Howard's most famous line as Hochstetter: "BAHHHHH!" His utterance is the perfect epitome of frustrated anger.
@bingbruce48653 жыл бұрын
One of the best acted scenes in Hogan's Heroes is when Major Hochstetter is explaining why he let his prisoners go and even gave them his car in "War takes a Holiday". Howard's expressions are perfectly funny. Major Hochstetter is one of the best written characters in Hogan's Heroes.

I recently started watching episodes of Hogan’s Heroes on MeTv in the evening, a child and too young to recognize the series value or actors when the show was filmed. I appreciate these reviews which shed light on the tremendously talented actors who served as the German contingency (and incredible story of Hogan group member, Robert Clary) and how many were Jewish and even immigrated to the US during those horrific times. Kudos for the reviews and history.

The General asks, "What if he is innocent?" Major replies, "It doesn't matter, he Will be tried, He Will be found guilty and he Will be exacuted." That pretty much sums up the S.S. Mind set.

After he knew who Col. Hogan was, the question changed to "What is this man doing here?!?" Caine was once interviewed about his characterization of Hochstetter, and Caine said he played him as a madman. He asked the interviewer rhetorically, how else would one portray a Gestapo agent in a comedy.

What’s this man doing here! Bah! I can’t imagine anyone else portraying Major Hochstetter like he did. What a character. My favorite episode is when the crew made them think the war was over, and Hogan convinces Hochstetter to let his 3 captured spies use his staff car to leave, and later Hochstetter finds out they’ve been duped by a General, who then asks Hochstetter to get his car. He proceeds, then realizes he already gave his car to the spies, and his reaction when he realizes this is outstanding. How they managed to pull this show off without offending or turning people off is a testament to all involved, the cast (many of whom were victims of the Germans in real life, even concentration camp survivors) and writers especially. Hochstetter and Burkhalter were great additions.
