Those notices near the beginning of your video about the demise/closure of all those venerable US cutleries are really sad, but they are also instructive - it was against exactly that background that Bill Howard left Queen Cutlery and founded Great Eastern Cutlery from nothing in 2006. Everyone said he was barmy. Look at GEC now - that's why I have such admiration for Bill and the folks at GEC, and what their knives represent. Great to see Cooper Cutlery starting up, it's very much to be hoped they make a lasting success of it. Neither ebony or bog oak should crack much, because they are so dense and stable to start with. Sometimes a new ebony knife can arrive looking a bit tired, in which case all it needs is several rub-downs with a few drops of mineral oil and then waxing. Your knife looks to me as though the (minor) cracks are a permanent feature of the seasoning process, and no cause for concern.

GEC is brilliant!! I'm with you. I think Bill Howard is a Cutlery genius. Hopefully, Cooper can grow and be another fantastic company. I was hoping you would watch this mate. Hopefully, I will do that GEC video soon. I'm not knocking Ebony. I agree with you. I think that's open grain, not cracks. But all untreated wood changes with the atmosphere. It might just have been that. Ebony has a lot of species. I'm learning a lot about wood since being into knives😂. It's amazing how many offshoots this hobby has. 👊

Such a great looking knife, and great video as well. I can't say why but I have been loving spear points like this so much lately. I'd love to check oen of Cooper C. knives out as well.

@RandysWSG Dude, I am not worthy. They are a pretty bad ass company. I'm a tiny channel, and them to send this to me is pretty cool. The only other person they send stuff to has been probably their harshest critic- Knife thoughts. Well, I think C. Risner sends them. But they must sign off on it. I've been watching knife thoughts since the beginning. Big fan of his channel. I think it was a one-time thing for me. But it's a cool company to start up in our era. With the demand for GECs being what it is. Needed as well. Hopefully, it will have an impact on all the scalpers... inflating the secondhand market for GECs.

As had a bit of a falling out with people over the Rosecraft thing. I'm sure im still the black sheep 😂. Which I've come to realise I don't mind. I've learnt one thing... "They don't like it up, em" Gus. I felt bad, mate, watching your video. I should have chipped in, mate. I love seeing it when the community comes together over things. You were missed, mate. Don!!! You all good mate? Always good to hear from you! That's them. They have a lot of brands that they brought. The weed and co name actually goes back to 1818-1823. I think it was a hardware company. They have added a twist to it, I think. Their first releases were definitely a baptism of fire. But man, I'm buzzing to have a new Cutlery company in my time. They seem driven and talking to them I think we can expect great things from them. Cheers mate 👊

What you have there I would call a clipped spear point, because of the subtle but evident recurve on the topside of the point.

@drewwhite5601 Mate looking in that old catalogue. I think it's from 1910. The boys knife or that shape was so popular. It needs a better name, though 😂. We have good taste 😂 I need to coat it with something. I might make it a safe queen and put the Renaissance wax on it? 👊

It's a good-looking knife if a bit spendy. The oversize advertising knives remind me of my travels in the USA a few decades back when if memory serves me right flick knives were only legally purchasable in Oregon and Texas and on my drives up and down the West Coast in a town called Salem a knife shop had an Italian switchblade 3 foot or more on a wood plaque behind the counter. Interesting history about migrant workers undercutting wages and the threat of unrest !!! but for political correctness, I shall leave that for now. Thanks for sharing .
