My Dad passed away some years back and was really big about taking care of his family. Fast forward to now, my mother’s health isn’t the best and I’m her care giver. BECAUSE MY DAD MARRIED MY MOM…there’s literally nothing I have to worry about other than getting my mom to were she needs to be and handling her appointments etc. because of their marriage, my mother still is on his health insurance over 15 years later. Because he married my mother she still receives his social security checks..I literally don’t have financial weight because my Dad put his family first. @netnet6705 He is talking about the legal system. Many women with very little marry men with a lot. The law incentivizes them to divorce. This means it is easy for the woman, if she no longer feels like she wants this man, to divorce him, knowing the law requires that she gets at least 50%of the assets. This is one of the reasons why 70-80%of divorce is filed by the woman.

And the incentive he is referring to is alimony….which is awarded to the broker partner regardless of gender….so these very same incentives go for men as well. Therefore Cooley has no real ground for his point. Women being in the workforce, being educated and successful changed the game with that. It leveled the playing field. Most men are just too busy worrying about the wrong things and operating out of fear.

I'm very confused because nothing he stated made any of his points clear regarding this incentive thing. Makes no sense to me. Basically women now have the ability and freedom to do exactly what men have been able to do since the beginning of time, whereas women generations ago were stuck in an abusive marriage or being cheated on or whatever the case may be because they didn't have the education and finances to leave.
