@Coolclassics I mentioned Jay North( Dennis the Menace) as another kinna type cast victim! So he became something other than an actor after Leave it to Beaver! But pay was very low, and sacrifice high! Ken was saying $17,000 for 2 yrs 7 - 9 yrs old to do 64 episodes,with no residuals/royalty money that works out to about $260 per episode( ( per week), so $40 a day on average! All fame , glory ,98% glory- 2% cash! LoL!

@@Polygonlin As a retired nurse I did this professionally, and I am about to run into the small damn wall you did, however, I do know one thing no can care for my mother better than me, and in my opinion you did better than anything I could have done, and I did many far too many however the one thing I can tell you is hearing is most often one of the last things to leave which means their heard you long after you thought their was nothing there, and most parents would be happy to have someone their love near them, you did that I could do for your parents, but I will do this for mine! For me, it is a gift you give them for giving you life, yes it hurts, but life it is all about pain and healing that pain! The good news you pass with fly colors, however I am up next here to hoping I do as good as you! It is easier said than done, believe me I do get it!

I worked with Kenny at Warner Brothers, he took a career of working as a Grip. He was such a cool soft spoken guy. He was always a pleasure to be around. He never bragged about being in the movies. He was a very humble guy. I am honored to have known him, work with him and hangout with him after work. R.I.P. my friend

Jeez what a small world. I had a grandmother who worked at COLUMBIA and SCREEN GEMS. I Can attest to the close family like attachments that were present on a lot of those film sets. And that included cast crew rechnicians and studio employees . I think each knew how luckly they were to work in such a career.that other people envied.

I remember watching "The Kid" when I was a young teen, and crying my eyes out like never before, at the scene where he was being taken away! It still gets to me now! The powerful emotions in that scene have never been rivalled, in my opinion!

I was surprised how deeply Ken's life story touched me. For context, I am a 65 yr old male, as a young man I watched Ken as Pugsley (and his brother's character "Porky" on Lassie) and did not think much of them at the time or since but as I get older, my childhood actually seems closer to me now than it did in my 30s, 40s or 50s. This youtube channel connects me to the real people behind the characters. After the Addam's Family ended Ken's story and all the bullying he suffered followed by low self-esteem was very hard to hear, and to me, very unexpected. After all, he was a true celebrity. That fact alone (or so I thought) should have made his life better. But his story had a powerful & happy ending because he died a brother-in-Christ! I will see and hug him one day!

That's great that Butch Patrick, Ken's counter part from the Munsters, was at Ken's funeral. Also Paul Peterson of the Donna Reed show who started an organization to help former child actors deal with life after childhood stardom. Ken, Butch, Lisa, and Paul all had something in common.

I had boy crush on PAUL PETERSEN. I Figured he would go on and be a big star so handsome and cool and a boomer. Of course his career fizzled and next time he surfaced it was from his media exposure about child stars in Hollywood. Right there I said if he couldn't make it nobody could. I had forgotten type casting that was a big problem but not for a lot of younger people. I just wanted one of my idols to be successful and prove themselves.

I heard of Ken’s passing at the time it happened and was very saddened by his death. I went to school with ken in 1968 at Walter Reed Jr. high school in North Hollywood, we were in the same chorus class in 7th and 8th grade. He was a very sweet and funny guy, I liked him very much and have never forgotten him. I’m very sad to hear about the trials and tribulations he suffered as an adult. I never saw the bullying he went through, but we only had one class together. It’s not uncommon for kids in Hollywood to be bullied when they go to regular school, kids are cruel. There were many Hollywood kids at our school, almost everyone in LA knows someone in the business. Thank you for posting this video, I’m very glad that Ken’s memory is kept alive through videos like this one.

I absolutely love listening to you tell these stories. My daughter who is now 28 was bullied in school because she has a stutter. Kids were so cruel but she dealt with it with dignity and grace. It wasn't easy and does still affect her to this day but it also made her a stronger person who, did then and still does today stick up for anyone she sees who gets bullied. Thank you for his story. Ken was one of my favorite actors grwoing up at that time. I loved that show! I never knew his difficulties though. Wow. Inspiration comes from the most unsuspecting places sometimes. I too suffer from massive self esteem issues. Ken's story has given me new hope. Funny thing about it is I was just discussing the Book Of Matthew and where the name of the food pantry "Loaves And Fishes" came from an hour ago. Two fish and five loaves fed 5000 men and their wives and children with twelve basketfuls of leftovers. Thank you so much. The timing couldn't have been better. Serendipitous. Excuse me, "find Jesus", do you per chance mean find belief in a particular religion? Don't you think it's more important to be a good person than find a particular religion? Besides, Christianity is as far from the real Jesus as you can get; I never knew Ken Weatherwax & am not prepared to make a judgement about him, but you seem to equate finding a particular religion with finding Jesus himself when those two aren't the same. As for authentic messages from heaven, they exist in the messages given by the Great White Brotherhood through Mr Bob Sanders. The Bible mixes truths with falsehoods & slanders God, so it's very important not to equate finding the Bible with finding God. Very sad story, but I agree that it had a very positive ending. I would have thought that he would have had more money, because he sold his mother's home, the proceeds of which I presumed would be split between him and his brother. I think this story highlights the dangers of childhood fame. It is horrific how cruel kids can be, such as Ken's school-mates. I also think this is a story of the perserverence of the human spirit and how it can come back from devestating adversity. I come away with an admiration for Ken. Thank you for doing such a great job creating this documentary!!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing and especially him living on the road all those years and not having to pay rent he could've saved a substantial sum but on the other hand he started drinking heavily and who knows what else, and we all know money is easy to blow if you don't have a good handle on things. At least he was in a good place when he passed and not in poverty.

Much was missed in this story….I knew Kenny,.he was a Grip in the motion picture industry…He had a difficult transition from child star to adult..He was a good and decent guy……He never talked about his struggles..It was obvious he wasnt a very happy person…Blue collar Hollywood protects the actors on set and off…,we take care of our own…many stories like Kenny….I also know Jane Mansfields son and grandson …and Van Johnson’s illegitimate son..thats a story in itself……R.I.P KW..

Thank you so much for this kind exploration of one child actor’s life. What a gentle, caring soul. What a wonderful son. Hearing that Ken finally found the solace and the friendship he needed was wonderful. Matthew has always been my favorite book in the Bible, and I’m very glad it helped him. I met Ken at the private school, Sherwood Oaks. In 1969. We became friends. I too also worked in the Studios. So I would run in to him at different Studios through the years. Starting with Universal Studios. I lost track with Ken in the mid 90's. Thank you for this video on Ken. He will always be my friend.

Wonderful to learn how protective and nurturing the adult actors were to the child actors! ( If you don't know about Jackie Coogan's child actor years, look him up. The way he was treated by his parents led to the creation of the Coogan Law, alluded to in this video.)

God bless Ken Weatherwax. I was only a kid when this sitcom ran and I probably never got into it until watching the reruns in the 90s. I liked the show and they were funny characters. But I, honestly, never knew much about Ken until seeing this video. And I must say that it is very informational. I'm glad that he found happiness in his life during his time of childhood depression. We see it all of the time in Hollywood where the once cute kids of sitcoms are thrown out and left to fend alone for themselves.

Wow! I really enjoyed listening to this. The cool classics are always excellent, but this one especially rang true. I could totally relate to a lot of it because I was bullied in school too because I always acted a little different than other kids. What a tragedy mankind can be. You think since he was a relatively successful star they would have treated him with respect and dignity but instead it was kind of just the opposite. But hearing this was an inspiration to me because I too have been in dark places where I have no self-esteem and was depressed and my girlfriend. I'm going to have her watch this video because she has contemplated ending your life but the reason why she didn't is she didn't know who would take care of her pets. So this really hits home. Thank you so much! It was kind of a reality check for me because I thought if someone was a star that they wouldn't do things like be in the army or sleep on someone's couch. I thought they were too pampered and spoiled to do things like that. But it's nice to hear that even after being a star he was down to earth and act like a normal or perhaps even more humble human being. I don't know what your name is, but you sure have a clear distinctive voice. Thank you
