years now and when I got started I was also very proud of my allnighters or only 4h sleep nights, but honestly now I think it's actually a sign that a person is inexpierienced or bad at time management if they can't finish their work at normal work hours. But I guess that's what makes you faster, testing out your limits. Great Video. Thank you so much!

This is so inspiring! The amount of time you must have put in and the quality of your work is amazing! It must have been so much fun to branch out and experiment with all these different assignments, it seems like they really pushed you to be as imaginative as possible. That's something I wish I could have been able to explore more during my time at university (I'm currently in my final year), but gives me a lot of inspiration for projects I could consider once I've finished. I really liked your 'Theme Park' project in particular! Thank you so much for sharing your work, it was great to see what you came up with and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future! :)

Hi Dina. It so cool to see your school projects. I've always been curious on FZD students learn how to draw and pose the figure for character design. Can you share your knowledge on what assignments and exercises you did at FZD that helped you learn how to draw figures for character design? Or perhaps a short video demonstrating an example on how it's done?

Dont get discourage. I believe it's not about the school because I have seen other FZD students work and it's not that good. She said she was always the bottom of the pile in her class because she was new to drawing. It's not true that every student came out of that school became good. it depends on what level your at. I believe that Dina is a talented artist before going to that school that is why her work looks beautiful. Everyone of us is unique we have different background and culture. going to school is not always a good investment specially in art.

SSKDev You should look in books, e.g. the DK Eyewitness books meant for kids, picture books, magazines such as National Geographic, GEO, etc. On the internet, you can mostly find stock photos or unprofessional ones, whereas books and magazines have the good stuff.

This is amazing! For an aspiring children’s book illustrator, would you recommend this school and learn concept art? Thanks!
@DinaNorlund6 жыл бұрын
Hi there! The school is pretty damn expensive and stressful, but it is only 1 years so you will improve if you put in the effort! Though.. you can get the same education in concept art (not really recommended for children's book illustrators, I just happen to do both) from schools like Brainstorm (in the US) and online courses. Also, FZD follows this book exactly as its curriculum so I recommend getting than and self-study first: www.amazon.com/How-Draw-sketching-environments-imagination/dp/1933492732/ref=pd_sim_14_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1933492732&pd_rd_r=f55b8e7c-ad05-11e8-a3d9-8f6065affc51&pd_rd_w=jiSyZ&pd_rd_wg=FylcN&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb-b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=RWR67N2GBXSVH3J8A8FC&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=RWR67N2GBXSVH3J8A8FC A lot cheaper than the school! But if you still want to go after that cool :)

future evolution concepts.. every time i see ffz assignment s i think - this is very cool, but where would you need these skills? whole game industry is copying old types and concepts with like 1% difference between each other. Maybe for mega expensive movies such as avatar but they are so rare and probably consulted by professional anthropologists and other scientists. Typical day to day job of a concept artist would be rearranging google images in different combinations not inventing new concepts, paradoxically.
@sociallyresponsiblexenomor76085 жыл бұрын
Working all night seems silly to me, does it REALLY get you ahead? If you are not sleeping your memory retention is going to just flush half of what you learned that night out the window anyways. I think you were right to sleep about 5 hours though, I mean I get cutting back on it, but if you are not getting at least 5 or 6 you are just hurting yourself. Become an artist, and then die of a stroke 5 years later does no one any good.
