A single night camp to me always ends up being disappointing. Day trips are better. Or at least two nights; that gives you a chance to unwind a bit.

The lone camping thing is pretty intense. 25 to 30 years ago in my mid-20s I did many solo mountain bike rides, 10 to 20 miles from a paved road and 30 to 40 miles from civilization. I gave myself a couple scares, like when I was joyfully hopping around boulders and nearly stepped on the biggest rattlesnake I've ever seen. The thing wrapped itself around my bicycle and I was throwing rocks at it to get it away. But there is a pure beauty to being alone in natureThat cannot compare to anything

Hiya Thomas.. thanks for sharing an honest look at the life of backpacking.. Sometimes you're on. and sometimes.. not so much. I imagine that's one of the advantages of hiking with your buddies. If you had company, I bet you would have been able to get over the hiking "blues", by working off of friends' good vibes. Here's to better solo adventures :)

This might be my favorite music that I've heard you guys do! Not that any others are bad, but I love the addition of more guitar into the tunes. And of course, the way you use the music to set the tone and help tell the story is spot on!

That hiking in the dark was kind of scary. I wouldn't say I'm afraid of the dark, but now I'm reconsidering it. Love all your videos, guys. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. We can't find places like thay easily here in Brazil, especially after a day at work. I envy you. Take care!

Awesome trip! Loved it...Dude I was camping at Redbarn Camp Grounds off Sugar Creek in western Indiana and I was the ONLY one there other than the property owners (they were about 150 yrds away in a A-frame). And in the middle of the night there was this sound like a log hitting a tree! I fell back asleep with my 40 S&W under my pillow. Definitely unnerving that night!! I told that story to someone not long ago and they said it could of been a Squatch!, lol...

The last time I went camping I couldn't get to the camp ground on time and i was doing nothing but downhill which im not in shape to be doing ANY downhill or uphill and there were some crazy winds that night and it was starting to get cold really fast, so I just looked for a somewhat level area an hunker down for the night, half way through the night I swear I saw two people's shadows just outside my tent, there moon light that night...I guess I was more tired than scared i just turned around and knocked out. Next morning im looking for foot prints and nothing

Hi Thomas, It was a pleasure running into you last weekend at Islip Saddle. My wife and I regularly watch Adventure Archives. You were asking about the race that was taking place. More information can be found at ac100.com. I hope the runners didn't disturb your Baden Powell summit too much. That section you hiked is one of my favorite running/hiking trails in SoCal. Thanks for entertaining us with you videos! --Kevin & Rasien Connelly

Camping alone is really a STATE OF MIND... Of course I am talking about the Fear Factor you can put yourself into if you dwell on being eaten by a bear, cougar, wild squirrels, or you think Big Foot is watching you.... If you are like most solo campers, as I was many years, you are to stupid to be afraid and just enjoy everything around you. The crisp fresh air, good food, clear skies filled with stars is the better than any video game and proper equipment. Life does not get much better than that... unless you are hanging out with a few friends that enjoy the same things...with the same STATE OF MIND.

Next time you chop wood strike the log at a slight angle to cut through the wood fibers. When you hit it straight on you might as well be using a hammer. All your accomplishing is breaking it in half and dulling you ax. Very dangerous also.

As for the fear of the dark! IMHO! It is more the fear of the unknown! Enough about that! IMHO your ax handling left very little to be desired! Ax not sharp? I was waiting for one piece to hit you in the head!!! I'm very glade you left fire wood for whom ever comes next. That was nice! As for not feeling in tip top shape. What was the altitude??? That could be why! No I'm no doctor nor do I play one on the web!!! LOL!!! I just hope you had fun!!! I enjoyed your video!!! When are you going out again? We have some great out doors in OHIO! (Yes Ohio!!) But out west it is breath taking!!! Well as all ways, Thanks for taking US along!!!

I absolutely love the Adventure Archives channel! The quality of the videos you guys produce is outstanding. I first stumbled across your channel back in November 2015, right when the Yosemite video was uploaded. I was searching for a good video of Yosemite's wilderness and camping experience, because I was about to head there for the winter. Before that video, I had already been to Yosemite numerous times, as I do live in California. However, the video you guys made about that park made me love it EVEN more. Since then, you guys have continued to help me experience the full nature of a place though top quality videos. I am an incredibly outdoorsy person, so whenever I miss going outside while I am at home doing homework, I watch your videos help give myself a virtual, but incredibly realistic, experience of the outdoors. Thank you so so much for creating this excellent content, and keep up the good work!
